I am planning for a future outfit in PS2 and had some questions about web hosting/web site creation.
First of all, I plan on using Wordpress. Do any of you think this is a good start? If not, do you have any other suggestions?
For hosting, what bandwidth, storage, would be best? I am having problems quantifying what amount I would need. Any help?
Thanks!

Wordpress does the trick for the main website. Just be sure to ALWAYS keep it updated because it tends to be a target for hackers.
Are you looking to host just wordpress or forums and stuff as well?

I would definitely like forums. Are there other alternatives that I could use besides Wordpress? Hackers suck. Ideally, I would like a website that would involve varying levels of interactivity (i.e. outfit member profile pages w/merits, stats, etc.).
Speaking of, here is a damn good example of what kind of stuff I'm looking for!

You need a host and a domain name. I recommend GoDaddy for the domain and PowWeb for the host, that's what I use for all my websites. I'm impressed with both companies' customer service.
Use your website CPanel to install forums. Don't use WordPress, it's a huge security leak. Beyond that, sky's the limit.

I would suggest blue host and host monster for web hosting. go daddy for the domain. I would not recommend using Wordpress as well.

Yea it really is one of the best options but since it's so popular it's a ripe target for h4x0rs. Just like Microsoft..
The hosts these guys mention should do the trick as well.

Wordpress has soo many amazing themes out there. FYI Rockpapershotgun uses wordpress.
Its really a great system-overall. They have soo many plugins its crazy. I say if you want a outfit website that is easy to install/configure go with that.

Excellent information guys. I really appreciate it!
What would a recommended alternative to Wordpress be?
Any opinions on needed storage/bandwidth for an outfit website?

Does Wordpress have the potential to be secure if you keep up on updates, or it a lost cause no matter what you do?

Well it's always a target but you would probably be ok with a lower traffic site. Keeping up with the updates and making sure to get good plugins you should be fine.

You could take a look at Site Build It. They specialize in helping create tons of traffic.
They have a new site builder coming out soon. Will blow Wordpress away. No security issues, no bandwidth issues and if you specialized software needs, you can plug it in.
