View Full Version : Empire Loyalty

I was looking around a few forums and this one,and i've seen some extreme loyalty to ones faction, allmost to the point a extreme patriot has for their nation (U.S,Britain,ETC). I just want to start a thread to see a few peoples reasons for joining their faction, and why their so loyal ( or why they went turncoat in 5 minutes of joining their faction).

I'll try to start,I joined VS because of the cool insigna. After finding a few guys to have an outfit with I stayed in VS till I left not even thinking about joining the others. Why? I honestly got no idea. When I think about it it may be my friends in it,or the days I spent fighting for the VS,but those (in my opinion) dont explain my,and many other peoples, loyalty to their factions. Its a question I ask myself alot, espescially since PS2 is quite near.

So tell me,why did you join, and will you rejoin in PS2?

"Empire needed"

I was always a lone wolf, so loyalty is not my profile.

I liked the VS agiles fishhead helmets. Then I started playing and liked the flying MAXes and Lancer and the fireworks and lightshows of their weapons and the Magrider back when it was the Magmower (still loved it even after it lost the mowing, just not quite as much). Then I played with some cool players and by the time I was done with it all, I didn't have much reason to play any other side.

My fanaticism is much more for show though. I think being a koolaid drinking techno religious nutjob is a lot of fun, but I don't particularly dislike the other empires. Well, I at least don't dislike the TR that much.

Fucking NC, with their noobhammer and overpowered Vanguard instagib bullshit and...

TR were like the Peacekeepers from Farscape, with that whole red and black evil empire thing, plus they both have prowlers!

a friend of mine told me to play PS and create a VS char. thats how i ended up as a vanu
later i made chars on the other empires and hopped over from time to time. its a nice change to fight your buddys sometimes.
so im not really loyal to one empire. the loyalty is a bit silly imho. its a game afterall :D i will always have a weak spot for the vs though

TR from the start. What I liked about it?

I actually read the lore before choosing and read the play style. Being the official government, lots of bullets, and the red and black.

Was a 60 gunner when I was in the military, taught booby traps, so the lots of projectiles interested me.

Black = Sin
Red = Redemption
This meant something personal to me.

Met lots of cool ppl, got TK'd a few times, but most wanted to just have fun. Have been in a few outfits, but mostly go off and do my own thing ( too busy to play regularly now ).

When I tell ppl about planetside, I tell them to join TR or I'll have to shoot them. ;)

All in all, my favorite game!

Ok now picture that guy in purple or yellow and blue. Red and Black makes everything look better.

One empire / server had a lot to do with creating empire loyalty to start, which I think is cool. The people that introduced me to the game were hardcore TR with a hatred of VS mostly that stuck with me a while.

After playing a bit, based just on playstyle I started to hate NC honestly. Every empire will have asshats, it just has felt for a long time NC has had a disproportionate amount. Hard not to feel some loyalty for whatever empire your first BR25/CR5 toon was on but to me has a lot more to do with whichever empire has a group i can have fun with.

OH yeah and Goggles man the fuckin Goggles!

I was never particularly loyal to any empire. I'm loyal to the group I'm playing with at the time, outfits I joined had a tendency to die out, the exception being GotR due to it's recruitment policy.

Friends/Clan > Empire.

I've played all 3 empires throughout my PS1 gaming life. At first I was dedicated to one empire mainly due to being in a good outfit and always having someone online to group up with. But I like playing the other empires since they do play differently and it's nice to get familiar with how the people play with those differences and to get used to them...
Also, I've become somewhat of a solo player after a while and like driving AMS and working the CE...

I started as a TR, and was quite loyal to them because of the people who played it. After some drama on Emerald I switched to VS on Markov and joined FC, which made me totally switch to VS full time. I've considered VS my main empire since then. I never ever liked the NC, I'm not sure why but I just couldn't play a character on NC for more than a week without it boring me (even when friends/outfit mates were playing.)

I do think it's about who you play with not what empire you play that makes the biggest difference. VS never would have stuck with me if it wasn't for joining FC... I'd probably be in some random TR outfit or just quit the game.

Yea joining FC probably made my decision to stay VS, while before hand i was playing with my TWAT(thats right) on TR because i was over balliums aternus and needed a change, their play style did not suit me. luckly i got in greendragon4s pants and its been a joyful experience ever since.

VS because offline training made the Beamer seem like an amazing weapon. You have two fire mods on this bitch! Kill a car with a pistol!!! I was sold.

Ironically, purple is one of my most hated colors, and blue was my favorite. Thank you Past Self for not choosing. Eeughh NC *shudders*.

Cool looking weaponry/vehicles, cool uniforms and empire needed. Also knew a bit of the background lore, but that didn't do much for me.

The extreme-hobo look NC will have in PS2 is sorta pushing me away from them, though.. but WASP is still likely to go NC.

I am still loyal to the point that I'd really dislike going TR or VS, but I am equally meh about how crap I will look compared to the other two.

I'm not the kinda guy who hypes himself with baseless hopes that are supposed to fix the things that I'm concerned about.

While yes, we get vanity/visual stuff to cash shop, that's given. But what will it be is different a question. I tried asking T-Ray if there's a chance to somehow get less worn out gear for NC and I didn't really get any answer except for trying to convince me "well used" gear is all cool :D

I don't want "assembly line" stuff. TR is a good example of a good ratio when it comes to worn out vs. hobo ratio. Then again, it could be the color choices that make it look better. Blue and yellow when worn out is quite obvious. Worn out grey a bit less so :D

There is clearly 4 kind of people in the world.

1. The people who know = VS.
2. The people who think they know = TR
3. The people who would like to know = NC
4 the people who dont give a fuck. All.

Well my story is this, im a techy person, I love SciFi, and belive it or not, my favourite colour is purple. and there you have it. thats why I picked VS. And another thing, ive allways been VS, its to the point that all the other armours send a chill down my spine when I see them. And seeing a VS with red writing above their heads feels very strange.

Fact is I was wondering about this the other day. I was wondering why people like NC over TR or TR over VS and so on. But after reading this thread it seems its just purely luck of the draw.

But I do hate the jumpers. I know its a game and its not real........... But its just the way i am.

You mean gray and red?

Black and Purple, that's where it's at. Just look at our MAX. It's amazing. The TR MAX looks like it needs to get on The Biggest Loser. :groovy:

I really can't blame anyone for going TR though. Black and Red is pretty awesome. I liked the look of the NC more in PS1, but the TR were always my second choice. Now that the TR look great and the NC are the fugliest, I could totally see spending a little extra time flying a Mosquito on a TR alt.

Nah, they'll still be fine as long as FREEDOM! and shiny blue and gold armor and, most importantly, heavy hitting weaponry that appeals to the lowest common denominator of FPS players. :D

Not to lump all NC into that boat. There are some awesome people on all sides. I just can't stand the NC in general.

I do still like the Reaver though. They've got that going for them.

My friend told me to pick NC, so I did.

To me the TR were too dumb to operate their tanks/buggies with two people, and the VS were creepy with their purple and green. Plus hossin was my favorite continent, so it was actually fun to defend a home cont, and nobody attacked solsar all that much.

My only problem was when I got bored in school it was a lot easier to draw the TR and VS emblems than the NC one. I also watched a couple KAAOS vids, and had seen how powerful TRx air cav was, so i switched to terran for a few months. Got bored of them, tried VS, and really didn't like them, so went back to NC, and have been NC for the past few years.

I'm definitely gonna start NC, because I've always loved the reaver, but I might try VS as well, because I like the concept of the scythe a lot (I'm an air cav/sniper/commander type player.) I also don't really like the backstory for the NC.

I'm not much of a gamer, and for a long time I viewed FPS's with especial distaste. But the whole idea of participating an actuall online goddam *war* intrigued me, so I went to the PS site prior to release and perused the forums.

The purple guys and the blue guys talked like stereotypical bloodthirsty teenagers. But the guys in the red and black? They were talking about *tactics.* Turned out the whole militaristic/totalitarian motif attracted a lot of fairly serious personality types, and a fair number of them were veterans of other FPS's. Us newbies sort of followed them around and imitated them, right down to typing in 'Clear' in the chat bar after we'd cleared a room. (Nerdy but true. That's where the TR footzerg comes from. Attacking things on foot has always been our default mode, and so is anything that supports the zerg. Land mines, AMS's -- anything to give you MOAR spawn points and keep the enemy armor off your neck.)

So I threw in my lot with the Terran Republic and never looked back. Never will, either. Loyalty Until Death!

NC Forever.

I used to shred everything with my Enforcer... if my gunner wasn't a friggin mouth breather.

Between that and the Vanguard, I could singlehandedly change the flow of a battle.

But then I ended up certing AMS and never get to leave it anymore... sometimes I wonder what NC would have done if I didn't log in.

Chose VS somewhat randomly during beta. The Lancer became my first love. Then I couldn't help but frolick with mags and threshers... Loved the Pulsar too ! And the Lasher ! Aurora was great too !!! REXO was awesome looking ! etc...

I chose to fight for the New Conglomerate because at the time I believed in their message of freedom. I despised the other empires from the very start with an unquestioning fervor. Yes, ironically I drank the koolaid as an NC.

After quitting for the nth time I returned when we got the free month after the SOE hack and tried to get back in the fight for glorious freedom but didn't have much fun overall. At that point I asked myself, what am I doing here? What am I doing with my life? Am I fighting the good fight?

After some soulsearching I took a leap of faith and flew my Reaver into VS territory. They welcomed me, and I have never been happier.

After seeing what the VS is, what the VS does, now I know I am fighting the good fight. Not just for ourselves, but for those who oppose us as well.
Fear not, people of Auraxis, for we are coming. And we bring you true freedom, purpose and happiness.

We bring you Vanu.

I first saw my friend playing NC in PS's closed beta. I thought it was the bee's knees and went about finding out about it and a way into its beta. A short bit of fan fiction later and I had my CDs and had to pick a side. I remember rotating that little wheel with the 3 logos on it feeling as if this choice held gravitas. However, I had already made up my mind during research. The mentality of not totalitarianism and not anarchy held some sway but I loved that the VS were putting the 'mad' back in 'science'.

Shortly after joining I fell head over heels in love with the lancer. I got invited to a great clan that made high school suck less. Then our outfit leader, the one who had invited me and who I considered my mentor, left us for the NC. That was probably the cornerstone of the monument of hate I built over time for the NC. That monument has been worn at by time but it still stands. A little polish here, a little work with a grinder there, and it will be good as new.

TRx have been helping build a TR version of a similar monument but it's really only half finished. Have too many friends who play TR to really dedicate myself to their destruction. I mean I only setup a single clever trap for them, while I've broken the fabric of reality in my quest against the NC.

Good times.

I'm not loyal to empires. I'm loyal to people. If the people in one empire suck, I find another one where they suck less. I'm not staying strapped to one empire loaded with mean, small, gutless people because of any particular color uniform. A game is too meaningless to do that.

Been checking the NC screenies and videos again as well as been thinking how I have to remake our communitys faction poll cos 1) our forums exploded and we lost it all 2) at the time of voting, there was barely any pictures/video but the NC and some TR infantry.

The hobo clothes are still putting me off from NC even if I love them much. I'm also afraid my community will think the same. At the very least I'd hope they would pick TR, but judging from the last poll I doubt it (NC had like 50% of votes, VS like 35% and TR the rest 15% or so)
