Not sure if I'm thrilled that he worked on the combat feel for the original Planetside, or if that makes me worried. haha

These Dev Chats have been way cooler than I was expecting. oh yeah and <insert obligatory tired ketchup joke>

The Dev chats are coming fast and heavy :)

Glad to see some of the OG Planetside crew are still going strong and working on the sequel.
Can't wait to test out your handy work, Dakka Dakka Dakka!! :D

Since you make the guns fire straight I won't do my usual routine of bad mouthing your faction choice. ;)

:ncsucks: sorry couldn't help myself

It doesn't say specifically that he was in charge of the feel of the weapons in PS1. Besides, PS2 is going for a different feel. I'm sure he's on board with it and knows how to do it right. The fact that he worked on Tribes 2 is more than enough for me.

The only thing that really concerns me is that... They let a goddamn NC anywhere near weapons balance. Now they're going to get velociraptor guns for sure.

All of these interviews are making me wanna go pester Higby or Smedly for a job.

A dev of PS1 is now in charge of what essentially is infantry combat in PS2. That's good news for any PS1 vet who is a bit uneasy with too much change to the FPS side of things.

I love those Devs stories and hearing about their lives and how they entered the industry.

Now one question: are those PS2 extra screenshots in the background ? :D

I see a base in that mountain's flank.

Not just you. :)

Anyway, as this is propably the last one we get (its friday): Did you notice how may of those guys get into this stuff from somewhere completly else? I mean, its like YELLING that if you want to get into the gaming industry, just start as QA and go from there.

T-Ray was looking for concept artists last night on twitter, but I'd even take a QA job in a heartbeat just to get my foot in the door. If the game takes off, and SOE starts hiring, who outside the company would know the game better than the PSU regulars? :D

Thats what im thinking atm. But even if i dont end up at SOE, screw it. There is only one way into the industry, and that by getting you damn foot into the door. Oppurtunitys rarley present themself. ;)

It is getting more and more frustrating that TR seems to be the least beloved faction in the dev team.

OK, I know that a pro game designer is like Lady Justice when it comes to balancing the features of the game - still I'm worried that they may be biased a bit.

So look around in the dev team and find a TR fan (besides Kenneth, the character artist)! :)

Or how about an interview with a female dev? That would be a special treat for us!

Pretty much almost everyone does, unless you know someone. I got in as a CSR, and you'll note that CSR-DanB is now a PS2 developer. About 99% of my developer friends and acquaintances started as either QA or CS. The other one percent were finance/management or, in one case, a rocket scientist for NASA.

Cool hopefully he's giving feedback to keep the weapons varied. Got to say I was skeptical at first, but the tribe's weapons are awesome for skill based gameplay. (Albeit not very team oriented, but that's hard to do). It'll be interesting to see how all the Planetside weapons feel.

// edit, to go into that more. When you have a light unit in tribes ascend the weapons feel light and nimble. When you have a heavy unit the weapons feel bulky and powerful. Their chaingun for instance is awesome. Long charge time then it just lets loose which is how I've always wanted the Planetside chaingun to feel. Especially if it requires heavy armor or something. Get some bullet drop on that with some smoke trails for each round. It would be perfect to see. (Note, I'm VS so it would be cool to be shot at with :P)

Miniguns have no spin up time. You could go Red Alert:YR's route and have the miniguns shoot faster the longer you fire them. (and have them have a spin down time) A little playing with slowing down move speed, reducing CoF, and have tracers spaced out appropriately. That would make it really awesome.

Or take a page from Global Agenda: your primary fire-mode starts shooting immediately, but CoF is worse, damage not great, RoF not so hot. Secondary fire mode there's a delay as it ramps up, but when it does... yeah baby, rock and roll!

The lack of a Proffesional Russian to develop the TR is worrying me too.

I don't want a fake Russian. I want the real thing, tovarisch.

If we had a real russian develop the TR... well, then the MCG would hold user.
