My place of work has 400+ computers.... All with their own IP, if that is how they are using capcha or w/e.

I say it is still within the rules. I mean, anybody for the other games that has a work computer and a home computer is voting on each. If they wanted to make it so only each individual person could vote once per day, they would make you log in to vote much like the MMORPG Hype vote system. So to be extra fair, you should "persuade" the person whose computer it is that their most anticipated game is Planetside 2. You can always make them an offer they can't refuse, if you catch my meaning.

So, it's not botting especially if the different users all anticipate Planetside 2.

Although, I gotta say, 3rd place is impressive for the amount of coverage Planetside 2 has so far. Planetside's key attributes have only been communicated through words - the trailer doesn't tell you much.

These lines worry me about their research department:

The open-world battles are back, and this time can feature up to 2000 simultaneous players duking it out in large-scale PVP maps.
I remember hearing 1000 for a 333v333v333 (+1?). But I like how this will get more people intrigued by the massive scale/epic-ness of PS2.

The game will also feature certain pay-to-play aspects and will include a cash shop to sell things for customization.
I constantly hear F2P, the micro-transactions aren't required to play the game, they're just there for SOE to make money, and more importantly to make players to look good. This sentence is just confusing and might scare people away.

Just my thoughts though! I love the publicity!

Both the actual max player number and the business model are TBA. And the player number can only be known for sure during beta. After all they have to make sure that everything is still smooth if we all just fight at the same area. :)

they should be able to test how many players the server can support reasonably accurite with bots.

With proper coding the server could easily take advantage of a OctaCore with a lot of Ram. But clients are the issue. If the game starts to lag with 2000 players all in the same area, then theres just not much else to do than limiting the player number.
Remember, when the original launched in 2003, Dual Cores didnt exist.

Besides, with bots you cant simulate the crazy stuff players would do, especialy with the AI they seem to have right now (running around and shooting each other, nothing else).

i'm getting rather tired now of even following this game . how about just give us a beta date and confirm its release for 2012 next year , all of a sudden this has gone quiet on PSU and your giving us like one screen shot a mth now . i don't know why people are even getting excited because if this game is going to be released for next yr , why is it not yet confirmed , wheres the trailers of ingame footage , i just think your miss leading people now and i'm not interested in this game untill something solid is confirmed

Now that's just ridiculous. I'm not even a Planetside 2 fan and I'm pretty excited for it. The game needs to be developed and not rushed so it's a fucking mess. You have to understand that not all games are like Call of Duty where all you need is to think of a nice sounding title and some reskins to make a game. Some games take time to develop and make so that they're actually good. So wait a while and be patient.

You do have a point. If we play the old Seasame Street game of "which one of these kids doesn't belong here" then the pre-alpha footage launch trailer is by far the worst looking trailer of the bunch. Considering the pictures we've seen, they can make a better trailer, and they will. I'm just really really looking forward to it.

I've been saying it for a while. Viral video. Targets the PC gamer market, gets them hyped up. As long as it doesn't misrepresent Planetside 2 and give a false impression of what to expect, there is no downside and huge benefits to making a viral trailer.

Of course you can't guarantee that something will go viral, you just have to make a damn good trailer and put it out there. Make a second trailer if the first one isn't as successful as you hoped.

Hopefully that push starts soon, but like Hamma said, it won't and shouldn't happen until after the holiday season. With any luck, we'll start seeing them really start ramping up after that.

The internal demo the other week went really well, so it makes sense that SOE would take the post holiday season as an opportunity to start showing off. I really want to see beta happen before the end of the first quarter.

PS2 VS. GW2 & D3, this shall not end well. Both GW2 and Diablo series are well established games with a large predefined user base, unlike Planetside who only holds on to shoe strings in comparison.

How ever, this should not discourage anyone. Since our community is much smaller then others; it is easy to organize small event's such as this one, in a effort to get more recognition.

Good Question. TotalBiscuit had that same question. too And as for D3... Well they're not even on the map. GW2 is really the one that PS2 and Firefall should focus on.

you are right. absolutely no competition on the horizon for planetside 2.
i don´t even fear that mysterious titan game. after all, soe is the only company that ever dared to try to make a mmofps. they have almost 9 years of experience and they surely gathered playerbehaviour data and stuff.
no other company will be able to launch a REAL mmofps with as many great features as ps2 will have. if they could, they would have done it over the last 8 years, but all announced mmofps ended as vaporware

The only thing I can see that might give Firefall an advantage over PS2 is that the system specs don't look like they will be that bad for Firefall... So more people with older system will be able to play it. Just talking out my ass though... I've been pretty amazed at what Forgelight has produced so far from what they've shown us. Perhaps it is that scalable too...

the other thing firefall might have as an advantage to some players is the open world coop pve, planetside will not have.

yes i know, we don´t need this and we don´t want this! but there are people out there that like grouping up with friends and killing stupid ai things without pvp involved.

but in turn, firefall only has standard fps pvp that cannot compete with ps2 in any way.
those 2 games don´t go for the same target groups.

Firefall looks like a cool game and all, but like others have said, the main difference is that it is more PvE oriented. The Red5 CEO came on our forums here and said that Firefall was designed for open-world PvP which means they will have it eventually. So while I don't see it as a direct competator (like COD v BF), it is the closest thing to Planetside that is being made.

Personally, I'd like to see both games do well just so the mmo industry stops making as many cookie cutter WoW-style games and creates more variety.

Realistically, I don't think we could beat GW2. Its a very successful franchise with a lot of fans, whereas Planetside is kind of a dead franchise SOE is trying to bring back. Beating Firefall should be no problem though :D

You're probably right. Besides, Planetside doesn't have much going for it as far as videos. I mean Firefall and GW2 are both in beta now, so they are closer to release. But more newer people won't get amped up about PS2 until they can actually see what it is.

I can't speak for anyone else, but the first and second weren't very fun. I ended up beating the first one when it came out with cheats. The second one was kind of grindy and lacked a good plot. My friends just changed our gear online and played through it for fun (not sure if you can do it anymore, but there was programs so you could make your own characters with anything you wanted and just play).

Looks like we've been holding steady in the second place slot, at least whenever I've checked it today. That could easily change if we let up though, so keep voting!

Keep voting especially since I haven't seen PS2 crack the number one spot yet. Is Guild Wars miles ahead of us or just inches? Impossible to say, but our best bet is to vote our asses off and take it from them regardless.

Remember to vote once from every internet connection you have access to. I found out today that I could vote twice from my phone, by switching between my 3G connection and my home wifi network, so be sure to hop on any wireless spots you have access to and vote with your phone/laptop/etc.

Every internet connection can vote once a day. Vote every day, vote from every IP you can use. Get everyone you know to do the same if you can.

IMO it should be outright impossible to even be able to fight Firefall in that poll, but we are! We may not win, but the fact that we've been swapping places shows how close we are.

Given, PS has earlier game behind it, while Firefall doesnt, but Firefall is actually on the brink of release and already in beta and much much more hyped than PS2

Firefall fought hard and deserves their placing. Guild Wars 2, well. Yeah. It's Guild Wars. They've got their own rabid fanbase going on. Kudos to them :)

I won't say I didn't want to place higher, but that's not to say 3rd isn't a fine achievement. Bronze medal for the (relative) newcomers? Not too shabby at all.

Let's take it as encouragement to get the vote out twice as hard for the next thing to come along. If we can do this well at this early stage, we're gonna lay waste to the competition once beta hits and once the devs start releasing hardcore imounts of information.
