What do you think the tanks on the left side of the cover (http://www.planetside-universe.com/media/viewer.php?img_id=1674) are?

They are definitely not the new Prowler (http://www.planetside-universe.com/media/viewer.php?img_id=1805), nor are they the original, discarded concept (http://twitter.com/#!/PS_TRay/status/147213746010456066/photo/1/large).

The tank is kind of tall, and could be in a different scale than we might expect (and therefore be generally smaller than it seems). It might be possible that it's the Lightning - short, but tall enough to fit a driver/gunner in relative comfort. Not unlike the German Wiesel light tank (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b9/Ozelot.jpg).

Or it could just be old art that has no relation to anything that will actually appear in-game. :P

DISCUSS. :)

I think it's old concept art of prowler. It has that general shape and feel of a prowler but this one just may have been quickly drawn or is rough draft.

And there goes the speculation. ;)

Looks to me like the old prowler, just less refined..

Could possibly be Artillery..

Def looks like a concept of the Prowler. Planetside 1 had concept images in articles and I think on the box was a Concept Vanu MAX

Yeah. When I first saw it on the cover, I figured it was the Prowler, but it was so simple and unrefined that I also just assumed it wasn't finished yet so they put those in as placeholders.

That's one of the main reasons I assumed that the concept art for the tank inside the magazine was the Lightning, not the Prowler, because it looked so different from the ones on the cover. Obviously we now know that the one inside the magazine was the more accurate of the two.

Given that the MAX suit in the foreground is the old concept TR MAX with the exposed face, I think it's safe to say that's the old Prowler in the background. Or merely a smudgey tank-shaped placeholder.

This community reminds me of Christian Scientists sometimes. *They* sit around and try to find hidden allegorical meanings in obscure Biblical passages. *We* sit around and try and read the dev's hidden agenda in little inconsequential bits and snippets from outdated concept art, or of things only half-seen on the edges of new screen shots. It's fun, but don't make too much of a fetish out of it. All will be revealed in due course.

Theoryside is the only religion I need. Well, theoryside and Vanuism, but I'm pretty sure that Theoryside is just a branch of Vanuism. I'm sure some TR and NC speculators would violently disagree with man on that one though.

Looks like the Prowler to me.

The max is TR, the infantry is TR, the planes appear to be mosquitoes (TR), so I think it's safe to assume it's a TR vehicle. The only TR specific vehicles in PS2 are the mosq and prowler. Conclusion, it's the old concept prowler.

MBT means main battle tank. We were told that these were medium battle tanks.

So the Prowler, Vanguard, and Magrider are medium battle tanks, which are not described with the acronym MBT.

in Planetside terms MBT means Medium Battle Tank. the real life military classification means nothing.

Sure. In your world "Teacher, can I mombo dogface to the banana patch" may be a way of asking to be excused to go to the restroom, too.

But, for everyone else, it doesn't mean that. Except, perhaps, Steve Martin.

Your initial, very "worthy" contribution to the thread ws too sad to justify actually typing, but now I'm abashed enough...

I know what "MBT" means. I knew that a decade before you farted out your initial post. I also know that the devs are using "medium battle tank" to describe the bigger tanks in PS2.

Did you educate anyone? Nope.
Did you contribute anything to the thread? Hell no.
Does the term "main battle tank" even exist in PS2's lore, so that the MBT acronym would be reserved to it, instead of "medium battle tank"? No one knows.
Is "medium battle tank" an official name? Not yet.
Is "MBT" way shorter than "medium battle tank", for the purposes of writing the thread's title? Yup.
Would just "tank" be a fitting name for the tanks we've seen so far? Nope, as we haven't yet seen the Lightning.
Does being an ass help you make friends and live a worthwhile life? I can see that it doesn't. ;)

I wish you all the best in your future interpersonal endeavors, and therefore hope that either you or your parents are rich. :p

You don't have anywhere near the level of omniscience to prove that. Have you contacted every member who has read this forum and gotten sworn testimony that they knew that?

Did you contribute anything to the thread?

Did you? Did me pointing something out that you now claim to have known, but have no proof whatsoever that you did, and claim everybody else knows, and also have no proof that they did, really hurt your feelings that badly?

MBT means Main Battle Tank. That it is a "trigger event" to something like your response is irrelevant. It still means Main Battle Tank, and always will.

MBT has always meant medium battle tank in Planetside. They have been since the beta when they were first introduced.

The people claiming otherwise confuse opinion and fact.

MBT has never been used as an acronym for medium battle tank in anything from Sony. The tanks were referred to as medium battle tanks, after the BFR's came into existence, but I have not found anything that indicates that the acronym MBT has ever been used by Sony for anything. Has Sony ever used MBT as an acronym for a medium battle tank, before the advent of the PS2 media output?

If someone from Sony starts using MBT as meaning medium battle tank, then that would make it relevant now, but would not change the past. Or the real world.

Even if they did use it that way, it is still incorrect. MBT means main battle tank, and always will. Enough people getting together on a forum and chanting "MBT means medium battle tank" doesn't change it. It still means main battle tank.

Just because Sony uses the term "medium battle tank" doesn't mean MBT means MBT any more than if they used the term "manned boat turret" would mean that MBT meant that.

Sure, Planetside has medium battle tanks. This doesn't mean that MBT means medium battle tank. I don't know why it is so important to appear to be right about something about which you are wrong.

MBT may mean medium battle tank to you, but in the sane world, it means main battle tank. MBT could mean Monosyllabic Barbarian Teutonic to you. It could mean Flying Purple Unicorns, in your world.

However, for the sane world, and the real world, MBT means main battle tank.

You didn't look very hard did you?

considering its in the PS1 manual.....

http://planetside.station.sony.com/howto/cc_manual_printview.vm?chapter=8

in planetside MBT = Medium battle tank. should equal main battle tank, i agree, but it does not, deal with it.

its on all the wikis as medium abttle tank
http://wiki.planetsidesyndicate.com/index.php?title=Medium_Battle_Tank

and on every PS2 interveiw tank are refereed to as medium battle tanks.

I have him on ignore, so I don't see what he says.

I looked at the manual. I followed the link. The acronym MBT does not exist.

The term medium battle tank exists. I already said that. The acronym MBT is not used, however. I don't see how that was not clear in my prior post, because I made it abundantly clear.

I will re-post my entire post, and tell me where I claimed that Sony never used the term "medium battle tank."

The acronym MBT means main battle tank. Sony, to my knowledge, has never used that acronym for anything.

Part of the problem with using a condescending tone with someone when you have given no evidence that you are anywhere near their level is that when you are wrong, then it REALLY looks stupid.

Try sticking to the facts, and quit letting emotions cloud your reason. MBT means main battle tank, and always will.

Is this thread sufficiently derailed, yet? Can you guys quit being wrong and just get back to the discussion at hand? I pointed this acronym thing out because it's incorrect. I didn't realize I would cause such a gigantic shriekfest, bereft of facts, or reason.

i reread your post, what you say is right when i bothered to read it properly, i have a tendency to treat everyone of your posts as trash though(can you blame me?), didn't think somebody would be getting caught somuch on the specific of sony never saying "MBT" when they refer to them constantly as medium battletanks, ofcourse its going to be abbreviated and when used in reference planetside it means Medium battle tanks, in the real world it would typically mean "main battle tank" unless your referring to a world war 2 tank, in which case it would mean medium battle tank.

You're wrong Traak. Sorry chum.

Like you, I'm not going to post anything of substance. I'm just going to state my opinion and expect you to accept it as fact.

Unlike you, I won't be vulgar, rude, or insulting.

This is funny. The thread was settled by the OP himself in the 3rd post and yet we still find something to argue about. If they don't have beta soon, I'm worried we'll Battle Royale / Hunger Games / Highlander each other until nobody is left.

There can be only one.

Hamma probably wins that by default, seeing as he runs the site. Or maybe Gryphon since he probably has some secret weapons hidden away in the sites code.
