It's like a prequel, except that it was written first, so it wont suck.

Of course the greedy part of me wants them to start doing stuff from The Silmarillion, but that would be totally different characters for the most part, and would require so much creative license that it would probably be bound to suck.

If they made Silmarillion movies they would have to hand out copies of the book so the audience could refer to the indexes and keep track of who was who. :)
