View Full Version : What in game items would you like from a Collector's Edition?

I'd personally love a glowing Force Blade for the Vanu as a memory back to Planetside before it got patched out. I miss that thing :( I would really like to see some unique armour and vehicle colours too and maybe a unique title.

I... don't know if there WILL be a Collector's Edition, seeing as the game is free to play. However, if there was, (or, perhaps more realistically, there could be an "Elite Status" that you buy for like, a one-time purchase of $30), I would like the following:
1. You earn double XP all the time, forever (this is the same as Global Agenda's elite-status option).
2. Your leveling progresses twice as fast (or perhaps, you always benefit from the "online and active" version of leveling, whether or not you are actually online).
3. You are in a special class of buyers, such that, if you wanted to spend Station Cash on any cosmetic/convenience/booster items, you (and only Elites like you) would be eligible for various discounts and promotions on certain purchases or bundles of purchases.
I would absolutely buy a feature like this, even if it cost the original $50 for the game. However, I'm not sure that Sony will have a feature like this. League of Legends does sell experience boosters, but there is no option for a permanent one (the way Global Agenda has).
No matter what, I am excited about this damn game :D

1. An big artbook. I love the ones Blizzard always have. (http://starcrafthero.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/sc2ce_art_book.jpg)
2. Exclusive ingame content only obtainable via the CE. Such as special skins for your armor, weapons and vehicles. And also exclusive armor designs for every faction.
3. A soundtrack on disc. They could also add a code so you can download the soundrack via iTunes or something else.
4. I suppose they are going the way LZachariah says. So when you buy the CE you get instant ''elite'' status (or what they are going to call it) for double XP etc.
5. 1.000 station cash
6. A Planetside 2 poster.
7. The game itself in a steelbook case
8. A fabric patch of every faction logo.
9. Everything packaged in a box such as this: http://images.pricerunner.com/product/795x562/289919823/Anno-2070-Collector-s-Edition.jpg
I really hope we get an Collectors Edition. Even through the game is going F2P, I don't see a problem getting this on the market. Just do a CE only and no normal edition, for the real PlanetSide fans. SOE could sell the above for around 40 to 50 €/$ i think.

NO xp bonuses, ever. Thats selling power boys.
Not really.
It would be selling power if two players of equal skill, one at lvl 10 and one at lvl 20, always resulted in the higher level player winning.
Planetside 2 is a skill based game, not a level based RPG. It generally has sidegrades instead of upgrades for most things. Selling weapons that are slightly stronger in some areas, but weaker than others, or boosting XP so that players can unlock some of those things quicker, won't disrupt the fact that a skilled player will easily be able to take out an unskilled player, no matter how few toys the skilled player has and how many the unskilled player has.
But some people have their own personal definitions of selling power, so if XP boosts of the kind I described constitutes selling power in your mind, then Planetside 2 will almost undoubtedly be selling power from that point of view.
So an XP boost wouldn't really be off the table as an option for a collectors edition, if it's already a likely cash shop purchase. I'm not sure I'd go for that as part of a collectors edition though.
I'd definitely go for any of the art or behind the scenes type stuff. I love that kind of thing.

VVN.
Levels =/= power, they = versatility.
i think more XP per kill would be a given for subbed players.

Man you are really hung up on this whole glowing knife business aren't you?
If I remember right you said you actually quit the game because they took that away?
To each their own I guess ...

XP boost isn't selling power. It selling to skip grind. Everyone can and will achieve the same stuff without paying a dime, they just have to play more than the one who bought xp boosts.
Pay2win would be buying something that is more powerful than the stuff obtained in-game.

Especially since, once again, the grind will unlock more options, not particularly more power.
Enjoy having those $100 worth of aircraft upgrades shot down by a brand new character with an AA gun.
People just have to stop thinking about MMOFPSs the way they think of MMORPGs. The only things they inherently share are massive persistent environments, and large numbers of players.

So mabye your not buying your "Heavy barreled + M320 + Holographic Hybrid sight equipped MCG" directly out of the store, instead your buying a pass that lets you get it in 12 hours instead of 24.
In my eyes thats selling power.

I'd like +5 Cert Points for the first single character on your account. Only the 'first' character.
This can be a repeatable on all of your 'first' charracter on your account. This means If you have 4 chars, delete all and start from 1 'first' character again.

nope. it´s just selling time! because the nonpaying player can get the same stuff, he just has to play some more than the paying player. and after all, soe has to make money somehow to keep up the game!
you are always comparing 2 players that started at the same time, but you will encounter players in the game that are higher level than you and have not paid a dime yet.
back on topic:
i would like to have a special skin color pattern like mostly secondary color on the armor like high battleranks in ps1 had. to be able to fly a golden reaver ;-)
another thing could be the privilege to send in an own outfit logo or personal decal for approval.
the ce box would generate a lot more money than a moderator for that approval process would cost.
so we could get our own logos without every single player trying to put dicks on their magriders.
selling weapons that freeplayers cannot obtain would be selling power.
a freeplayer that runs into a paying player has no disadvantage in this moment because levels and xp only matter while you are using a terminal, not while you are fighting.

Let me pre-pay for a Collectors Edition before the Closed Beta starts and then allow those with Pre Launch CE's into Beta. Since Sidegrades are going to be such a part of this F2P w/ Store model then give us a sweet faction armor skin and some custom vehicle skins.
Higgles, I would happily give up 100 bucks plus before the first stage of beta in order to have a pre-paid CE copy on release and gain access to beta.
Pre-Launch revenue stream good.
Make wait for Beta bad.

So then the quote I read where the difference between a vet and a noob is ~20% more power/skill boost/damage went out the door?
However, I do see the validity of your point and wouldn't be so against the idea if it wasn't a permanent xp boost. Mabye a 7 day xp boost (akin to planetside's current 7 day "forget certification" grace period). I personally will buy the Collectors edition, provided there is one, and an xp boost would be a huge turnoff for me. I would probably buy it and then just make a new free account, unless they offset it with something really cool...

another nice preorder ce bonus would be a head start!
maybe preorderers could start a new char 2 weeks before the beta ends, and this char will not be subject to the launch whipe.
so the noobs at start may already have some commanders around to follow.
How can there be a CE?? It will be free to download and free to play. No retail copy.

I would like the faction patches and a "Making of Planetside2" type documentary, and maybe a real nice replica of a random faction weapon(tiny, dont want to pay for life-sized mcg) in each box. I agree with reginald on the point against including a permanent xp boost into the box, that is selling power. I wouldn't be opposed to a temoporary one though.
My biggest pet peeve on this can be traced to world of tanks. Several pay tanks were so uber-armored the only thing that could really effectively take them out is hitting them right in their sweet spot or using pay-ammo. That kind of thing really annoys me, i should not have to pay money to kill you just because you're a douche and spent $50(that's right, 50!) bucks on a tank. The Crew has already mentioned they are trying their hardliest to avoid this particular situation though.

Easily. It's only about if they wanna make it. Many F2P games have "retail versions". It can either be a physical box or a virtual copy you pay for. Since the game is free, you just get some special in game items and/or often the games cash shop cash.
I doubt they will make a "CE" with any physical goodies like miniatures or anything, but a virtual copy that costs like 20-30€ and includes that 30€ or more worth of in-game stuff is common in this business.

Alright, none of us even KNOW if it will actually be F2P or not. It's the last thing that we heard. Could someone please give me the quote saying this game is sure to be F2P? Can someone give me the quote of them saying "we will not have a CE?"? For all we know they might change it during beta because they want to replenish their money faster. WHO KNOWS? Not us. Until it's CONFIRMED, all of this arguing is pointless.

It's been confirmed that it's F2P. To damn lazy to dig up the source(s) though.

Once I see a source I'll believe it. I've been following this since July and haven't ever heard "confirmed".
Also, from planetside2.com:
WHAT IS THE BUSINESS MODEL FOR PLANETSIDE 2?
A:We will have more information on this in the months ahead. Sign up to receive our email updates and like us on Facebook to be in the know.
So, it doesn't look like it's confirmed. Like I said, that's the last thing we/I've heard.

It's safe to assume the business model is "Cloudy" at this point. Higby has said that there will be no box (per the GameSpot cancellations last week) but nothing has been "Officially" announced.

RadarX:
The production of Planetside 2 has of course not been cancelled. All these means is there no current distribution provided through Gamestop.
Notice the italics in his post. I didn't see Higby say there wouldn't be a box, could you please direct me to that quote? I'm not on his twitter alot though, I might have missed it.

I think all we really know is that the game is F2P with no specifics mentioned yet(No idea). I'm just gonna stick with "cloudy" and wait. ^-^

I'd definitely pay for one as well.
It'd be cool if they included:
- A journal with tons of lore.
- Scale model of the ES vehicles, specific classes(ex. infiltrator with a knife, light assault with jump jets..etc.)..and such.
- Dvd commentary/behind the scenes
- In-game goodies/currency
Hell..I think I'd buy it no matter what they have in it. :p

I would do the "pre order a fancy CE/whatever kind of box and get beta access". Just about all games do it atm anyways, just put some other fancy crap to go with it so it's not directly selling beta invites :D
But since that probably won't happen, I'm counting on my PS sub to get me there :D

I'd buy the collectors edition too... I don't typically buy them but for PS2 I would!
