To what degree will the air and ground vehicles in PlanetSide 2 be different from those of the original?

they will operate with proper physics, smedly thinks the new flight system will separate the men for the... vanu...i cant remember what exactly he said.

tanks main guns are opperated by the driver
the passenger controls a secondary gun equipped with ai/aa/av
magrider gun faces forward only
aircraft are empire specific, vanu:scythe, tr:skeeter, NC:reava
they modable with aa av and aa weapons

and they further customasable with mods to alder their movment, armour and other attributes.

I think the Reaver and Mosquito won't be 200+km/h flying mechs loaded with cheat-fondling pilots. That will make the game 1000 percent better, for starters.

Then the other vehicles that aren't piloted by cheaters who filter out nine out of every ten damage packets.

Yes, the vehicles will be different, primarily, at least for the first few seconds of gameplay, everyone won't be using cheats.

A lot of the vehicles from the first game will be returning in some form, but not all of them.

Buggies won't be in at the games launch, but may be added later.
The Liberator is not longer a bomber, but a gunship instead. Probably still 3 man, but I'm not sure how well confirmed that is. At least 2 man, probably 3 man.
The HART shuttle is gone. A squad spawning mechanic with a long cooldown timer will be similar, landing players in drop pods.
The AMS is gone. The Galaxy will have some kind of spawn point ability. The Sunderer may have a spawning ability as well, although this has no been confirmed. Few specifics on spawning from any kind of vehicles have been elaborated on.

To elaborate on what skyexile said, all vehicles will have heavy amounts of customization options. There won't be 4 different vehicles that all look nearly the same, but have different guns. Instead, you will customize the original vehicle with different weapons, armor, engines, abilities, etc.

I expected that flying would be harder as they promised, but seeing as Higby can fly mossie with his hands full, it looked lke same system like in ps1.

Ground battles will be totally different. Expect tons of single manned tanks as driver is gunner too. (2 tanks > 1 tank with 2 weapons).
Probably no buggies for release (still hope they make it in), with tanks and lighting filling their place with customization.

Higby could fly the Mossie with his hands full to the wall of the base :D Only guessing, but I guess the major difference (cos they cant really take out VTOL) would be that you wont hover forever in the same place, but the ship keeps dropping unless you keep ascending.

As long as VTOL in place, the mechanisms cant change overly much. And they can't take out VTOL anyways, so..

Oh and the Scythe (VS empire specific fighter) apparently flys a little more like a UFO than a traditional VToL.

I'd almost feel bad for the other empires, but at least they won't have to worry about jumping Starfires anymore.

MMORPG.com: Vehicles played a major role in the original game: BFR's, tanks, aircraft, etc. What sort of new surprises can we look forward to in terms of vehicle combat? In particular, if there's a new dynamic, such as naval battles, or siege units?

Matt Higby: We've been using PhysX to create realistic physics simulations for all our vehicles; this adds an entirely new dimension to the vehicle gameplay. With physics we can make the vehicles a lot more dynamic, you can take a turn too fast on your quad and you may flip, you can do barrel rolls with the empire specific fighters, etc., it's a really cool evolution over the vehicle combat from original PlanetSide.

The galaxy concept art is also different to. No longer are their mounted weapons on the wings and from the looks of it you will not hot drop out of the sides of a galaxy but load in through the back like a real troop transport.
