View Full Version : Game Informer Push

I know that we are a fairly small community comparatively to many other genre's, like Gears of War, Halo, TOR, Nintendo fanboys etc... but I do feel that getting the message of PS2 out to as many media outlets as possible, as regularly as possible is a positive step, especially to one of the most popular gaming magazine's around.
In this light, I feel that Gameinformer.com is one of the major industry guides in terms of informing the gaming public about what's coming up, and what to watch for. Understandably, they are focusing heavily on SWTOR right now, as it has just been released. However, I have repeatedly sent in 'news tips' letting them know that PS2 is now open for beta registration, as well as the fact that the official site has launched, every day, for approximately 2 weeks now. I haven't seen a word mentioned about it since the original trailer was released months ago. I feel that we've learned a lot more since then. It should also be noted that just a few days ago, they mentioned that the beta registration of Dust 514 was open... this type of story is EXACTLY what they look for and report on.
I feel that this is a very quick and easy mobilization for this community. If even 50 people simply send an email or a news tip to gameinformer letting them know that we would appreciate seeing more stories/updates about our MMOFPS of choice, both to inform the general public, and to remain an objective reporter of information. There is no reason to be nasty in these messages, or even to fill GI in on the features of the game, simply having numbers in request will help to prove that there is an audience for this type of news, and that it will improve their readership, especially once more people discover what PS2 is all about!
So, if I can be so bold as to direct this great community machine, I would implore you to take 5 minutes to do this, and at the very least, take this as a opportunity to practice for the moment when we are asked to officially mobilize.

That is the ever so useful News Tip link that you can all use to send in your opinion (Its in the black toolbar 'submit a news tip,' or should you feel more ambitious, a letter to the editor would be doubly effective.). They request that you link your source, so using PSU, as well as the official Planetside 2 site might be useful.

Please feel free to post your participation in the initiative, so we can know how many we have involved. This may need to be a daily thing for a while before progress is made in full.
Thank you for reading this obscenely long block of text.

It was a long post but agree with what your saying : )
Another thought is putting "waiting for Planetside2" in your sig if you post on any other gaming forums or mmo sites. You would be amazed at the amount of free mindshare that generates. If people are familiar with the name they are more likely check it out if they see it in the media.
Hamma can we start a campaign on these? :D

 Sounds good!
I find that quite a few media outlets ignore PlanetSide 2 news. We always try to get the word out here but usually it falls on deaf ears.
Gaming media is similar to the American media like that.

All the more reason why this type of effort is valuable. Even if it's just a one off type of post, that might be enough to spread the news to 500 people, who then spread it to 500 more. Exponential distribution of information is incredibly powerful, especially when the initial contact is so large.

ok, any other major sites we have to spam with this news?
if you are not from the usa, check the biggest gaming sites of your country and inform them as well!
germany seems to be up to date. 4players.de posted about beta signup the day it went up.
but pcgames.de and pcaction.de need some mailspam, too. and the big (and only) tv gameshow "gameone" needs to be involved...
(also alle deutschen bitte pcaction.de , pcgames.de und gameone.de anmailen und auf planetside2 hinweisen)
edit: i mailed pcaction (pcgames.de is runned by the same company) and gameone.de. and the site from the OP of course.

Gamespy.com (which is a very popular site) had an article notifying everyone that Planetside 2 had opened its beta-registration, so the word IS getting out. However, I definitely endorse this thread; get the word out even more!

I do believe editor of PC Gamer (http://www.pcgamer.com/?s=planetside+2) is already heavily eye-locked on PlanetSide 2.

I would LOVE to see this on the front page of all the major game news sites. Can you imagine the type of hype it would generate over and over?
Eye candy!

tht night/day cycle preview really shows, where the engine name came from ;-)
if ps1 looked like this, i might even enjoy playing it alone ;-) just to look at the beautiful sunsets ;-)
matt, please start the beta at daytime with daylightcycle turned off! then wait for a big battle and initialise the sundown while everyone is in midbattle, to behold a whole army stop fighting, staring at the horizon, shouting out aaaaaahs and ooooohs ;-) and do a nice recording of this event ;-)

I'd wait with that.
Planetside is not a successful brand on the gaming market. Sony's reputation is still too low even 3/4 year after the hacking accident. There are way too many AAA titles recently published and AAA games are close to release too.
This is pretty much a 'one-shot' situtation. If Sony is unable or unwilling to step into the light with fantastic trailers/ingame movies, unwilling to start the marketing machine, then mass-mailing major gaming site may even backfire.
Just pretend you run a gamer site. You want to offer content to your readers, but what can you post about Planetside2? A trailer (rather a teaser) that every gamer calls a Halo-spinoff, some turnaround videos that doesn't really have a message just a 'generic sci-fi equipment modelled in Maja or whatever'. Even the sound effects are recycled. They can arrange an interview, but those have rather small effect on alluring new players (would you even care with an interview of a DOTA2 dev? no.).
The small amount of content combined with the pre-beta state of the game + an unsuccessful (although quite accepted by the gaming press when it came out) title is not something you want to waste your efforts on.
In the current state you can only recommend the game to your friends or in a group where you have pretty high standings.
Massmailing magazines is not the best tactic yet. Social networking is the key atm.
We must wait till we have something to "shoot with", some ammo SOE provides us. But this is not the moment to start a campaign yet.

Beautifully said, Trolltaxi; I completely agree with what you're saying here. We should wait: we've got one good chance to hype this game. Apart from that, we're lucky that so many game magazines and websites keep running articles on Planetside 2; let that be enough for now :-)

Just to point out that social networking need not be only about telling all your gaming friends about ps2 - it can also be about getting friendly with your favorite gaming website's editors or staff in their forums or w/e. So when the time comes, they'll hear it from someone they know and not some mass mailing stranger.
Infiltration is key :)

NO, the REK is the key - ehrm, we won't have a key in PS2?
Beta key would be the ultimate key! (I won.) :groovy:
