This is more of a LOL post.
I remember the greatness of PS1, pulling out a rek, and pointlessly lasering each other.... I feel the downfall of PS1, was the removal of this.

We DEMAND THE RETURN OF THIS IMPORTANT CONCEPT.

I guess they dont want people running up to a door and not been able to get through it on account of them been n00bs.

That, and hacking something, took much more time and effort (esspecially if your an Infiltrator) compared to just blowing it up.

Weed out the weak!!!
But I guess for a numbers game in PS2 we need the weak to prey on. Cheers to all the noobs I kill come release! :)

Perhaps I'm missing out on something here. Has there been any word on a system or game mechanic replacing the REK?
I always wondered why the REK was handled as a separate item at all. Why not just give players a hotkey (like they did with the knife) that whips out the REK and uses it on what you're pointing at? (yes, even people :P)

No news on hackers and hacking in general, we are pretty sure its not a discreet class like medic or engineer though.

This game is sounding super lame. There's practically nothing similar to the original. I feel the old timers are not going to be too happy with this game, as it's a joke to even call it a sequel. This in reality needs a new name, distancing it self from the planetside brand.

Too similar to the original and we are sporting 200 people at prime times again :D

This is a joke guys! When the game released you could pointlessly point your rek at anything with a hitbox and have a pointless laser come out.

Don't worry about it. PSU just gets intense sometimes.
Stupid shit like that can be fun though. I loved all of the quirky parts of Planetside that weren't quite right, but didn't actually hurt gameplay or balance.

yeah! another great function on ps1 was spicing up the basecap hack time after enemys have left, by forming congo lines and do a big flashmoplike dance with everybody ;-)
waiting sucked, and stupid things like that helped a lot ;-)

Luckily for us VS, we had built in fireworks in most of our guns. Hours of fun watching the shiny sparkles.

lol. i can imagine the fun with building formations of fireworks ;-)
i never played vs, so i had to have fun with congolines or lazerpointers, or the emotes that once were in, like /cabbagepatch or what it was called ;-)

As it should be.
Doors/panels/etc should be able to be blown up to open the door. This of course would raise an alarm. Hacking wouldn't.

Even though we havne't heard anything specific, I don't think any developer is stupid enough to change that part of the game. They've confirmed there's going to be more objectives to tackle, and I understand that to mean that there'll be more stuff that's hackable too.

I wouldnt be opposed to the idea of placing a boomer to blow open a door. DYNAMIC ENTRY! that would be pretty awesome.
But simply just shooting the lock would be too simple and lame.
Also hacking is still in but jacking is out. I dont know why they dont just allow jacking without changing the colour themes of the tanks, would be an added hazard and challenge for the jackers that they have to deal with the noobs on their own empire.

Wait a minute. No AMS, no ANT, and now no REK?

I don't want jacking, and I'm an EE.
I want to be able to hear, from 2000m or however far or near, the sounds of battle, and know who is fighting whom.
I think it's a great idea. I don't have to guess at whose colors are on the silhouette of that plane bearing down on me, it's skeeter-shaped, it's a skeeter.
I think it's great.
