I have a feeling that we ain't seen nothin yet. If you think about it, the only new thing that SOE has to promote is Planetside 2, (EQ Next is still a ways off) and since they have a whole marketing department...well those people need something to do.

They're using one of the most effective ways to promote a game. It's basically all based on word of mouth, add in some "exciting gameplay footage" get people excited and it spreads like wildfire(I've even told 3 people about this game I'm so convinced). Eventually the population will explode for this game, this is even more true since they're going to be using a f2p model.

Not to mention all these game sites listing it is helping a fair bit, but I doubt it's anywhere near as effective as word to mouth, MAYBE if it gets in the top 3 or 5.

Although, we've probably all seen it (posted on the forums yesterday), it still means that XFX indirectly promoted PS2 to 15000+ people.

Everything from SOE happend after we found it. I guess they didnt think it would happen that fast. After we got our hands on it, the plan was spoiled, and now its running itself.

Vid appeared on PCGAMER, RPS, etc etc etc. Wait for the next view update, im sure it hit the 10k already. :D

I asked because her age determines if PS is actually cool (its producers/players are liked by girls/women) or just another nerd cathedral (garners no particular attention). Coolness can be estimated with the following equation:

Coolness = A x ( (number of regular players x B) / (number of female players x C) )

Where

A = (1/ sqrt(2*pi)) exp(-(30 - average age of C)/2)
B is the overall (men+women) familiarity ratio (if you go to a mall and ask 100 people if they know about PS2, what percent will say 'yes'?).
C is the female familiarity ratio (if you go to a mall and ask 100 women if they know about PS2, what percent will say 'yes'?).

Yeah the view counter is pretty weird... ATM it says 2828 views, when watching another video and the video is under related video's, it says 19412. And when i click on the little statistics icon under the video. The line is at 40k(!)

I dont think its really being promoted at all. Could be 1000% better. Twitter is the biggest way they are getting news out.

What I would want to see is a legit 2 min epic trailer of all gameplay. Then see what people think.

That goes for anything else right now. Battlefield 3 is what everyone knows so it gets attention and every award/accolade that is available. PlanetSide 2 could do the same thing and I guarantee it wouldn't get the ball licking that DICE gets if they so much as fart out a tenth of a screenshot.

Yup, but if we get an awesome 2 minutes gameplay trailer and that the media doesn't "blow it out of proportion", then it's where we (the community) are supposed to get in action and "spam" it pretty much everywhere it counts.

They just need to focus on making a fun game. Even though they're two completely different genres, I will make comparisons to League of Legends. When LoL was released it was only known to mainly the DOTA crowd. But that game has grown. It's accessible, free to play and really easy for you to go to your friends and be like, "Hey come try out this game with me. You'll have fun I promise!" I've seen LoL go from only 5 people playing it in my community to exploding in popularity where you see at least 4-6 teams in vent playing together regularly. It's currently one of the most popular games out there.

Ultimately Planetside 2's greatest marketing will be from the player base. If the game is fun then people will get their friends in on it. Free to play right? I got tons of friends who play Battlefield all the time. All I gotta do is go to them and be like, "Hey come join me in on this" and chances are they'll try it out.

I think this game will catch on. Not a lot of people even knew about the original Planetside when it was around (I know I was oblivious!) and I'm sure once people even hear about the basic concept of this game that's enough to get them interested.

I have never played an FPS (I'm a 47 yr old carebear) and I can't wait to jump in and play. I know I'm going to be slain every 5 minutes (if I last that long) but what a hell of a 5 minutes it will be.

And Danicia, just grab a med-app or an Engineer kit. I know a few people who played the original PS that had a blast even though they couldn't hit the broadside of a SundyBus... :D

On a side note in order for the game to be balanced and be attractive to a wider audience then support roles need to have depth and be rewarding.
