Had this thought earlier today, and started a Reddit thread for those who would like to post their ideas.
Mostly hoping to develop a resources box of things to pull out as tools of persuasion - sort of a gather all the "bullets (links, examples) for the PR gun" type of organizing thread. I unfortunately don't have the know-how or ideas of how to best go about this, so I put it out for public discourse.

If its easier to post here, then feel free to do so.

said it before, will say it again ;-)
the uneducated have to realise that every soldier in planetside 2 is playercontrolled like in tf2, but because there are soooo many players, it looks like an intense singleplayer fps action scene!
they look at videos and think that they have seen better action scenes in other games, but they don´t realise that ps2 is not scripted and all the same every time you play it! it´s all dynamicaly generated by actual players. and that´s the awsomeness!
What strategies as a community can we come up with to best help the devolopers combat the uneducated masses who think that Planetside 2 is a: Halo, BF3, MAG, etc. clone.
All we need is a video with massive combat~

We could record such a video in beta.
And put it out come release. Or earlier if we're allowed to.
EDIT: I think a large part of that video should be the emphasis on viewing this battle not just in 3rd person overhead, but the viewpoint of one of the soldiers on each empire, kind of like what Morto mentioned for his 247 broadcasts. In fact, it'd probably be even better, if you're looking through the view of one soldier, he gets gunned down, and right before he hits the ground, the view switches to one of his squadmates, who looks at the guy falling down, then sights the enemy and guns that guy down. I realize that may sound stereotypical, but I haven't seen too much of that.

@OP: It's in fact a question of how you can describe the game yourself. When I tell about it, I say it's the BF MMO to fps fans (fps in general, not cod kiddies), and to mmo fans I say it's an open world pvp-only shooter without instances, noticing that everyone can meet anyone in this open world. As for fan-made trailers and machinimas - loads of minds with loads of ideas are just waiting to be let loose, all we need is beta and some (massive) coordination. I for one have 30 action scene scripts rolling in my head day and night I can't give up smoking because of that.
