View Full Version : What will you be playing PS2 on?

Seeing that all of us are hoping that PS2 is released this year, what rig will you be playing the game on?

I would also suggest if anyone has any upgrade suggestions for someone else (ex. Someone planning on playing it on a decent pc with a weak card, one c an suggest a decent card that is on a decent price for that person. Or a person that lacks a lot of things, as in Video card, ram and cpu, allow the community to help that person out to prevent him from missing out or spending more money then he should).

I'll most likely be playing it on (unless someone suggests a worth while upgrade for something).

Intel Core i7 975 Extreme Edition
Asus Rampage II Motherboard
6 GB DDR3-2000?
2xGTX 480
27" Series 7 Samsung LED Monitor
Steelseries keyboard
Steelseries World of warcraft mouse or Razor Naga Epic (don't like the feel of the Steelseries mouse, but I'm currently using it because the Naga has an issue when playing Skyrim for some odd reason).

I may want to overclock my CPU (yes I was too lazy to ever do it yet), and get more ram since it feels like a bottleneck, and I remember back in the day of PS, when 1GB of ram was A LOT! and yet it used to get a little jerky when opening doors.
I'm interested if anyone knows any good FPS mice (mouse) both of mine are made more to cater for MMORPG games (with 109312904 buttons on them).

This should be moved to the tech forum.

I'll just be using my 17" laptop. i7-2920XM, 16 GB, 485m

Regarding mice, I like my 5 button Microsoft optical mouse. Probably the best mouse I've ever used.

Regarding decent builds for computers i5-2500k, 8 GB, and one of the newer video cards. I believe the GTX 560ti mentioned earlier is recommended.

Two places:

Desktop -
i7-2600k oc'd to 4.2ghz
gtx 580 oc'd
8gb RAM
47" 3D LED TV 1080p 120hz
5.1 sound setup + Razer Carcharias headset for voice chat.
Custom mechanical KB
Logitech G700 mouse (stomps a mudhole in the crappy Razer mice i had)
Logitech Driving Force GT force feedback wheel/peddles for when im driving

---

Laptop -
AMD Llano A8 (AMD 6620g built in graphics)
8gb 1600mhz RAM
14.1" 1366x768 screen
If im not on the desktop i use teh same wireless mouse on the laptop as above. (using both unifying wireless receiver or wired connections ftw)

---

Btw that laptop only cost me $389 and runs insanely well. I'm super impressed and thats sayin a lot comin from someone with a desktop like that, although im hard pressed to find that exact same setup for any less than $550 now, and most are $600 (hard to find that faster memory and higher end chip at a decent price). Holiday sales ftw i guess!

ASRock A770DE+ AM2/AM2+/AM3
ATI HD 5770 1GB
2GB G.Skill DDR2 800
2 Seagate 250GB HDs

thinking on upgrading to:

AMD Phenom X4 970 BE 3.5GHz
4GB (2x2) G.Skill DDR2 800 but my mobo allows DDR2 1066 with an AM3 cpu so i might go for that instead of DDR2 800.

AMD Phenom II Quad Core 3.2ghz
GeForce GTX 460 2GB memory
8 GB RAM
MSI AMD SATA-6GBs Motherboard

With that I can run Ultra graphics in WoW, Starcraft II, and Old Republic with very little lag. If I turn it down a notch no problems at all.
I'm willing to spend a few hundred on a better Graphics card for PS2

This is a stupid survey. There will always be someone with a better rig, and someone who's player on the PC their parents bought. My understanding is that the PS dev team wants the most PC's available to support the game. That being said, how do you know that your hardware will be the best? All you're doing right now is acting like a douche. MY MOM BOUGHT ME A $700 VIDEO CARD OMG. Tone it down, and wait for the game. For all you know it's optimized for a MacBook.

I waited and saved 10 years before I finally pulled the trigger to build the PS2 Gaming Rig I posted. It replaced an equally old computer and tube. Great fun to build. Wonderful learning experience. Would do it again if I ever cobble the funds again to do another one. I almost cried at the difference. In fact, the monitor quality is so good, I questioned the fact that my backups were transferred successfully as the images from my camera were just so grainy. Turns out my settings on the camera weren't right - yet I never knew this for the past 5 years I've had the camera because my old computer and tube just missed those details. I can see things in pics and stuff I've never seen before, and the speed... wow. 14 second boot up from power button to Google. 4.3 minutes with the old machine.

Its dedicated to music development and PS2 when it comes out. I don't think I will wait that long again before building another.

it´s the first version the "brotkasten" (bread bin)
but i must have the other version that looked almost like the amiga somewhere in the attic as well. but i fear the forgelight engine will have a little trouble with the low resolution ;-)

@ grognard: did you ever use the 128 mode? i had a 128 D and i always switched it back to c64 mode so it was kind of a waste.

figured out that there even are network modules out there for the c64 and you could even use a browser ;)

Last time I bought GPUs was in 2010 so it was time for an upgrade from my ageing 5870 crossfire system. I prefer ATI over Nvidia because the cards run cooler, not as loud, generally use less power and I have never had an ATI card fail on me. However every single Nvidia card I've owned has gone bad....

I just wish ATI had better drivers so I hope SOE pays them extra attention as normally they partner with Nvidia.

Haha. I never got around to it since my old rig was working just fine. Got married, had kids these last 10 years so gaming wasn't high on the list. Have other savings priorities. Now kids are older, I've got some free time, larger paychecks and more savings, and motivation (PS2) to get a new rig. :)

What a difference 10 years makes. As I said, I don't plan to wait that long next time before the next upgrade.

I'll be playing it on an AMD Eyefinity setup with triple screens. Least I hope I will if PS2 supports superwide resolutions. Looks at Hurtz beseechingly.

BF3 is epic in superwide and its has full superwide support. HUD centered on middle screen etc.

My setup by the time Planetside 2 comes out will be this:

AMD Phenom X6 1100 Thuban 3.3-3.7 Turbo Core Black Edition; Possibly overclocked to 5 or 6 depending (Watercooled)
Asus M4A97XTD Evo Mobo
16Gb DDR-3 1600 G.Skill RipJaws
100GB SSD
500G Western Digital Caviar Blue
1TB Storage
x2 Sapphire Radeon 6870 Crossfired (OR 1 Radeon 6870 and 1 Nvidia 560 ti with PhysX hack)
Logitech G500 Mouse, Microsoft Sidewinder x6 Keyboard.
Turtle Beach Earforce headset. (Not sure what version mine is.)

I think that's all the relevant gaming specs of my compy.

I imagine PS2 should run just fine, least I hope it does since I have no intention of upgrading anything.

I haven't even heared about some of the components that you guys post. Whenever it's time to buy a new PC (which I usally delay as long as possible), I'm pretty good informed, but as soon as I have the new machine, I don't give a damn about the new stuff. The last time was 3 years ago so ....

I sure hope the game will run on my PC as I'm not interested in buying a new one any time soon.
