There's a lot of speculation about PS2 out there right now. What I'm asking is that we not try to bring up balance speculation right now. I've been to multiple forums and I've heard things like "OMG THE ART DIRECTOR LIKES VS, SO OP!" or "NO SCREENSHOTS OF TR, THEY MUST SUCK," or "OMG THE PROWLER TURRET IS OFFSET SO UNDERPOWERED!!!!," or "OMFG THE MAGRIDER HAS THE HIGHEST PROFILE OF ANY MBT, SO UNFAIR!!!"

Let's keep all balance opinions to ourselves until we actually try out the game! I know it's silly and unusual, but critiquing a game's balance before it's actually been released seem a little crazy to me.

Let's not judge a weapon based off a name and a picture without seeing it in action. Is that too hard to ask? I know there were balance issues in the first game, but we're talking about a completely new game, an almost completely new team of dev's, and that MMO's are not a new thing anymore (like they were when PS first showed up!)

So no "Dyson" balance discussion based on name alone ?

I have a balance related topic, the new Galaxy looks too front-heavy

Agreed to the extend of actual balancing between units in engagements. Except for this one.

Beamer is OP.

Truth. It is also purple. :(

A lot of inter-vehicle relations and decision making can be evaluated by use of user scenarios though.

The magrider is seriously OP, steady hovering platform, shoots as straight as a very straight thing and heavy armour too. Nerf!

If the devs gave us something more substantial mechanics wise to discuss, we wouldn't have to resort to such atrocious discussions. ;)

Yes I just dont get this post. Speculation about a game not released is always conjecture. Whether you talk about balance, looks, how many continents, how the lattice works, how many factions there will be and about gameplay mechanics.
The only people bringing new information to the table is the developers. Everything else is conjecture or opinion. What's the problem? Noone has a clue until they get their hands on the game. But this is a discussion forum. Where people discuss what is on their mind about the game. They discuss what will be in the game, what looks good, what looks bad, that they want lock down, they dont want flying maxes... whatever.
How does anyone know that a lockdown max in ps2 won't be god like if its not been play tested.
How does anyone know what flying VS maxes will play like if it's not been tested.
They don't. So all they are doing is speculating. So what is the issue? Why should they not be allowed to discuss it? It's a discussion forum. If a post annoys you... don't read it. But don't impose some kind of censorship on what the members of the forum can and can't discuss.

Discussion about hypothetical balance based on the first game, or based on what little information we know about the sequel, is one thing. I think it can be interesting, perhaps even useful if it generates any good ideas or feedback for the devs.

Crying for nerfing something we haven't tried is a whole different matter. I tend to put a reasonable amount of trust in the devs to not be complete retards when it comes to game balance, because otherwise the entire project is fucked and why bother following it? That, and the fact that they have so far proved themselves to be more than competent ;)

That's not to say that the game will be perfectly balanced by the time beta opens up, but that's what beta is for. To get the game as close to perfect as possible before it goes live. I think it's reasonable to assume that the majority of the game will at least be in the close ballpark of balanced by the time beta comes along though.

It may not be the style some players prefer in every area, but I have no doubt that the driver gunned MBT's will not be over running everything else in the game on beta day one.

There will undoubtedly be cries, legitimate and otherwise, for nerfing and buffing stuff once we enter beta, but that's the appropriate time for such calls. Not now.

For now let's try to just discuss the balance issues as they are; hypothetical.
