Good Find!, I dont think we will see a Punisher though due to customization, more likely a customized suppressor.

Doubt it's a suppressor or they have gotten the ammunition dimensions horribly wrong for an SMG (something they got right in original planetside)

Hmm what could that be? Another gun without a buttstock? And either the gun is quite small/short or the ammunition it uses is quite huge ... just compare the magazine with the guns lenght. A shotgun maybe? A Shotgun with underslung grenade launcher ... hmmm .... probably not.

EDIT: did some reading, damn this is some bizzare weapon design.

No I agree, I think this looks fairly bad to be honest, after seeing so many other guns I was pretty surprised when I saw this. My brain wasn't really able to comprehend whats going on with it, its dimensions seem all wrong and its really misshapen.

Yep. Doesn't make any sense to me right now.
Maybe it's a semi-automatic sub-machinegun, hence the short barrel, that fires high calibre rounds normally used for sniper rifles and ... no it makes no sense.

I dunno, to me, that looks pretty damn sweet. I am, however, worried about the trend of "more guns without buttstocks." Apart from that, I think it looks just fine :-) Dunno what the Hell it DOES, but it looks good. I think it MIGHT be a Punisher, to be honest. That's my running guess, so far.
Please add buttstocks to basically all non-pistols.

It's the gauss... with no rails, no texture work and the stock, a SCAR type Moon boot, folded.

Yeah, I can't figure it out either.

it's a grenade launcher with a gun attachment.

OH! you know what? Look at the piece of the gun right before where the stock should be! That's a foldable stock! w00000! The Devs have heard us! That gun is collapsible. Thank God! Ok, now I like it even better :)

Yeah, looks like a folding stock! Perhaps a collapsing submachine gun with a high-capacity clip?

I think it's just great. The Common Pool weapons in Planetside were NO BULLSHIT. The Decimator? Everyone loved (and feared that thing). And the Punisher was the only gun in that game with an assault rifle + grenade launcher combo. I never used it, nor the Sweeper Shotgun, but I am really happy that the Common Pool stuff where not at all like "a step down" from the ES stuff, they were just available to all three. I'm thinking that I will still use only the Pulsar Carbine for my VS Engineer, but I was always really happy with the Common Pool stuff.
Fuck! The BOLT DRIVER? AMIRITE?
I think that Nanite Systems weaponry is gonna kick some ass o.O

This looks to be about half the size of the Gauss, when collapsed.

Whatever it is, it's an smg :) as stated on the weapon
it also has 17mm ammunition? FFS that's a huge round.
and it says x23....
True, it does seem to say "SMG" there. The caliber is indeed fucking huge. 17x23 is god damned huge. Not quite ehm.. pistol caliber anymore that SMGs usually are defined by. Then again, the NC pistol fires a .50 round, so oh well :D But still, 17mm?!?!?!? But then again. x23 would by now means require a magazine that big. Remember that the usual 9mm para is 9x19.
Perhaps it's future magazine tech that would make J. M. Browning jaelous. Not just staggered mag, but it's like quad staggered :D Meaning there woudl be 2 "stacks" in the back and two in the front. Must be lovely for the weapon to try feeding that lol.
Also, the Gauss uses a 5,56 round, yet the magazine is about the same size...
Perhaps we just need to accept that these won't quite go with IRL measures :D But I still have to say that if that tries to be an SMG, it sorta fails in the definition of SMG :D

could be following Battlefields design where they have all the common pool class weapons as all close range weapons.

thats beacause that light grey part slams back and ejects the casing, the ejection port is big enough look at it.

Looks like an older concept of our current Gauss rifle to me.
I don't see the purpose in having a Punisher in game if we can already install a grenade launcher on our weapons. Essentially, we can remake the Punisher, with the Cycler/Gauss/Pulsar as the base design.
Must remember, what worked and/or existed in Planetside 1, we shouldn't always expect to make a return in Planetside 2.
I'm not even convinced the Suppressor or AMP will make a comeback, as I suspect we can trick out our handguns to perform much like PDW's/SMG's. The other extreme would be revolvers.
Glorious revolvers.

If it was a Gauss, why the hell would it be marked as NS (Nanite Systems) meaning it's common pool?
This is no Gauss.
I still bet on the Punisher.

I don't really like it. It seems they're going the Gears of War route where the guns are almost as big as your body. Or, it just might be zoomed in and is small but chunky.

I kind of like it. The design fits with the common pool design philosophy.
And the punisher was a great medium assault gun in PS1.
Maybe the grenade part is semi-auto...

Justify the purpose of the Punisher in PS2. I doubt we can attach a fore-grip or an extra underbarrel attachment.
Second, we know the Prowler concept art is OLD, the model is done and fully textured. That weapon? Probably old and discontinued as well.
Let's put a little thought into this. The Punisher existed in PS1 to be the rifle with the under slung launcher. In PS2, that launcher is a modification for your ESMA. What would be the Punisher's purpose now? To be the piss-weak in all categories gun?
It would really only work as a "jack of all trades" 100% neutral weapon. No strengths, no weaknesses, though that would defeat SOE's intentions of further cementing the empires as separate entities.
Oooh... here's a thought! Cash shop guns are all constructed by Nano-Systems Inc.

The punisher had slower RoF and its CoF increased really fast in PS1. I think there was also more damage degradation over shorter distances.
If you could customize a weapon to be almost anything in its class, I agree that the question of "do we need a Punisher" is valid.
Maybe it will be more specialized about using that grenade launched (e.g. no reload after each grenade from the attachment).
Or maybe it will simply be an attachment by default so you wouldn't need to choose between X, Y, Z or the grenade attachment for your rifle. You'd choose betwee X,Y and Z and get the grenade stuff on your gun anyways.

This runs on the idea that weapon attachments are point based (ex:0/11 points, launcher = 4,) and not hard-point based: under barrel takes fore-grip, grenade launcher, shotgun, flashlight, bi-pod, etc, top takes sights/scopes, side takes laser pointers, dark-light(?) etc.
Unfortunately, we don't have that info.
If we have a Punisher in game, I like to imagine it would be the cash-shop variant weaponry we've been told about. Using a Punisher, they could justifiably manipulate the stats in any way they wanted to sell the weapon they want to sell. It would also streamline the cash shop. They wouldn't need a selection of weaponry for each empire if they wanted to keep cyclers TR only for example.

Unfortunately, this makes me a bit scatter brained as well. I really can't converse on the fly  I'm a fool in real time conversation essentially.

Design reminds me of the MAT-49, albeit a bit chunkier. A tad odd that there is no buttstock on the thing though.

I could see this being a Punisher.
This would be for the people that do not want to put points into being able to attach a grenade launcher to their ES weapon.

The prowler looks horrible. Why would you ever place a cannon anywhere else than on the middle of the tank. Rolling nc for this probably, used to be a tr.

It's costs you 5x to install a nade launcher on your gauss. The Punisher comes with one for free. That's enough reason for there to be a Punisher.
Also, the AMP is the best gun for cloakers in the whole game. It better be coming back.
