So I heard that there will be Urban Combat so how will it work?
I personally would love for the cities to be on the continents instead of a separate theater all together.

It would be cool if they did have a continent they turned into a capital city when they colonised it that we fight over...guess that would not make much sense though, since how could you mine it...but anyway, lets not let logic get in the way of fun.

Seeing as the courtyard of a base is the size of a normal COD map I think that is where they are going with the urban combat rather than having a city.

There is some concept art somewhere of two soldiers sitting on a ruined roof, overlooking a city with a warp gate in the distance. So I don't think the urban combat would just be in a base.
I'd love to see a cont that has a big city in the middle of it, with grasslands around it. Let's say 80% of the map is grassland or whatever, with the the middle 20% being urban. There would be a few bases in the middle of this city with tower blocks and buildings surrounding them. I think it would be awesome to have different types of terrain of one cont.

This. Look at this image which has concept art buildings that were WIP at the time. It looked like they were planning to build out the courtyards and surrounding area as a complex set of buildings. Tons of cover and more "urban" combat. (right click view image to see the large version).

I feel like the lore said there was 75000 people on Auraxis (dont quote me, im drunk). There probably won't be cities, but instead smaller towns/areas that have some buildings for smaller skirmishes...probably for essential resources,
Thats just my speculation.
edit: I should clarify. My definition of skirmish for PS2 is a couple (200ish) hundred people between 3 factions.

For once, the bases are obviously providing proper urban combat now, as they are at least twice the size, and have all kinds of buildings in them.
And then, its quite possible that we will see territory that is in fact a city.

well if they took all Asians that population could be 200k in 200 years :P

I hope there is a proper cityscape in the game, even if its just one, i'd like a large portion of a map to be a city. I feel that could be awesome. There would be some properly brutal infantry fighting with Ground/Air being kept to the main streets with limited movement.

The lore clearly states that auraxis was well after they landed. They had peace and stuff, everything was cool, then slowly stuff started to drop.
Its very likley that they started building a city, and even have some skyscrapers already. Humanity has quite some expirience in colonizing new stellar bodies, heck they even managed to build a themepark on that rock Phobos. Quite possible that Cyssor has a major city these days, surrounded by vast green fields. :)

I'm sure will see some towns out in between the bases. If i remember correctly looking at that map of Indar? there was tons of small looking towns in between the bases. That should help provide the urban combat feel. Also the CY and outside of the bases being populated with buildings will definitely help.
I would also love to see a cont. that is a huge city. Have it walled off with all factions starting outside the city. Have a river that runs into the middle of the city that splits it into 3 sections. Each side getting its own section. That would make for some great combat. Maybe have a huge capital building in the middle overlooking all 3 sections.
Edit: The picture below is what I would like to see. They could add bases throughout the city. You have multiple entrances/Bridges to each side. That way you won't see a prolonged stalemate.
Outside of the city they could add small towns or w/e. Put a huge capital Building IMO in the middle of the city. With a huge beacon on top. Which ever faction holds that building it displays that factions logo above it. It would make for some interesting fights.
Excuse my MS paint skills I kind of put this together in a hurry at work.

I'd certainly like to see some urban environments (not ALL military bases). Would make the game feel a lot more populated even if their aren't civilian NPC's it would feel like there once was.

We have the couryards but I think in the9 gameplay video we saw urban combat taking place away from a CY.
Around 1:51 it looks like they are fighting in a canyon which I speculate is an area that provides certain resources. (I think it's a fucking mine)

I would like to see one continent be a metropolis of sorts. One of the first founded cities may have become large enough to encompass multiple warp gates by now. I imagine the Terran Republic would have built docking stations at each one for the transport of goods from Neo Terra to say, Indar. It's been 200 years since we landed on Auraxis? I think with the technology of the time, Humanity could have easily built a city and repopulated into the millions.
I'd really appreciate if there was a battleground where the CO could say "The enemy is coming into X district via Y offramp" and we'd have know known exactly where that offramp was. The Highway would be hotly disputed because of how easy it is to move armor over it. Tunnels would become deadly choke points. City squares into killing fields. The shopping mall, embassy, and capitol buildings into bases.

That sounds pretty cool. Lets say that a full continent has been turned into a metropolis. Let it be fully neutral but let the different faction's leaders be able to set up a base of operations wherever they want but I doubt they would do that so they will have a sanctuary of sorts on the outskirts of the city but have strategic points strewn out throughout the city. This allows for encirclement and depletion of resources.

I would be drooling if there was a proper city with skyscrapers, industrial precincts and suburbs all surrounded by grassland. Though I dont think this is too likely since building a city is very labour intensive. Put it on the wishlist for expansions.

That picture looks mint, lots of little building but guard towers looks ace nice find looks like lots of room for close combat
I did wonder about this myself concerning Urban combat Wonder from back in the days of Battle field 2 Strike on something or other the map was called Anyway it was as close as Urban as it got before Battle field 3 mind
I wonder can you go inside some of the buildings or are they all closed off

I would imagine all the buildings in the CY would be open. I wouldn't think they would close them off and just have them for looks.

I think he might be replying regarding the idea of a proper urban sprawl.
The way I see it, buildings for the most part would act as terrain, much like mountains and cliff sides would. For the most part, we'd be traversing the streets, alleyways, and rooftops. Only important, capturable structures like bunkers, towers, and bases (let's say, convenience stores/gas stations, corporate buildings/apartment complexes, shopping malls/airports/factories/stadiums respectively) would have interiors to breach and fight through, aside from the occasional tunnel.
This approach to urban combat, while not as immersive as every building having a detailed interior, would allow for a proper city setting without bogging our machines down with all of the interiors of every building in a proper city. I don't know about you, but I can live without the ability to access any and every structure if it means I can have them at all with massive 500+ man battles.
Defiantly would prefer having less detail inside over say a mass clutter of buildings with there own tea set and sofa etc inside them
a few buildings here and there would be great say overlooking a key choke point or something along the lines like that id like something to hide inside anyway from Reavers and the like

I support any terrain put in the game that lends itself to some ground and pound combat action. Some of the world cut scenes and base layouts we have seen look as if we are going to see mobile infantry and vehicles up to the front lines where action will break down into more traditional multi-combat arms.

I saw the picture above DXC of the Base with the huge CY and mossies flying over. I assumed he was talking about the buildings in it. I would not imagine they would have those buildings closed off and not accessible.
If we are talking about a huge urban mega city type continent. Then yes I would not expect them to have every building accessible. I had my cheap MSpaint thrown together map on page 1 on how I would love to see the city done.

Yeah, all those buildings with pretty lights at 0:50 looks pretty urban to me ;p
