An on-line gaming war?

I think PS is kicking out about 7/8 years now. What titles have went longer?

Make that a PVP gaming war.

And WWII Online still looks like a PS1 game and it still feels like a 16v16 game, only with ridiculously huge maps.

I know it's an MMO. You're just lucky to find infantry at all. Game is practically only good as a tank and flight simulator.

Considering there have never really been very many FPSMMO's it's kind of a small field to even compare it against. WWII Online though has been up and running in some kind of iteration just as long if not longer then PS1.

If you had ask about an MMOFPS that would be a different story, but since you saind on-line gaming war, definately WWII Online. They've changed the language they use, they now call it a game, but originally, WWII Online was called a "simulation".

Not sure about a world record (do they record things like that?) but surely PS1 (and PS2 soon) has to be the winner at the most people in the same area at the same time!

Legends Server for Everquest had ~500 people in a zone waiting to stress test a World Event. The most I ever saw on Markov for PS1 was approx 200-250 on screen in a base fight.

But yes, PS1 had a grand scale and supported the populations in zone/in combat we still want to see in a real sandbox MMO.

WWII Online was released on June 6, 2001
EVE Online was released on May 6, 2003
Planetside was released on May 20, 2003

Those are the only three, that deal with full PVP Warfare (In a persistent world), that I can think of right off the bat.

That award goes to EVE Online. I've personally been in one that had 1.6k people in a single battle (Not a stress test, though the server was not happy at all). And heard of at least one that hit 1.8k.

'World of Tanks' doesn't appear in http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/

And by those 91,311 'players' were not playing together. They were playing in separate matches in a 16v16 per match setup. They would have been spread over hundreds of individual servers. Nor is it even a persistent world.

The game is about as much an MMO as Battlefield 3 is.
As in it's not.

Calling BS.

Those 1,600 people I mentioned in EVE were involved in a singular battle, in one system, most of them within sight/weapons range of each other, during a fight that lasted well over 6 hours, for control over a vital choke point that meant life or death for one of the major alliances.

16v16 20 minute matches, which would be reset upon completion, do not compare in any way shape or form.

Actually, I was completely wrong on the biggest fight numbers.

http://massively.joystiq.com/2010/10/30/the-largest-battle-ever-held-in-eve-online-is-going-on-right-now/
Clocks the player count at over 3,110.

Problem with finding footage of mass fleet fights is everyone turns off brackets (Inspace identifiers of where ships are) to reduce client lag (There's so many of them, they drag your computer to a crawl). Meaning you rarely see what's going on. Brackets + Recording software is murder on any normal PC.

This isn't the battle I was refering to, but you can get the idea. So you know, Blue and Purple squares at the beginning are all allied, and are just one side of the fight. Also, that when the fight does kick off (With Brackets off), there are hundreds of smaller ships that you can't see at that zoom level.

Aprox 487 ships were destroyed in this fight.
EVE Online 4 Titan Kills Y-2 + capital fight! - YouTube

Another massive fight is this one http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_related&kll_id=7876156
Clocking in 984 destroyed ships, with at least 1100 players involved.

Smaller fights are fun. Mass Fleet fights are NOT fun. They're for defense and attack over control of space. They work closer to a RTS for the Fleet Commanders.

Holy shit, I remember that battle. The soul crushing lag came from it being in LowSec (Where these battles almost never occur). In NulSec, it wouldn't have been a quarter of that. New Time Dilation should help sort the lag out.

I ended up being Fleet Commander for the NC Sub Capitals fleet. Nobody else, in the 400 man Battleship group would step up after we lost our Primary FC.
Everyone's Security Status was decimated afterwards.

Well I have a new record and I think we could beat it, if it has been done before, Its the most people ever to take part in a single FPS on-line war. And it involves PS2 and some new stuff.
