That might still be the assault rifle / MA equivalent, just with upgrades. It looks similar to what we've seen of the gauss.

The outline of that building in the background is intriguing. Base or tower with the twin landing pads?

I hope that background is just for making the icons harder to read in pictures, and he doesn't actually stare at that all day.

It does seem rather compact for a sniper rifle, but maybe its bullpup or something.

I do believe that is the NC's Infiltrator suit as well, It does seem to match up with the helmet on the concept art board that was posted a week or so ago.

A few interesting points:

A.) Thats probably not the sniper rifle :/ Just the Guass with a Long Range Scope attatchment, You can tell because it isnt NS, its branded NC. Or if it is, are their empire specific sniper rifles?

B.) NC Infil looks SICK

C.) Swamp Continent looks brilliant.

D.) What is that structure in the background?

That looks very much like the gauss rifle with an extended barrel. Seems to me like the rifle in the center of the "What's that gun" pic for the tr week is their sniper.

Wait a sec
A SNIPER RIFLE WITH A DRUM MAG? DOES THAT MEAN IT'S A FULL AUTO SNIPER?

Yes sniper rifles are empire specific, so its probably one. (its stange to make them es, and then make VS one exception from es weapons theme - it will have bullets instead of energy)

Uh guys? Is that a new base type back there? Don't remember seeing a giant U in any of the other ones. Looks like there are coverings on its tips but I don't think they're air pads. Might be a watch tower or one of the smaller buildings that's being put into the game.

I never use photoshop on any of the screenshots I post, they're all straight out of the game client on my desktop with no modification. The only modification is the dynamic range of my camera phone is relatively low so there are a lot of areas in the sky that are blown out and don't show the detail that the game itself would show... I'll post an example of what I mean at some point.

I agree with this; even though he says "the early bird snipes the TR," I think he just means "strikes the TR with a bullet" rather than "uses an actual sniper rifle against him." That looks like a Gauss with a scope on it (and it's a damn pretty configuration). Also, that armor and helmet are the abso-fucking-lutely best looking NC gear I've seen yet. Stunningly awesome looking.

Hell yeah. And I'm VS at heart :D

Image doesn't work, but I'm guessing from the url it's AKG K701s. GREAT HEADPHONES. Probably the best thing under ~$500 IMO.

This is widely thought of as an impressive amp with AKG headphones: http://schiit.com/cart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=0&products_id=3 it's a bit pricy.

Honestly, a FiiO E9 will get you 90% of the way there at 1/5th the price. Amazon.com: FiiO E9 Desktop Headphone Amplifier and Dock for E7 USB DAC: Electronics

A common complaint with the AKGs is they lack solid bass response without good amplification pairing, the FiiO is going to get you a lot more power, but it's a bit more neutral than the Lyr so you won't get as much bass slam with it.

I'd go with the E9. Those are DEFINITELY headphones that would benefit tremendously from amplification. A lot of people flip out about headphone amps, "you shouldn't be listening to loud music through your headphones anyways!" etc... it's not about loudness, a good amp will make your quiet listening improve immensely.

Great suggestions, the E9 looks like the way to go for me. The K701s are a bit light on bass, but they make up for it with their clairity on all other freqs. I recently tried a set of the Dre Beats that everyone seems to rave about and despite the huge amounts of bass, they were some of the worst sounding headphones I had ever heard. Guess marketing and a big name goes a long way. Most of the stuff I listen to doesn't require huge sub bass anyway, and I can always goose the 60hz slider if I need a bit more thump.

Amplification doesn't get enough attention - get the right amp for the job - don't get a 1000W amp if you only listen on headphones ...

it could be that, you know how most games these days like to start snipers with more auto weapons before they give you the real sniper rifle, the infils starting version could be a modified gauss, that has like a 10 round semi auto mag, but only does like 30hp or so per shot.

Yes, Denon does make some very nice headphones.. I can't really comment on their earbuds/IEMs, but many people swear by their higher-end circumaurals. In any case they'll most likely be leaps and bounds above most of the overpriced crap Beats/Bose dishes out.

If you'd like an educated opinion of the specific model you have I strongly suggest heading over to www.headfi.org (http://www.head-fi.org) and do some searches on their forums. Denon's a big brand so I'm sure you'll find some good info there.

In fact, this thread (http://www.head-fi.org/t/478568/multi-iem-review-216-iems-compared-koss-keb70-sunrise-i100-added-1-23-12) might be a good place to start since there are a few models of Denon IEMs reviewed in there.

Amps? Really?

My god, why? The Signal from ya PC is what you get, a AMP isnt magically improving it. Its just changing some Frequencys around a bit, but i can do that with software, better, and still have more audio quality as my wires are shorter = less potential outside crap coming in.

Coreldan
2012-01-29, 11:18 AM
Depends what kinda amp it is, I guess. Some (but I think they are usually referred to as pre-amps or audio interfaces) are actually just like.. external soundcards, so it wouldnt technically be "what you get from PC", cos having a better soundcard do the processing instead of the onboard crap can make a huge difference.

My god, why? The Signal from ya PC is what you get, a AMP isnt magically improving it. Its just changing some Frequencys around a bit, but i can do that with software, better, and still have more audio quality as my wires are shorter = less potential outside crap coming in.

Okay..... Amps 101... First off, everybody uses an amp. Even you. Your amp just happens to be (presumably) built onto the circuitry of whatever sound card you have.

But due to the limitations of size of the card itself, space between card slots, the limited and noisy power produced by the 12V and/or 5V rails of your switching power supply which can be further bottlenecked by the card slot it is plugged into, and cost of individual components (like the capacitors and opamps on your card), the signal reaching your headphones is weak, dirty and somewhat muddled (comparatively speaking).

However, external Amps use their own dedicated power source and have no power, space or cost limitations beyond what the designer wishes. This means that an external amp can be built to greatly increase the cleanliness, stability, and amount of electrical power that is available to the voice coils in your headphones well beyond the capabilities of the tiny opamps and simple circuits found on integrated audio sources like a sound card.

This increase in power leads to greater control, larger dynamic response, and faster transient movement of said coils to provide the listener ( if the amp is well-matched to the rest of the system) with a deeper and more controlled bass, faster attacks (like the snap! of a snare drum), longer and more natural decays (like that from cymbols or a triangle), highs that are less piercing or "peaky" and yet more detailed, a larger soundstage, more precise imaging and location of sound sources, etc.

So no, "the signal from ya PC" is not what you get, since whether it's built onto the sound card or housed in an external casing, it is changed by whatever amp circuitry you happen to be using.

Your's is a tiny circuit using small capacitors and probably cheap opamps, fed by a weak card slot and/or molex connector from a noisy power supply.

Mine is an analog signal fed unchanged via line-out directly to my external amp with its own beefy, clean linear power supply, large capacitors, and multiple opamps per channel in a layout specifically designed for the demands of a pair of headphones.

Which do you think will sound better?
