Will the inertial dampeners glow very brightly at night?
If so, would there be an option to equip special stealth dampeners for more sneaky raids?

I hope so...having real nighttime mechanics, challenges in seeing things and trying to avoid detection, would be quite cool. Turn on the headlights? Use reduced viewing area night vision? Do a nighttime hot drop.
Especially if he day/night cycle is on the order of hourish+ and not really fast.

Looks like I need my flare gun
To be fair I can't wait for nightfight I can sit on a hill and watch free fireworks :) even better if planetside 2 was 3D

One thing is for sure - night time hot drops will be awesome I think. :D

make the dampeners leave a lowly glimming smear through the sky in empire color. and give it a nightmode sidegrade that turns down the glow but maybe makes you go down slower, or faster therefore costing some health or shield at touchdown.

Or to the defenders joy, a disaster. I remember people not being able to hot drop effectively in regular planetside, throw the element of not being able to see shit in there and bam chaos could break out lol.

i guess nighttime doesnt affect the minimap. and a good hotdrop is timed by looking at the minimap, not guessing from the view ;-)

Lol this made me think about WWII night drops, where the ground forces used skytracers and flak while the invading troops made para drops.

In night ops the VS have advantage.
Dark armour - can't see them.
Blinding disco balls of light ..... arrrgh! MY EYESIGHT is ruined.
:p
I hope the dampeners are toggled with a button. So you can wait to the last moment before deploying them. (like a parachute) Too high and you are a target in the sky. Too low and you are a mark on the ground.
That way you could fall invisibly in the night sky. Then just before the ground you turn them on. People at ground level may miss the glow because their views may be obscured by landscape.

They will have difficulty playing with lighting effects if players can create them. Imagine like 30 players shooting flairs off at night with these graphics; that would certainly lock up some people's graphics.

I am thinking that will all their glowing crap....it will be the VS at a disadvantage at night.
How the hell can you possibly miss them?

Add in some skills and you can have an outfit that is specialized in hotdrops, night and day.
Can't take a tower or base, call <insert name> those guys are the best when it comes to combat drops.

yep would be really cool. but the kiddy targetgroup will fall to death too often...
so it should be unlockable and a toggle. autodampener goes off at 50% of the fall as standard. switch it off to land unseen but risk your life doing it if you don´t hit the button just in time.

I also second this idea. Battlefield3 I think nailed it. I like being able to completely free fall and more or less aim at a landing spot (without weapon equiped). However when hotdrop or the equivilant is activated, you're weapon becomes equiped and you prepare for impact.
PS this could be really cool/funny if MAX's could freefall with a combination of charge and knock abunch of elmos out like bowling pins.

Hotdropping into a battle at night sounds incredible.
Speaking of things falling from the sky, does anyone else hope they bring back meteors at some point? Lol even if it's just for jokes every now & then that would be awesome.

no, but apparently it's not realtime. so my mujahideen outfit with scheduled auraxian salaat time is out the window.

Doing Galdrops was probably my favorite thing in the game, the peacefulness or surrounding chaos as you dropped was great, then you hit the ground and start moving to the objective with all your buddies.
Dropping at night time is going to make me pre-

Well personally I think the best possible length they could make a whole in-game day would be 4hours from sunrise to sunset 3 hours from sunset to sunrise.
Perfect :D
If you were to get on at the same time every day starting on a monday it would take one whole week before the cycle repeats itself. So on monday it would be lets say noon when you get on and tuesday it would be 6 am, and every day will be a different area of the day, until monday where it is noon again. I left my calculations elswyr so those are random numbers.

I think we need to see a Screenshot of some hot drops going on at night. ;)
Could you just imagine standing defense on a wall and seeing hot drops going on at a tower way off in the distance with the exploding AA flak bursting in the air.

I believe there was some sidemention in some thread about the daynight cycle being something along the lines of 1h:5h or something close to that.

Hope the night / day cycle isn't too fast, a few hours for each would be nice.
And yes, some night time screenshots would be very welcome, chance to see the lighting on a base or tower and I need a wallpaper for my computer at work :P

I gathered all the nighttime/low light screenies/videos we have for now, pretty much. Well, then theres also the "the9" video that has those few bits of mossie/reaver/something firing missiles in the night, but there are screenies of that too here :D

Honestly I kinda hope its the opposite when It comes to hot drops I hope everything is very visible ... not for the covert stealth but things like keeping a galaxy around to shine search lights on the ground and other such cool "not just fly to a warp gate" stuff =D

Anyone feel like shining a light on the situation? We'd all love to hear what you guys are cooking up if you don't mind :D
Will we be igniting mini-suns as we fall through the nighttime skies?

I would be nice to configure an aircraft for reconnaissance. Marker rockets with illumination and smoke, enhanced radar, etc. It essentially trades speed for armament. Then I can mark the DZ for the squad at night, and then go hunting for enemy spawn points.
