I'm fine with attachments. It should add whole new level of play to the game. You could have different attachments to help with specialty missions or w/e you are doing. Pretty much you can gear around your ops a lot better. So yeah, I'm digging it. Spec op squads will have a field day with attachments being in.

I'm fine with pretty much every attachment on that list excluding Grenade Launchers and Flashlights (ever since the BF3 fiasco).
GLs could be fine if they balance them properly and don't make them incredibly easy to spam and get easy kills with like they are in nearly every game.
Flashlights, so long as they don't blind you like in BF.....I recall and idea in the Idea Vault a while back for a "Darklight flashlight" that you could mount on your gun. It sounded pretty nifty but I doubt it'd be implemented.
Other than that, sights I'm fine with. Extended mags or rapid fire could possibly just be excluded and given you via the skill tree.
I like everything except I have issues with grenade launchers and flashlights as well. I think flashlights could be awesome for night-fights/covert missions/no power....but the blinding aspect just takes away from gameplay. I wouldn't even mind some sort of blacklight flash light, which could be a way of seeing cloakers/explosives.
I really haven't seen grenade launchers used without spamming them. If there is no thumper then I suppose a grenade launcher attachment is sort of inevitable. But I liked the rockets that the punisher could use, they weren't rediculously powerful but if you took your time and lead your targets you could take out snipers/MAX/vehicles/ even BFRS if you loaded extra mags in your truck :D

I thing GLs would be fine if the have a longish reload time. I didn't like the tactical lights in bf3.
I made a thread about this a few months back if you want to check it out:

I'm all for the idea of weapon attachments and customization. I'm just hoping half of the attachments aren't just sights like in most games.

Grenade launchers are fine as long as the grief system remains in place. Thumper worked just fine in PS1. An important part of suppression indoors, and a challenging way to kill outdoors, but spamming just got your weapons locked.

Grenade launchers are only a matter of implementation really. They dont have to be as stupid as in BF3 :P
As for flashlights, I somehow got the image that there wouldnt necessarily be flashlights, but rather flares from different different things (launched by the underslung GL, vehicles, etc) to luminate the field, not necessarily a flashlight.
That said, Higby has played BF3 himself, he probably knows how stupid the tactical light there is :D We also made it very clear on one AGN that we dont want it to be the same :D

I think those basic ideas sound great, and I'm hoping that Planetside 2, having lots of extra leeway for being "Sci Fi" could add many more attachments! Such as:
1. A target-designator wherein you paint or "spot" enemies and put an indicator over their heads.
2. An integral hacking-tool that takes up the slot of your attachment but basically lets your weapon double as a REK.
3. Some kind of weapon-integrated Darklight sensor.
etc.
Me, I know I'd go for a hybrid sight (I never give up my reflex sight, but being able to zoom is sometimes useful), and then who knows! :D

I'm hoping the weapon attachments/upgrades are by location, such that you have a barrel slot, a sight slot, a magazine slot, an underbarrel slot, and something for the 'guts' of the weapon. Different weapons would have different upgrades available. For instance, a sight or underbarrel slot would be silly for the MCG. The battle rifles would be the most customizable.
Barrel
-Silencer - My hope is that shooting pings the minimap, and this would prevent that. Crysis did this, and was pretty cool.
-Muzzle brake - reduced recoil effects
-Heavy barrel - accuracy upgrade
-Cooled barrel - If heat is an issue for any of the weapons.
Underbarrel
-Shotgun - Short range shotty with several rounds
-Standard GL
-20mm airburst GL - Much flatter arc, programmable distance. Less damage.
-Marker - Shoots a little beacon. Puts vehicle/infantry on minimap for everyone for a period of time.
-Combat grip - Increased stability in motion
Sights
-Holo/red dot/etc
-4x scope
-8x-12x scope
-Grenade scope - needed for the 20mm airburst, also useful for the GL to compute trajectory for difficult shots. Needs something shitty about it.
Magazines
-Not much to these, just a range of magazines that vary by capacity and reload speed, where bigger clips take longer to change.
'Guts'/action/plasma accelerator/whatever
- various stat changes. rof/damage/etc.

Would it be too much to ask for a NC cloaker with a gauss rifle having a Suppressor and a red dot? And maybe a heartbeat lol that would be mint it would feel like some sas/navy seal raid

@cutterjohn only thing about the ping of map on firing remember we will hopefully have 100+ people firing thousands of rounds..

I would say NO to Thermal Scopes...there shouldn't be an automatic "I see you behind trees/walls" button

I think that SOE is going to have a ton of fun adding many, MANY upgrades/sidegrades to weapons and vehicles. I am very much looking forward to finding one weapon that I love and specc'ing it out to an amazingly-advanced level.

Just...no. What's next? Planetside 2 being set in the middle eastern area of Auraxis where some vague group of terrorists get a hold of a thermonanite weapon?
