With Artillery not being in the game, i'm assuming the laser pointer won't be coming back.

I feel this is a shame, taking something else out that promotes teamwork between people.

Also there is nothing cooler than sitting on a base cloaked directing flail fire. :P

I'd love to be able to Paint a target, and then have some fast air be able to lock a missile onto said target which homes in. Obviously tanks would need a counter for this, maybe be able to scramble the lock if they react fast enough. Also, the fast air should only be able to hold one or two of these before having to return to base to get more - but they should be large bombs.

What do you all think about this item/general method of gameplay?

I'd love to see it return, my idea for artillery was to require a spotter like this. NO single person spam shooting. Teamwork required

We don't necessarily need a separate vehicle for artillery either, it could be an attachment for tanks. Guided shells

Well, if they want to hit specific targets.

They should be allowed to blind fire into an area just for suppression.

I could only support that with severely limited range. The biggest complaint of the Flail was this "Suppression". Blind suppression is a 50/50 shot at hitting your team mates. It's also not very engaging gameplay, which is why they took bombs out of the Liberator

Quite simply no point of artillery when there's Orbital Strike in my opinion. :P~

Maybe we could help give the recon class more of a job to do. Give that class a laser pointer that lets them mark targets on the platoon's battle map, it could even put the appropriate icon on the map automatically. You could end up with a pretty detailed battlemap showing positions of enemy galaxies, sunderers, or even just dug in troops.

Laser designator should perhaps be required in order to call in an orbital strike. An OS without painting the target should be highly inaccurate so as to be next to useless.

It gives another option for stealth roles or light infantry for anti vehicle, especially if they could hide and co-ordinate with reavers to take out armour on the ground accurately.

Of course, for the defender - you'd probably get a warning tone if you were being 'painted' so you'd know and have a chance to find an alternative to dying.

Specialist kit/goggles could be used to detect the invisible laser signal and hunt down these spec ops players.

The laser designator should be required for the spotting mechanic to work. Especially if it requires switching away from your gun, and maintaining the spotting.

Flails were probably in the top 5 most unfun things in the game.

Kinda disagree. As a MAX I'm not going to be capable (nor willing) to equip a laser pointer when instead I can have some fancy do dad in my suit say "hey squad there's a x in dem der hills!" instantly. Now for targeting or something like that, yes completely. But for basic spotting nuh uh.
