It is kinda bullshit that the devs keep having us put Planetside 2 on ballots for "Most Anticipated Game of 2012" and it's looking more and more like it won't be released this year.

No point in getting upset over an article built on speculation. It's not like PS2 went behind our backs and gave PC Gamer a launch date.

Also, regardless of when they release the game, you shouldn't begrudge them any hype or recognition. The more people who take an interest, the more we'll have to shoot in the face.

one can only hope, but i wouldn't belive that, PC Gamer more likely saying 9+ because they don't know the release date, no point saying next month :rofl:

Hmm, makes me wonder how far along they actually are with the game.

The game looks great, but we really haven't seen a large amount of content. Just one continent in a game that's supposed to have quite a few. Only one empire has really been flushed out and even what we've seen has been limited from them.

I'm not trying to sound ungrateful...I'm just being weary of where this game is actually at.

Yeah that sound's about right. I'm certainly fine with waiting for a refined product; plus launching around the holiday's will be exciting and good for exposure.

I'm going to be soo fucking pissed if Society collapses and we don't get to play Planetside 2.

Yeah, I guess you're right. I'd rather wait for a good finished product than have a half baked turd released by an arbitrary date. It's better to get it right than get it fast.

to do it and polish it right i would think thats a pretty good estimate, the game will need ATLEAST 4 months of beta testing, probably closer to 6.

I agree with that a longer the wait the better the quality,but what doesn't make sense is why the hints at a 2012 release?Beta sign up in 2011,telling us to vote for 2012 most anticipated game etc.That doesn't make sense.Maybe PC gamer is wrong?

I would expect beta in April with release perhaps in July. But it is better to wait and get the core right than rush. Lets face it if its anything like the original we will be playing it for the next 10years unlike some games *coughCODcoughBF3*.

As for where they are dev wise, i think we have seen 2 continents, lots of vehicles, weapons and armour. Bases, towers and even interior shots of the spawns. So they are a decent distance into the development of the game, as i understand it they are in rush mode or what ever it called at the moment which is i suspect for something to do with GDC.

I think over all we just need to chillout a bit as the current levels of communication and info we get from the DEV team hasn't been seen before from a big studio like SOE, so we are maybe expecting the game tomorrow because of this.

we have seen very little of female avatars though, also while we have seen some customisation of appearance we haven't scene alot, as one of their sources of income they ill want to be ontop of that. they also speak alot of how they're implementing stuff, eg: VS maxes and the lightning.

Until SOE tells us a release date then you can take any magazine or online article with a grain of salt.

Although PC Gamer would be the more accurate of the magazines considering they almost have an office at SOE. :lol:

I have good faith in SOE and the Planetside Developers presenting a stable and
deliberated game.
They did it with Planetside in Exlusive Beta and in open Beta - it was very stable
and running very good campared to many Beta thrown out by companies these
days.

And i think the PC Gamer Editors have no clue about the stte of Planetside2 :D
I dare to claim taht most of them don´t even know what Planetside1 was and
don´t know what Planetside2 will be :p

It's okay I'm forming a real life organization to stave off the Apocalypse till we at least have played Planetside 2..... all we need is a name, something like The Democratic Republic of Terrans. I like the ring of that :D

Everything I see suggests that beta is farther out than I hoped.

Each WIP shot
Shots of the same base
No finished inside shots
Comments from Higby that the possibility of such and such feature is not decided on yet
Missing screen shots such as Lightning, maxes, and so on.

There's so much we haven't seen and that needs to be there for beta.

Yea, it was the January issue. so 9+ months is Oct/Nov/Dec, and again its what they think, not what SOE said.

What I mean is, a game like FireFall has been in beta for a few months now, and they are slotted for a Q4 2012 release. Planetside 2 hasn't even started beta yet which means release will likely be Q4 2012 - Q1 2013. But that can be pushed back even further depending on the development time.

Also, when the Community Reps were talking about Fan Faire, I just got the vibe that PS2 won't be released by then.

On the flip side, it seems the team made their Alpha milestone (and won those awesome medals), so if they have beta scheduled for a certain time, those people will work their asses off to make that deadline.

It's just, now that we are in February and still not even seeing a max unit, my hopes for a 2012 release are starting to dwindle.

At what point did a couple of months of beta get turned into a year long affair?

Granted I am a hell of a lot closer to 50 then 20 and my memory getting to be sucky, but I do seem to recall that the games I beta tested...PS, WoW, SWG, EQ2, SWTOR...did not run beta tests for a year.

This is why i thought, but with a July release.

But as people have mentioned, we haven't really seen all that much stuff and alot of decisions are still up in the air. At this point, honestly, i'd say about May beta with a September release.

Maybe we haven't seen it because it isn't finished yet. Or maybe we haven't seen it because they want it to be a surprise.

I am still thinking end of Feb/March beta and a summer release. The game doesn't have to have 100% of its intended content for it to be in beta, it just needs enough for the three empires to be balanced. PS2's beta is just as much about optimizing net code as it is about optimizing content, so I wouldn't be surprised if there is a lot of stuff missing when we log into beta, but the continental limits are at several thousand per empire. They need to test out server load, and all sorts of extremities within Forgelight and the coding team can be working on fixing those issues concurrently with the content design team.

Well I can remember that they posted on the Chinese The9 blog a couple weeks back that the English beta was still planned for Q1 2012. Also Smedly has said in a chinese interview that the beta was planned for Q1 2012. I am still thinking the beta starts in March, and the full release in Q3/Q4 2012.

you also have to remember, Developers are notorious for making time lines that they can't follow through on. not that it's their fault but they simply underestimate the amount of bugs that need to be dealt with.
