Hi all,
there are lotas of big threads kicking about at the min, so I thought I would condense the thoughts of folks here at PSU with a Poll and help the SOE team get a general view of how folks feel, including some new folks at PSU. You can discuss your current thoughts on the game here!
Im happy with the way things are going, but still very sceptical of the things that have been taken away, it could be a bad move, but as SOE dont want to give to much away, its a thin line to be treading on, and we know a load of info will be hidden from us (like the VS and NC Rexo's!!! Come on!!) :groovy:
Hope the hiding is for good reasons! <3 #Planetside2
EDIT* WTF does lotas mean ??? :)

Yea liking the look of it currently, the more i hear about the game the more i think the devs are on the right track(as opossed to SWTOR where the more i herd and played the more i wanted to throw up) there's a few things removed i dont like, and afew things changed or added i dont like, but i think they;re sort of minor and are mostly for the best interest for the game, the only thing I'm actually concerned about is stealth snipers, but were yet to see its proper implementation.

Whats up Morto? I like this idea.
Overall, I have to say I was skeptical with ps2's announcement. I was really happy when I heard but also worried it would be some generic shooter without a heart or soul.
As of right now I'm going into planetside 2 with two general thoughts.
1. Nothing will ever be as nostalgic as planetside or resident evil outbreak was for me. Things are going to be different with this game. Whether it's for good or bad but think of it this way. At least they are even making a second game and without it I fear planetside 1 would most likely die out in the next year or so. either way we wouldn't have anything to play so we have at least the hopes of something new.
2. The people working on this game seem to have a tremendous amount of respect for us (the fanbase) and the source material. The amount of communication that goes on here is incredible and as a fan I really do appreciate it. This being said I have a lot of faith because of this that planetside 2 is going to be an incredible game on it's own merits. I know we have concerns about a few things right now as a community but i think the best we can honestly do before we really criticize anything is.. Play the beta.
Until then I have nothing but hope for this game.

I dream about how awesome this game is in my sleep.

I feel like the Devs are on the right track. There are a few things that have either been removed or added that kind of annoy me/ have me concerned. But I figured I would wait till beta to really voice a opinion on it. Outside of that I really love the look of it and can't wait to start playing.

Hello m8, and im doing well, a little smashed but well! :)
I do have faith in the new game, but I just hope they dont hard code to much, as I would like to be easy to change things if need be. I really think the first game had something** not sure what it was, but i would like the second to have it, and I'm hoping this team can deliver! I must say its looking like they will, I just hope beta is a good one and gives the game the PS1 factor! If it does, then my girlfriend wont be seeing much of me lol!! :D

Haha I'm glad all is well and even you sound right about where I want to be in a few hours time no less!
I understand exactly what you're saying with ps1 having that special *something*. It was just something that grabbed you and hard. Man I still remember my reaction when I heard about the game and picked it up as kid and started to doing gal drops. Oh man so many good memories. I really hope ps2 captures that as epicness, I really do.
I'm with you on the beta man, everyone knows (even the girlfriend) that I'm going to disappear when it comes out lol. So I'm pretty excited like everyone here and I'm hoping it meets expectations and is overall a good representation of things to come.

Seems awesome so far. Lots of changes that I think sound really interesting. The art style for most things is really rad as well. The developers look to be making something great. And the stuff that they're removing they've removed for good reasons I can agree with.

My issues so far :
1) Lack of Indirect Fire
2) Lack of freeform inventory
3) Lack of using enemy weapons scavenged from enemies
4) MBT's being single piloted vehicles
5) Iron Sights
6) Too many RPG elements being thrown into the mix (Buffing/special abilities/'+4 damage!')

Planetside is my all time favorite game.. so naturally I was really excited when I heard about planetside 2. Since then I've been hearing about some of the changes that are being made and I'm becoming somewhat disappointed. :(
Put simply, it seems like they are trying to make the game easier in order to attract more players. This sounds fine on paper. More players, more fodder, more fun.. sure. But in reality, the easier the game is the less a very skilled player can express his/her full potential.

Did I say "easy" or "easier" ? ...
A good example is the class system replacing the cert system. If I understand it correctly, this new class system will prevent players from having different types of weapons in their inventory at the same time. This most likely means your much easier to kill too.

Strongly against OSK sniping and killcams. Kind of disappointed about weapon looting and vehicle hacking. Sad about losing things like entry/exit animations and role-specific vehicles, but I can see why such things were scrapped.
Really stoked about the graphics and art design. Really like the interaction with the community. Liking the sound of the new cert system, the territory capture system, the new flight mechanics. Shit, I'm just stoked that there's finally a Planetside 2!
I just really hope they won't be afraid to make changes during beta if needed. I know some companies tend to treat beta as nothing more than a final bugfixing and balancing step before release. Higby doesn't seem to view it like that, which is good news.

I am impressed with the game engine and some, (not all) aspects of PS2 are good but the ones that don't fill me with enthusiasm are as follows.
1) OSK snipers, Sniping in PS1 was balanced and not OP.... OSK sniping will be considered OP before long, the forum whiners will moan and it will be nerfed as is the case with anything moaned about by forum whores/whiners.
2) Cloaking snipers, together with OSK sniping will be considered OP, refer to above.
3) Liberator no longer a bomber.
4) Unable to loot or use other factions weaponry, (this was an ultra fun and satisfying) aspect of PS1
5) Longer able to hack enemy vehicles, a key omission from the cloaker's playstyle imo.
6) Iron sights?
A few of these changes seem to be a case of fixing what isn't broken but I am waiting to see what the beta brings and what changes result from that. And hopefully the devs can sort the constructive criticism from the whining chaff and make what changes are needed to better the game.

But of course the MAX users are still happy, especially that they now can actually live in their suits. ;)
All the new stuff and changes being brought into Planetside 2 sounds good/bad on paper but no one can judge until we get a taste of the actual gameplay. :(
So SOE, GIVE US BETA DAMN IT!
But like others have stated - some of it just sounds disappointing, especially the changes from PS.
I'm sceptical about this class system and the F2P aspect. Only time will tell though.

I'm excited for the game but that is purely down to how much I liked the original. No footage released for the game has made me excited because it has all been pretty bad and SOE don't know how to make good trailers. The screenshots have been rather hit or miss, there has been lots of great looking stuff but there has also been lots of bad stuff.
I'm going to stay excited for Planetside 2, I try and show it to my friends and they say it looks crap. It's really hard to explain to someone why this game could be so special, that is up to SOE to market it to those people though.
After hearing what the developers want to achieve with Planetside 2 I'm confident that their goals are what the fans want from the sequel. However I'm not confident that SOE can pull it off as they've had so many flops and failures in the past. I'm forgetting about their past with Planetside 2 however and will give them this one last chance. If this game turns out not to be great then forget it, SOE have let me down too many times in the past and I've given them so much of my own hard earned money.
I hope they can do it, the game looks better than I thought it would though it needs improving in so many areas like the horrible generic character models.

Easy how? I don't understand. It'll have less of a learning curve initially if that's what you mean. You don't have this weird cert system and freeform inventory that people won't really use well until they've played a little bit. That's not really "easier" though. I mean, they're adding in headshots this time. That alone will up the skill ceiling vastly. Aircraft are going to have much better done flight mechanics. Land vehicles have directional armor. Every single aspect of the game is having more detail to it, more stuff for people to make use of or have made use of against them in combat. I can't see how the changes to the game will do anything but make it "harder" for new players to compete.
Plus, squad leaders imparting actual benefits to their squadmates? That's pretty big. Classes forcing people to draw something based on benefits and negatives rather than being supersoldiers? The demand for good squad composition and coordination is enhanced by changes like that. So not only is actual, basic gameplay going to be "harder" when FPS gods shoot you in the face repeatedly and you die like a chump in the air to guys who'd been flying planes in BF3 or WW2OL for years make a mess of you, but the opportunity for good squads to excel is even more significant.
Unless you mean being unable to decide whether to bring an extra medkit or an extra box of ammo or something trumps all of those other changes.

The addition of headshots is going to do nothing but piss off more of the lesser skilled playerbase. A lot of the players that used to wipe the floor with people in PS1 are returning. And twitch is twitch meaning that those players will continue to dominate in PS2 just like they do in other FPS games. The addition of headshots and OSK snipers means that the learning curve for PS2 is going to be much steeper than was the case with PS1. Sure there may be much more detail in PS2 than was the case with PS1 but for many the baseline for game enjoyment of this game type is killing others to get shit done only in this case killing people is a natural part of the process of capping bases etc. End result? People will still moan because they will still get their ish handed to them on a daily basis only now with the addition of OSK snipers and headshots it will be much worse for them, as will their forum whining.

TBH I have no idea. All I am doing is speculating on speculation but the devs have mentioned things like bullet drop, headshots etc. Mind you they said headshots = headshots which kinda says one thing but doesn't say something else. Sure you may get shot in the head but it may not necessarily mean instant death, things may get hazy, movements may be slowed etc, we don't know yet. However if its in game some players will figure it out and master it. I really liked the Sniping balance in PS1 and was hoping it would remain the same in PS2.

That's true, but that's a byproduct of allowing the gap between the skilled and lesser-skilled players to lengthen. It's a byproduct of making a game that is entirely PvP "harder". I don't want to speculate on how well it will be received by players in PS1 used to just aiming for centre-mass all the time, but it certainly is evidence against the notion that Planetside 2 is being made "easier" than Planetside 1 as that other guy accused it of being.

Personally, I'd like to see sniping like PS1's, but without that massive reticule bloom every time you move the crosshairs. A reasonable amount of bloom is fine, but coupled with the mouse deadzone at x12 zoom, PS1's was rediculious.
Not 100% sold on OSK's.

Content: 9/10 (Mostly well done, a little disappointed to see the range of vehicles reduced a little and some of their abilities merged though)
Lore: 10/10 (bravo for keeping the NC/VS/TR)
Gameplay Mechanics: 5/10 (Disappointed with the rough direction and some of the decisions on the core fundamentals, but some positives too)
OBVIOUSLY this is based on just what we know so far.

I really hope your right, but I get the feeling that's not what the devs are aiming for. And why would they? making the game easier would attract a lot more people and net them better revenue.
Isn't that the point of the class system after all? Not only for managing your own character, but for identifying enemies on the battlefield. So if you are a max unit and that enemy is in rexo and just killed your friend with a JH, you know hes an easy kill. You might argue that it would actually be harder for the JH rexo dude, but having to wait around for someone else to come around with AV and take out that max isn't really hard. It's just boring.
