Has there been any confirmation of rocket launchers in PS2? Since there is an engineer class, it would make sense for them to be equipped with one. However my thought is that in a large battle where there would be a lot of engineers running around, your vehicle would get destroyed rather quickly... not fun

Yes because giving engineers rocket launchers in Planetside 2 makes perfect sense doesn't it. YES! Perfect sense. YES YES YES!

Do these people even think about what they are typing before they post?

The amount flaming on these forums is fairly disgusting.

You lot really need to grow up.

To the OP, there will be an AV (Anti-Vehicle) specialisation of the Heavy Assult class, that well specialise in taking out hard targets. The Engineer will take more of a supporting role - repairing things, laying town turrets and mines, or an offensive role with explosives, C4 etc.

That is what i'm assuming from the information we've been given at least. I think that most classes will have AV open to them in some form or another, put it probably won't be very potent.

In PS1 there were Rocket Launchers, the NC had a player guided missile and the TR had a lock on one. The VS had a shoulder mounted Ion Cannon that pew pewed at things untill they fell over.

You said it. Especially the first bit.

In the original, almost every player who spent a lot of time playing infantry had anti-vehicular weapons and there was always a lot on the field. Vehicles, for the most part, had lots of health to deal with the sheer amount of rockets/pew pews that could be in the vicinity at any given time.

The vehicles in Planetside aren't as fragile as similar vehicles in other shooters.

The NC have a laser guided rocket launcher in the new game. That is you fire it and it follows a laser similar to the Crysis rocket launcher I'd imagine.

Theres three methods games use for manually guided rockets. Laser guided(Rocket ai steers towards your aim point; HL2), wire guided(moving the launcher turns the rocket;BF2/3, Crysis), and camera guided. We know its not camera guided anymore, but it remains to be seen which of the other two it is.

Be a good question for the twitter q&a, but i'd put money on wire guided.

Engineers having rocket launches does not make much sense, OP.

Most likely they will be restricted to the heavy assault and maxes.

Which is ruining the infantry aspect of BF3...rocket spam...rocket spam...grenade launcher spam...It pisses me off everyone is just firing explosives. Should take 2 rockets to kill someone with a direct hit.

Crysis
Crysis was laser guided. Remember artillery? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izsxMtEcQ7o#t=30s

Hopefully they can do the Battlefield Earth laser guided rocket launcher vs plane:

Awesome scene in the movie.

I'm glad NC will no longer have camera guided rockets. Was so annoying be pelted by that crap when they sat behind their precious cover :|

You realize now they can launch rockets vertically into the air then just mouse over you at the last second and hit you?

I wish it was common pool. I made an idea in the idea thread for a mirv rocket weapon a few months back (http://www.planetside-universe.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37428). I hope this becomes a common pool AV weapon.

Not if you're behind cover.

Not if you're behind cover.

If it works how I think it does, where the missile just follows wherever the crosshair is pointing, you could certainly shoot a missile past the cover, aim at it, and the missile will hit behind the cover you're pointing at.

Thats what the striker did before mossie pilots complained that they couldn't WTFarm all the infantry. Far more balanced than those missile cowards.

Fighting NC is good - wait till they fire shoot sniper rifle Winner!

also in terms of rockets and such I used the rocklet more than the VS lancer now i use the lancer

Also I hope the rocklet makes a return loved that gun

So the blast radius allows for a decent margin of error then. Because it would be very difficult to get a direct hit on a target you can't see.

Not if you're behind cover.

Actually if it works on a laser like Half life we could spank you behind cover. Launcher rocket high above said cover, as it passes said cover quickly move laser onto the cover. Angle of attack will do the rest.

Wasn't one of the first PS2 images a TR in Rexo with a Rocket Launcher with digital camo on the ridge of a hill overlooking a base

Nice roundup Coreldan. I remember the top most being labeled a common pool rocket launcher, the bottom is obviously NC. I hope that means the middle is a Striker, I can't wait to hold one and stroke it softly.

EDIT: Comparing the sizes, it looks like NC is compensating for something ;)

Yeah, the first one does say "Nanite System" on it, indicating common pool.

I hate the NC one, myself. And I'm NC!

1) Too blue
2) Too baby blue
3) Too much "hurpdurp meh scavenge everything". Even replacing the "metal bar shoulder stock and front grip" would help a lot in that. It would still have that rough around the edges look, but at least look a bit better.

Fixed. Battlefield was actually really good before bc2 and bf3. In previous games there was a separate anti tank class that sucked vs infantry.

Anti tank should be only effective vs vehicles. High damage, low explosion radius. That will make sure it isn't spammed

You missed the entire point.

The NC bastards can't hide behind perfect cover, shoot their rockets straight up then cruise them on over to their target, they need to expose themselves if they want to guide their missiles to me.

That never bothered me that they could guide rockets like that. I mean TR had a lock-on one and personally as the VS ours was the best hands down. I can't tell you how many planes I've shot out of the air with my lancer. I've killed like 3 planes with a phoenix that I remember while playing VS. I did not envy their weapon. It left them sitting ducks.

Their new weapon however if it's anything like the one in Crysis I do envy them slightly.

My main experience with the rocklet was aimbot users hitting me with every round of a clip in fast-fire mode while I was running and they were 50 yards away.

I hope I never see it again. It, like the Fury and Enforcer, was an aimbot-users paradise.
