PC Gamer April Issue with Beta Key

More then average new unique hits would you say? From what I remember reading only a minority a sites visitors is actually on the forums.

I think they need to test all the beta key stuff with ps1 subscribers before the pcgamer issue comes out....only get one try with 1st impressions.

Love to see all the passion in this forum for the new game.
I am glued to anything I can find on this game.
I have been a station access sub for about a year and an EQ2 sub since Nov 2004.
got my access in part for this game, and now the more I see of this game the more I know my life will become it.

I went to Fan Faire `11, have a PS1 account from station access and am buying a PC Gamer sub (more because I need stuff to read when not connected to the PC at home and reading on a smartphone kinda blows imo) so i'm pretty much in any way it's sliced.

Just letting you all know some of us new people are essentially the same as you vets. I mean I agree with like all of your arguments as to what will make this game epic. I would absolutely hate to see this game turn into a CoD clone and am looking for the real MMOFPS fusion. I beta tested like half of the expansions in eq2 and know what to expect from the SOE Beta experiences.
Basically What I am getting at is this;

1. from what I hear them talking about in all the videos and chats and this thread, the game is going to need a sizable force to test correctly.
2. every aspect of the game needs to be tested from character building to max lvl stuff.
3. New players are going to be playing this game, more so than vets. now don't take this the wrong way, the vets are essential to this test, but what about the new guy who might not know wth is going on, you don't want new people to log into the game and think wtf is this and quit (since it is F2P there is no initial investment) the "newbe" needs to have a good first impression as well as the vet or the game might crash and burn.
4. The vets are most likely going to delve head first into more advanced features of the game where the new guys might test the basic things more to get a feel for how this game will be. Both are needed imo.

I am a hardcore gamer, when I play a game, thats MY game until it starts to die.
Played EQ2 for like 7-8 years, top end raid guild, 5-6 nights a week required attendance, etc.
guild is dead now, looking for a new home and this place is just what I want. I love the description of how command systems worked in that you are not getting orders from some NPC AI but an actual player, that is just what I am looking for, in my mmorpg exp[eq2]. we all used vent and a similar system but like Raid leader talks with healer dps and tank officers etc to make the plan of attack. ps2 seems to be taking this to a super sized scale and I can't wait.

What I am trying to say is it is all about perspective. You got your tried and true vets in the test but than you also need some fresh blood in there.
As a 'New guy' I would probably not grasp every aspect of this game right out of the box, but I will assure you if I am hooked on this game that I will be playing it for a very long time and become a vet.

Really all everyone wants is the game to be successful and fun. the community will need to grow significantly in order to be fun and successful.
I just hope I am not thrown to the wolves because I did not play the last version of the game.

I do not mean to offend people with this long rant-y post lol.
I give my respect to those that built this community (web site and the ps1 game community in general) Without the die hard vets out there, this might not have been a thought in SOE's mind, but remember without new blood there is no game.

2 peices of art I noticed in the cover page: Top Reaver is carrying air to air missiles that looks like aim 9 sidewinders...cool. Bottom Reaver is carrying none which tells me the wings are probably active and they are going to actually shoot there missiles...cool. The soldier using his jump pack has blood on his helmet? Are we going to have blood in PlanetSide 2? IF so Awesome, I hope they do kibblez n bitz gore. Be cool to be the first bloody MMO.

the news is the best news we got since the announcement of ps2 and that´s how we react? poor.
after all, beta keys in a magazine mean beta is very very close ahead!
we got the promise that "veterans will be among the first into beta" and we got confirmation that soe sticks to this promise! so what´s the problem?
all the issues about veterans not being cared for... wait until beta starts. we got absolute zero information on how soe plans to give us some merit and we got zero information how they will determine who counts as veteran. so there is no point in bitching around now.
things like that can and will be discussed during beta, when the devs don´t have to be too careful about their communication of secrets.

i guess we have been hyped for too long and our brains are dried out by now ;-)

the consequences of having ps2 covered in a major gaming magazine are great! when ps1 came out, the only ad i saw was on the swg website. that ad got me into the game, but it was just a small banner on another soe website. now a pc gamer cover is a whole different story. and this seems to be only the beginning!
you know, now that ps2 is a potential coverstory, all the other magazines will notice and will want to write about it as well!
i´m so sad that ps1 was so ahead of its time. it could have evolved to ps2 seamless and in glory if the hardware and internet would have been better these days. this time the name planetside will forever be connected with the word "epic"

I doubt us from Europe will get a beta key because of the region split. the keys from Pc gamer will probably work but if they move our accounts over to this new company then you will lose beta access.

Just picked up the magazine at an airport right before I boarded! I was already running late and almost missed my flight but it was well worth it! A great article in there for sure. Nothing breathtakingly new but it has some new tid bits there for sure.

The biggest thing i saw was it briefly mentioning different missile locking systems in the game. It then lists, heat seeking, laser guided, and camera guided! Pretty sweet.

The article was definatly written to get people interested in the game and gives a great perspective on what sets it apart from the competition. There is no way you can read that and say " oh well that's just another HALO, MW3, Battlefeild, ect ect. the guy next to me on the plane noticed I was reading PC gamer and never heard of Planetside so I let him read the article and after he was done he said something along the lines of " that sounds incredible! I'll have to get a magazine so I am in the beta."

Well it let me redeem one of the codes on my secondary pside account so i assume they work fine. This said just having a code does not give early access as the first bunch of peeps are likely to be picked due to geographic location for the first playtests. All my opinion of course.
