There is a jar filled with beer caps. It was sorta close to the beta mark on the jar last we saw. Hamma got to put one in himself.
I guess you could ask on twitter to get a updated picture of it.

So the question is, how polished are they going to require before they open the beta? Are they going for the blizzard style you get beta for polish only and all systems are in place? or will they go with the here's what we have method, lets keep building and using the beta information to improve or ignore as needed?
I think that they need the mission system, VOIP and area influence for things, per TBs video last week, the underslung animation for the TR chaingun.... I'm guessing at the very least another full work week + crunchtime -people at e3, but more likely another month.
Damn my analytical mind, now I'm depressed.

Each cap could easily represent the completion of a step/feature. Again I never looked into. I really just saw the picture and I have seen things similarly done for projects.

Dont know how to be more specific than that. Its unconfirmed, the page hasn't commented on it, but it has on others around that comment. I'll quote the post
" I understand that some people are getting their beta keys and I want to say thank you all the hard working employees at SOE for listening to us players. As for myself I expect to be the last one to get into the beta event since bad luck always follows me in PC games. But thank God I have great friends online to make my play time a little better. True true. E3's promising for beta though. I'd guess during E3, the announcement of beta so they get more people to know about their game. Then, a few days to a week after it starts up.
It has to be announced at E3 the Bottle cap water cooler is just about at the beta level......... + Hig's hair is out of control and needs to be cut soon!

Yes. Also, you can't go to E3 as a developer of a game with your hair looking terrible. Have to look presentable. ;)

I had a question about veteran PS1 players getting priority access to PS2 Beta. I used to be a PS1 player a long time ago when the game first came out. Am I supposed to receive a special beta key? How does the SOE team know that I was a player, should it say so on my account somewhere?

Everyone who has ever been subscribed to Planetside will get a ''special beta key'' (or priority beta key as they call it) As far as I know it doesn't matter if you subscribed from the beginning, or just a month ago. Just make sure you were once subscribed, and you signed up for the beta with the account you had an Planetside subscription on. I don't know if the reserves count.

Yeah I am thinking that they are going to announce the beta date at E3. And that the beta starts a few weeks after E3.

They're updating artwork, and that generally means they're getting ready for something, seeing as they need to put a good image out for the new people coming in. In my experiences, beta follows closely after an artwork update.

It makes sense that they have waited until after E3 for beta. If people were able to test the game currently, there wouldn't be as much incentive for people to fly down there just to get on one of the rigs they've set up specifically for it.
Hopefully though, the public testing at E3 will be indicative of the state of the game being ready for testing, if only closed to start with. Though that might not necessarily be true considering they will be limited to only one objective in one area of the map. No progression either I imagine.

Well, The thing is they block off the continent to force people into a specific few zones to show them the scale that's available. So they get hyped about the intense action the game has to offer, and sign up for CBT, like the FB page and get things revved up even more. Makes sense, right?

Remember that E3 is not a public event, only industry. So you're either there as a game developer/publisher/VIP, or as a game journalist. Being able to control the environment in which journalists can play the game is crucial. If something weird of glitchy happens, someone from SOE is there to point it out and give reassurance. It also, as you said, entices/forces journalists to visit the SOE booth if they want to experience the game.

If you can't access your old station account, contact SOE customer support so they can help you sort it out. If you've forgotten your password, changed email addresses AND can't remember your username, I'm sure they can help you somehow.
Of course, if you're a complete amnesiac, you're screwed. But then, you'd have forgotten Planetside at this point anyway so it wouldn't be any different to starting fresh, except you might be at the back of the queue.

Aye, they do have a live server running, but its not really beta beta, only SOE employees are testing PS2. No one else, far as I know. And there not really calling it beta. It's alpha until they announce its beta.

Blizzard might have miss used the word "soon" but they don't constantly push things back. Yes its nice to know that the game is coming along nicely, but i think all the released video's and info are a bit pre-mature considering how much they still have to do. I wouldn't be surprised if it was another 2 months until Beta came out... Just say'n... enough with the soon and just spit it out that you have a long way to go.

That tweet is in response to some noob article claiming planetside2 has entered beta. He is effectively saying that his hair is still long thus beta has not started and the article is not true.

Beta announcement would be nice to see. Considering they are letting the press, and those lucky to get into E3, the ability to get their claws on the game is a very good sign. So we very possibly may. Not to mention ive seen many devs give "first access" beta keys to those at expos like E3. It just feels right.

Either they are outright lying because Total Biscuit did play it and he is outside the company, thus making us all wonder what else they are lying about, who else has played it? Looking at my graph* it's clear to everyone that the explosions of interest in the game had to originate away from the base of the company, and yet we are told to believe that nobody else has had access to it? Ask questions people! Don't believe everything you hear, the truth is out there!

Actually, since I'm a freak I have checked this frequently over time. In the last few weeks, it has said "forums are under maintenance," like when they normally take the forums down. If you enter some other random thing like "eq3," it gives you the plain text error

However, like I said you got the standard maintenance error for PS2. I even checked this yesterday. I wake up this morning early, and find the PS2 forums in all their glory.

I dont believe any keys are more priority than others. I got a PC Gamer US Key and my PS2 subscription is listed as "active" so Im in. Also everyone will feel cheated who BOUGHT priority acces and doesnt get in in the first wave. Thats a shitstorm nobody wants. So I guess all the keys handed out right now are all priority access beta keys. The vets wont get "keys with even more priority" because thats not really possible, so I guess most vets will just get their keys with the first wave... if SOE lives up to their promises.
Bottom line: If you get a key you are in, if you dont, you wait. Just like in every other beta that happened in the history of mankind.

they havent, they have been giving out free first-come-first-serve beta keys all day on FB every hour for a few hours. Next batch of 10 is in 20 minutes. Ive been a vet since '02 and even signed up for the beta. And now they are handing out free beta keys to who ever before those who have been on the list for months, and veterans. Pisses me right the fuck off

Its just that those of us who used PCgamer keys got to enter them so we show as active, while the veterans haven't had their keys mailed to them yet.
I'm sure we'll all be on equal footing when that mail goes out to the PS1 vets and they get keys.

As per reliable sources, facebook/twitter are equal to PCGamer/vet status.
Prior to finding out that it wouldn't ensure getting in quicker, I did a bit of groveling myself. But there is no point for people who have a PCGamer key or are prior Planetside subscribers.

I'll be more likely to spread negative word of mouth about how I don't like SOE as much, but I'll probably spend money.

Although I'm a "PS1 vet", (wouldn't call myself a vet, I only played for a couple of months) I'm still not sure I have prio-access. The old Station-account that I used at the time was owned by my older brother as I inherited it since he wasn't interested in PS1 at the time. (Didn't really make sense to buy a new game + sub)
However, I did active PS1 on my personal account during the "Here's 45 free days" after that hacking situation. Though, I'm not entirely sure that counts.
If not, I'll just sit back and hoping to get in via the hard way. Afterall, I signed up the same day it was available for signup.

It would be good to get a clarification on this - I can only presume "Priority" keys are for the closed beta before it's opened to the world.
I would note though, that having spent over $1000 on Planetside in 9 years that I would expect to be priority over someone who just bought PCGamer for <$10.
That's maybe feedback RadarX could take to the devs.

But will they have the box version available, you know with a limited edition big box all pretty and stuff, Like a pre order from gamestop, or best buy type thing ( I like going to gamestops beta release partys :D ). I like to collect those:groovy:. Also i have a questions about smoothness of the initial release dates, with all the hype about PS2 will they be ready for the massive log in and stuff like that. I know I was having major problems with Tera online and diablo 3. Have they addressed any of these issues.
Like I said this may be the wrong thread, I apologize I was just wanting to know if anyone had the answers to these questions.

Yeah I really hope we get an CE, but I doubt it. I would buy it instantly it it comes out though :)

Considering that hackers are a big problem in games with a box price, I think it just means the devs will have to be extra vigilant. Some mostly it will be awesome, because more players = better Planetside.

Considering that hackers are a big problem in games with a box price, I think it just means the devs will have to be extra vigilant. Some mostly it will be awesome, because more players = better Planetside.

Obvious hackers get dealt with so quickly that it shouldn't matter much. Subtle hackers often never get banned in the first place in many games.
Planetside 2's backend hack detection and it's live CSR's are going to make or break it, box price or no.

I got a beta key from BetaKeyBill on Twitter yesterday, pimping out my son :D I'm not holding my breath to it giving early closed beta or anything, but fingers crossed!

Well I got on the ps2 twitter this morning and spammed it with random funny pics off google with the text "I will get a beta key". Checked my message box, and it had a beta key. covered either way
Jesus, they're giving out hundreds of keys on twitter... there goes any chance of getting in early.
I can't wait until the devs realize that the marketing division of SOE has gotten a bunch of people not interested in testing into their closed beta!

Eh, I find it hard to believe that the average person on twitter going "hey lol i hurd ofdis game gief me key!" is going to be more likely to test it than a veteran of the game. Most of them just want to play it, and while that's true of me also, I want to help make the game something I want to play via feedback and finding game breaking exploits (IE multiple accounts = no vehicle CD) that needs to be fixed.

How do people who give 0 feedback during closed beta contribute?

Network and server load are open beta concerns, according to Higby. Closed beta is for balance and systems.
And they have plenty of vets, I don't see how they need others to test server load.

Someone on twitter mentioned, that veterans and those with PC Gamer vip access key get first. Keys given on twitter, facebook and at E3 aren't top priority. It was Danicia or RadarX who mentioned this, I don't remember who exactly.

Having just vets in closed beta is a terrible idea. I've seen a lot of people on this forum who basically want PS1 in a shiny new shell and new people to populate it. Having new players come in to do balancing work will help the game evolve into a new force entirely, and having the vets in during the process will help ensure that the game never forgets its roots in PS1.
Having a remake of PS1 wouldn't be ideal, so having the new guys in on closed beta for balancing is, in my opinion, a very good thing.

This question has probably been asked but I can't find it (i'm also very lazy at midnight). I remember before SOE mentioning they had a pool of priority beta applicants (previous PS1 players and PC Gamer key owners i believe).
At one time (I think it was higby) said that they would take all players from that pool until it was empty and invite them into beta.
At another time, another person said that they would take from that pool to a certain number, then every few weeks or so start adding more people in. Like a wave type thing.
I'm just wondering if anyone could shed light on which is correct, or if any PS2worker hasn't specified yet they could haha :).

It doesn't matter to much if some players never leave feed back in the forums or on surveys. A lot of teams these days just data mine what players are doing and kills ect. and balance around that.
And in all honesty that's the best way to go for balancing, because people have a notion of how something works, but the numbers don't. So even though some people may never say a word, just having them in there playing is providing feedback through stats.

Suggest that we'll be seeing Closed Beta in a few weeks, and in another few weeks Open Beta will start. I got all that from this video' its an interview with Matt about their apps and the game in general. ( Yes, he still has hair :( and it will be supported ( the app ) by android as well. )

I must admit I am a little concerned over the favor towards original planet side players.
I have nothing against them, of course, but the beta needs new blood as well, and I'm worried regarding the number of original players, and how much they will impede the efforts of new players trying to get into the beta.
Just my viewpoint on the matter.

I must admit I am a little concerned over the favor towards original planet side players.
I have nothing against them, of course, but the beta needs new blood as well, and I'm worried regarding the number of original players, and how much they will impede the efforts of new players trying to get into the beta.
Just my viewpoint on the matter.
Newblood means people who only played games like BF3 and will thus demand every aspect of the game to become as similiar to BF3 as possible. No thank you! :D

There will be plenty of new blood as well.
SOE wants to make sure they keep PlanetSide Alive while adding new flare for new players. They need both audiences to make beta a success.

So, I was wondering if it is per user or per key code? What I mean is if I was a PS1 player, have a PC Gamer Key, and went to E3 do i have 3 chances now or do I really only have the one chance since all 3 keys are in one account.
Personally I think it is the latter, but just wanted to know if there had been any clarification.
P.S. been lurking here since PS1 launch, and this is my first post! I do not know how I have resisted the temptation for so long to join up.
