We have:

Battle Medic
New Recruit Trainer
ATV Fast Recon
Transport Pilot
Tank Driver
Communication Officer
Night Ops
Patrol Leader
Defensive Engineer
Base Defence Chief
Fighter Pilot
Wall Hopping Assaulter
Cloaking Sniper

Of course you are not limited to the list above!

I myself am thinking of starting a new Outfit for the Warner/Euro Server called Bomber Command. As you guessed this will be flight, but not limited to it. I was maybe thinking of going for cloakers and Maxes as well.

Of course I'm a part of Azure Twilight which is a fantastic outfit, if I stay with them I can see us doing the AT things like gal drops and max crashes!

:)

Your thoughts on what roles you will be taking in Planetside2?

I get the impression that those specific names were examples of how you could tailor any class to a very specific role, based on certs, specializations, sidegrades, upgrades, and Implants. So, it doesn't mean that those are explicitly named-out in the game, but that they really are "roles" that you can "craft" for yourself.

As for myself, I intend to Class myself as a Vanu Engineer, and pour a mountain of points into the tactical explosives; remote-detonated, anti-personnel (claymore/bouncing-betty-style), anti-vehicular, tactical explosives (any trap-based explosives, like MW3's "care-package-trap"). However, I'm also going to pour points into having a completely riotously specced-out Pulsar Carbine, so I am very capable in close- to mid-range combat. I will unlock/sidegrade lots of options to increase how many explosives I can carry at once. Beyond that, I will throw a healthy splash of points into being a Scythe pilot and a Leader.

So, my personal class could be called: "Combat Demolitions" or "Special Forces"

Other people?

Can you add:
AFK in the CC
AFK Reading the map
Corpse

jus joking

I honestly don't know.
Probably heavy assault. I never using maxes in ps1 and can never dogfight. But if the speeding up is too fast for me to cope reasonably well then maybe cloaker.

Ever since I played BF1942/Desert Combat competitively, I've always been obsessed with Anti-Air. Just the feeling of looking up at the sky, finding that cocky little hotshot bastard, and sending his desperately flailing arse to the ground makes me smile.

I'm just hoping that, unlike the BF series, there's not going to be a drastic increase it the amount of 'guided AA'. Because honestly, after BF:V, AA in the series is on the verge of uselessness.

I'll be playing Heavy Assualt (Rexo) / Armored Vanguard driver / Spec ops. With the occasional Pilot ( Reaver squadron). One of those.

I was always AV specialist and that wont change in ps2. Everything that move and have more armor than a rexo will meet my lancer.

HA/Reaver like PS1, and now that PS2 has BR40 and Driver = gunner, I'll pull a Tank now and then.

I'm probably going for night Ops/Generic light assault. I was always AV in PS1 and while *whee-PEW* *BOOM* was always fun I look forward to sneaking about in the night time predator style.

I'll be a AoE/Explosive specialist.

If It explodes, cause's AoE damage, or just overall screams Area of Denial I'll be it.

From boomer filled ATV riding to firing flaks at air to setting the enemies mother on fire after placing her in the middle of a mine field as bait for the enemy.

This thread would have been more informative if it was a poll. It would have been easier to see the distributions of roles.

I'll point out what I'm generally good at but probably will have to do different roles as well. Sniper and fighter (multi-role) pilot.

I don't think those are "classes" or specializations so much as a play style you could pursue.

What would Communication Officer do?

What would Communication Officer do?

I was also thinking that. I really am not sure. Perhaps global chat will be a very specific tree branch that not many people will want to invest in. Thus, the best way to spread the word about things is to ask one of those people to /comall the message for you.

I've not played PS before so I've got nothing to go off, but since I heard about the game from my mate who told me about how you can drop out of the transport type ships I've always liked that idea. So either a pilot for them or something dropping from them :)

Saboteur grunt, multi-role fighter pilot?

Hard to say right now, there could be all kinds of stuff I want to do.

Liberator pilot first, then I'll try everything else.

I really want to try out the jump trooper, cloaker, and MAXes. As for vehicles, want to get in a lib and a reaver and see what it's like.

I will be all the roles. Jack-of-all-trades if you will. Whatever the situation calls for.

On the topic though, infiltrator assassin-kinda.

Fighter pilot of course :)

Defensive Engineer
Base Defence Chief

I giggled with happiness when I read these two. I'm for sure going to be playing the role of base builder/fortifier. I hope their will be an outfit that dose nothing but build bases. It would be cool as the other side of the pillow.

I'll probaby do a bit of everything.

However highlights for me will be cloaking, engi, lightning driver and light assault (jump jets!).

Kamikaze Pilot-Specialization: Counter Sniper

Fighter pilot would be my first choice, because I'm a Reaver lover.
Then, "wall hopping assaulter" and/or defensive engineer.

I'm also curious to check how cool Night Ops can be :)

Demolitions

The joy it brings me to see my killspam from boomers and mines - it has to be either unhealthy, immoral, or fattening.

Oh so many things to choose from...

My first thought was cloaking sniper. Best thing since ghillie suit sniper. :p

But if the MAXes get flamethrowers, I'd be able to live out my dreams of being a firebat. But then, I also love flying, so a Mossie pilot is always an option. But what about Demolitions. Big explosions make me hard. And there is just being a regular cloaker, knifing people in the back, blowing up gens, etc...

I feel like my brain is going to explode...

AV/Grinder, just working the walls trying to stop anything coming in (and now over)

Is there something like a paratrooper/pathfinder?

Considering we'll be fighting over the entire land for each grid, scouting ahead and setting up fobs and other sort of forward posts is going to be very important.

I would love to try to tailor a class for moving fast, hitting hard, and then digging in. We wouldn't the best at all attacking or defending, but we would be good enough to hold for awhile as larger armored units or reinforcements to arrive.

For example I would love to jump into an area with some basic anti-armor, some deployable turrets and resupply points, and be able to dig into an area temporarily and hold it. On larger attacks or defenses we wouldn't be the strongest units on the field, but we would be used to harass the crap out of the enemy.

That would be my ideal role. Recon, scouting, lighting fast attacks, and holding positions not at a hard base.

Oh that would be cool. Maybe do a kind of engineer with the squad spawning command power. Drop in and hold a pass way, or secure an zone for gal deployment.

I'd like to be anti- vehicle specialist, tanker, aircraft pilot and specially the Predator. Yes i want to suprise those patrols by knifing them to death until only one survives barely and gets to the galaxy and tells the others that there is something evil in the woods. I want to look in his eyes next time when he gets back for some moar, i want to smell the fear in them! And when i'm a tanker i want to feel like in WW2 on a tiger tank and when i play pilot i want to feel like in Star Wars. Let the killin BEGIN!!!!

Hmm and maybe some generic marine or something like that.

I'd love to fly and customize a Galaxy for maximum protection, so I'd be the one to create the fallback point for pathfinders and all those sneaky forward operators.

It should definitely be more exciting than AMS-ing, I'll lock the pilot seat and hop in one of my turrets and start the cover.

Always have been a Gal pilot, will be interested to see if the "new" weapon options and need to keep a spawn close mean I'll be flying CAS during operations, rather than turning tail and running.
