This hasn't been discussed much (as a main topic anyway) and I don't think it's been confirmed. But in PS1 Prone used to be a hot discussion and honestly I'd like to see it make it into PS2. But it hasn't been revealed in any screens.

Should Prone be in? Should it be a special ability/cert?

And I went for no.

Yes. See, I can like new things! I think that if done well (physics aside,) prone would be a really good game mechanic for snipers. It should take time to get down and get up, and you should move slow as balls when you're down there (crawling + no easy way to turn,) but that's pretty realistic.

Yes it should, but I'm pretty sure that it is 100% confirmed that it won't be in the game at launch.

If you don't think you should be able to go prone in PS2, let me remind you that the game is going to feature people shooting bullets at you. A pretty effective strategy to avoid getting hit by those bullets is to lower your cross section in the direction that they're shooting at you from, and seeking cover.

This has been discussed TO THE BALLS!

There is no Prone in PS2, and the majority says no to prone anyway. THere sno point for this crap.

Basti seems to sum it up rather well.

I think it should be a high level skill unlock for snipers only.

I think it should be a high level skill unlock for snipers only.

This is a basic move, it should be in game for everyone or not.

The only thing "crappy" about a prone feature is the bad implementation in most games that allows for continuous dolphin-diving as a superior tactic.

However, dolphin diving can be eliminated as a valid tactic if prone is implemented correctly. Dolphin diving is prevalent in those games because the move is almost instantaneous and it hardly affects your aim at all.

However, if it takes a second or two to reach (or stand up from) the prone position and makes your CoF (or whatever PS2's equivalent is) GIGANTIC until a second or two after you're completely prone, dolphin diving wouldn't be of much use other than a weak attempt at dodging. But it would still allow prone itself to be useful once you've settled into the position.

So, as you all can probably guess, yes, I'd like to see prone implemented. It would be another tactical maneuver we could add to our arsenal, creating yet more variety in combat.

If Battlefield did anything right it was removing prone in the bad company series, too bad it's back in BF3.

Prone is as useless in Planetside as crouching is as useless in Quake.

Mixed feelings about prone. On one hand, I like the idea for snipers and such. At the same time, I do not like the idea of Planetside becoming a campers paradise. Problem with BF3 and prone on the PC version, is that it can become lone-some and dull since most people well end up camping rather then pushing.

Final vote is no. Since PS 1 already had issue's with a simple pushing into a base's or tower's; I'd rather not have another repeat or another reason for not pushing in a base.

I voted no, there are so many reasons but I'm way too lazy to list them. Simply put, I've thought about it and don't like it in PS2.

Agreed, prone is just another avenue campers can use to well....camp. Standing and crouching function fine, no need to add in prone, it would only slow the game down.

I wouldn't mind too much so long as it had limitations.

Takes about 2-3 seconds for your guy to go prone/get out of prone

Very low accuracy in the transition between prone and crouch/standing

Very slow movement/turning speed

Certain weapons can't be used in prone(rocket launcher and some others)

Must be standing still to prone

I would use it for maybe a sneaking up tool for an ares with not a lot of cover, but tall grass(wouldn't be able to see much because of that grass though).

It has uses, but I wouldn't be mad if it wasn't in the game.(I can't snipe so the main point for it would be useless to me)

Whats so bad with camping anyway? and in what way would it be even useful on maps the size of planetsides? This isnt CS where people are stuffed into a closet together.

If you think it encourages people to just hang back and go pew pew, thats going to happen no matter what you do.

Yea I think we have plenty of these and we know it's not in. :) Feel free to bump one of the longer discussions.
