Is it just me or is this class not getting enough attention?
I know everyone likes big guns, etc... But cmon:mad:! This class has jumpfknjets and smoke grenades! I am really leaning towards light assault, it just sounds like a world of fun to me.
It may not sport the biggest digital e-penis, but what a mobile instigating clusterfuker.

Depends how easy they are to kill, if its just like shooting pheasants then its fine with me :)

Anyone ever play Space Marine? That game had a jumpjet class that had a pistol and a big ass melee weapon. I think it would be awesome if light assault had some kind of melee weapon. Not sure how it would work, but a lightsaber would be cool.

Melee weapons are okay for space marines because they have huge suits of armor and are amazingly durable. When bullets are a serious threat to you, it's probably a better idea to stick to using guns.

This is probably my favorite class at this point. I used to hate on the VS maxes because of their jump jets but now that the game is a bit faster it will be fun to get into places where you aren't expected.

I just hope it's not going to turn into a Tribes Ascend video with folk jumping all over the place.

That depends on the frequency and duration you can use it.
To make sure it's not used too often in a gimmicky, abusable fashion (as in, bunnyhoppily), but strategically, you could apply either a capacitor or a set amount of jumps you can do per life or jetpack.
Perhaps like the VS MAX jumpjet op old, it'll have a recharge over a relatively long period of time (say a half a minute to a minute or two before you can jump again). Meaning if you manage your jets poorly, you'll be very vulnerable.
I would say for infantry, frequency shouldn't be high enough to jump more than once or twice during an engagement. During a jump, reduced accuracy would IMO be a must as well (at least while you'd be accelerating during the jump and right after landing depending on the drop height).
Btw, I'd expect light infantry to take some damage from a fall depending on height drop as well. That could help as well in making the jumpjet be more skill oriented.

I think having jump "fuel" would be the best solution, instead of just a recharging jump capacitor like the old VS MAXs had. So people don't just spam it in the middle of a fight, it becomes more of a tactical tool to get to places you couldn't reach without it. And you could still use it in emergencies to try to jump out of a bad situation, but that becomes a tactical decision too because now it leaves you with much less fuel until you can find more (I guess through inventory stations or maybe ammo drops).

I don't mind if people spam the jumpjets, it means they are up in the sky with no cover = easy to kill. Bring em on!

clever game mechanic really. I assumed these were just going to be guys who get up on base walls and start harrassing, and whereas there will be some of that there job is alot more varied.
Throwing a smoke grenade between defenders and your troops to give them cover, and then doing a speedy flank to the right. Will be genius, you but the defenders in a rock and a hard place. Do they keep a large mass of infantry surpressed, and risk being jumped by the light assault. Or do they go after the speedy guys, opening themselves up to a ground assault.
Cleverly done. Might have to throw myself into the meat grinder as this class, and watch my comrads progress.

Well, there will be a ton of tactics with these guys...
1. Get about 3-5 for a bridge fight, and do some leapfrog smoke grenades for a push across.
2. Leap to a door, and throw smoke "down the hole".
3. Leap closer to a sniper and throw smoke onto him, making his vision at any angle unattenable, forcing a move.
4. Throw smoke in one direction as a diversion, jump to another location.
5. Jumping off cliffs, hitting jets to land soft.
6. Jumping over vehicles running you down.
7. Marking targets with smoke for air-to-ground runs.
8. Covering medics for revives.
9. Bypassing MAX's, or HA.
10. Cat and mouse, scare tactics.
... all kindsa shit... :sniper::bouncy:

Run up to a tank
Plaster it with C4
Fly away
Light assault is gonna be a beast.

Thinking a bit more, it might be a nice touch if any flack weapons or AA had a vehicle like damage against Light Infantry that are jetpacking in the air. Or alternatively cause the jetpack to stop working whilst still airborne, cue all sorts of falling fun.

I see myself splitting time with LA and MAX suits. Gonna be sweet.
Smoke grenades are a phenomenally underappreciated tool. I hope to spend a lot of time leading squads, so these two choices make a great deal of sense: one provides the cover of smoke, the other provides the cover a raw, hot, nasty storms of lead.

Secretly it's going to be one of my favorite classes, and now with smoke? Beautiful. I always did like the class with the smoke, MAG's squad leader and commander come to mind. Now I'm wondering if there's going to be some kind of poison gas variant grenade...

I really hope that heavy assault will get access to smoke grenades as well. One of my favourite play styles in CoD-style shooters is to bring a heavy LMG and smoke grenades, so that I can block the enemy team's visibility from certain angles, and provide covering fire/try to pin down enemies so that my team can focus on handling the given objective.

It would make sense but they probably wont allow it just cause they wont want too many people on the field able to throw smoke. Would lag it up. In a lot of shooters its only the officers that get smoke because of that.

Well I'm planning to go all stealthy in PS2 so I'll be rolling light assault for the bigger battles. Can't wait to get my hands on smoke and that beauty of a Pulsar.

Same. Except replace Pulsar with Cycler. ;)

I'll be rolling Heavy Assault primarily for the big battles with a mix of Light Assault for guerrilla warfare tactics.
