Anyone else get the impression you can dual wield Splatter Cannons as a max?

Was too busy thinking about dual wielding flame throwers :D

(But yes I think it implies you can dual wield AV or AI if you want)

Well I hope they do it right.

What are your concerns? Visually or balance wise?

Because balance is sort of a non issue when deciding if you can have one or two arms at this stage - rate of fire etc are just numbers to set in playtests :)

Dual Lancers may be handy.

If Lancers are in game...

I imagine an AI MAX will be balanced around having both arms as AI weapons.

It'll end up the same as the biffers, you didn't really see people using 2 different arms as they weren't effective enough at one specific job to be useful.

I guess the same will be true of these MAXes Jack of all trades won't really be worth it in most cases

LOL I was just able to watch the video from last night and knew as soon as I herd this I knew there would be a thread. The Scat max was 1 of the worst balanced things in PS1, and now you can dual wield with it

(I understand its a new game and balance will be different)

chill guys, new game, new mechanics, beta balancing

Everything will be different most of all the environment we will fight in will be bigger, the current scattermax was only effective because you were forced into its arms.

Dont forget instant data feedback to the devs will be alot more detailed and conclusive this time around. We will have clear hotspots where each unit excells and fails, some with intentional shortcomings, others with accidental shortcomings.

I dare say after one big base battle, they will have everything they need to start swapping numbers around.

The hardest battle in my opinion will be making AV weapons do the correct amount of damage to infantry. We dont want a situation where people just equip AV because its good at one thing and okay at another. But at the same time, if someone takes a rocket to the face, we all have an idea of the type of lethality that has to a person, even with shields.

My biggest worry is that guarding base interiors will be a spam fest with explosives. Battlefield has grenades just right, you use them to get someone out of cover, and if you dont notice it and die then its your own fault. But battlefield also fails because i can kill someone at 200 metres with my RPG because my SMG doesnt have the range. Stupid. I should never want to kill a man and want to pull out my AV rocket for splash damage.

Yes, I can confirm, in the PC Gamer article, Evan Lahti says that there is a MAX certification that allows you to wield twin iterations of the same gun. So one could not slot the same weapon twice by default, but they could certify the ability to do so. Evan's particular MAX setup was a chaingun and a grenade launcher. He said it blew infantry into pieces (until they started outmaneuvering him because MAX's turn so slow- good thing my brother's gaming mouse has "sensitivity adjustment on the fly"! He's going to be a Vanu MAX pilot).

Make rockets just like they are in PS1 - zero damage to infantry. Every game has shown that if AV is too effective against infantry then it will be abused, just look at BF3/BFBC2.

Just make it so rockets have a low splash and move (comparatively) slower so you can dodge. Rocket will still kill a person, but guns are faster and more effective. Grenades on the other hand are meant to kill infantry and were excellent counters to hardened defensive positions, so they should stick around.

Yep, rockets should still kill, it just shouldn't be easy. It would be silly to see a rocket hit someone in the face and they take no damage as a poster above suggested.

They better not have nerfed my glorious splattercannon because you can wield 2 of them now...

Also, I wonder if they got rid of the 3 different choke spreads because of it?

It doesn't matter how slow you make a rocket, when there's 15 people in a hallway, you'll hit one of them. If the rockets do significant dmg they'll be abused.

Make it like in Planetside 1. The rocket splash dosent do much to infantry and a direct hit did 50HP of damage.

(This was with the deci.)

I had a theory that Decimator rockets had a Weight Trigger on the warhead, so that they didnt really detonate on Infantry because they were too light, but when they hit a wall, vehicle or a MAX unit, they provided enough resistance to cause the Warhead to detonate properly.

Nothing can help them.

I played NC yesterday. And besides their quite powerful weapons, ALL of them are just terrible players. :p

I deleted that NC character today. Never going there again, ever :P

They may be terrible players, but they play against retards (VS), so it is fair.

I'm glad we agree. Now, if we can also agree that VS are equally bad, we can get you in your red/black uniform. :p

It always comes down to:
AV
AI
AA

Why would a round that takes out tanks, not take out infantry at the same speed? Etc..

From the PCGamer article is sounds like MAXs will be slow moving, almost stationary, suits, that can be easily circle strafed by infantry. If this is the case, MAX DPS should be high and dual AI MAX DPS should be at the peak DPS offered in an infantry unit.

I imagine that the slow turn speed is something to make them require teamwork. It's basically a hard-coded way to ensure two MAXes covering each other are much more effective than two MAXes soloing. I can support that.

I want a shield I can carry with one arm. Or dual overlapping shields I can carry with two arms.

I tend to think defensively.

Unlike PS1, where, if I registered this correctly, one shotgun shot would hit ONLY the person in the crosshairs, and absolutely nothing and nobody else, shotguns should actually operate like shotguns. I.e. if you aim at a crowd, every pellet hits SOMEBODY. Not "one pellet hits the person in the crosshairs and the other pellets magically vanish"

I'm not sure if that was the case with PS1, especially as distance from target increased. Can Higby or anyone answer that?
