Soldier cosmetic Suggestions

Obviously the following suggestion is purely secondary and in no way implying the divertion of vital resources to it.

The suggestion is simple, lots of aesthetic customization options for infantry. This could tie in to individual customization, or guild customization. Individual & Guild options could each have their own unique things that they only have access to.

Other games that have good examples of this are ones such as Halo Reach (http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/haloreach_customization.jpg), All Points Bulletin, Battlefield 3. In no way is it implied that the customization be as in-depth as say APB, but inspiration can be taken from those systems.

Since PS2 is after all a MMO that will likely progress for years with many expansions and patches, this idea seems vital to personalizing your soldier and outfit.

The customization options could be unlocked as you level up or as your guild levels up. Some options might only be unlocked or given to you as a reward for playing PS2 for a year, 2 years etc.

Brainstormed Examples:

-More enhanced looking shoulder armor pieces
-More advanced looking helmet types
-Capes (As seen from another thread, although in my opinion capes should only be awarded to high ranking guild officers or leader)
-Customization options to make your character look suited for certain biomes, (e.g. desert (http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs26/f/2009/250/6/8/Tallarn_Sniper_by_Obrotowy.jpg), jungle (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_wRZ1N9p2Fyg/TKTx16_1Q-I/AAAAAAAAAOI/E2R4GDkfpm0/s1600/CatachanHeavyWeapons.jpg))
-Decal options to make armor look rusted, dented or "worn" out to give a "veteran" feel
-camouflage choices(no brainer)
-Equipping & displaying medals earned from various campaigns or perhaps ones designed by the guildmaster awarded at his discretion
-High ranking officers in guilds being slightly taller than regular soldiers (Think about tall men in real life having a natural "Leadership" or "Commanding" aura about them, i.e. George Washington)
-Option to hide your helmet
-accessories such as purely cosmetic backpack radio or transmitters, ammo packs etc
-special "Officer" equipment and pieces only available to guild leaders and their high ranking subordinates
-coloring options (no brainer)
-different styles of goggles, visors, or other face equipment

All this could be accomplished while not breaking the general look and feel of each faction; many games have accomplished this.

If you're going to goto war, go looking like a total badass.

Also am not a fan of stuff that only outfit leaders or officers can wear, because they are not in any way special. If they want to appear special, they can restrict their members from wearing stuff.

The only cosmetic item I would really be interested in if they released on the cash shop would be an old school Planetside 1 skin kit. Old school weapon and armor skins. I'd be down to spend a bit of money on that.....

Plenty of player customisation favourite quick slots, this couples with Customisation options to make your character look suited for certain biomes, (e.g. desert , jungle)

So you can quick swap into your preset style so not having to mess around setting when arriving in different areas.

Also the same as the first one just with Oufit uniforms, so if one of your outfit mates takes the time design the uniforms looks you can just click and add it to your list.
Just making things easy.

I know you guys don't like capes but how do you feel about Parkas or cold weather short/long coats?

I think being able to freely design an outfit logo and then place it all over your guy would be cool. Also we've seen that camouflage will be in game but adding and amount of customisation would be a definite plus!

I would love some more helmet options for the TR. I know this seems more of an NC thing, but I would love a glass face-piece helmet ala EVA from Halo. :D

Yup, outfits will have their own forms of visual customization beyond a logo, which is amazing by the way... I've always thought outfit points should translate into some form of currency.

I really don't mind outfit leaders or outfits having their own sets of options, they are special, they're what keeps people playing the game beyond advancement.

But yea I am pretty excited for all he options we could have, camo patterns, different guard plates.... dare I say it... HATS? I demand a hat week. :D

I'm afraid you're right, so I doubt we will be able to actually "draw" our own outfit logos.

From an APB veteran experience, where creating just about anything is possible, I have to say that in some 1500 hours of gameplay, I've only really ran into a handful of male genitalia. There are always some immature kids around, but most won't bother.

yeah saw all that disgusting stuff in San Paro but RTW and then Gamerfirst didn't have a clue how to run a CSR team, I don't think PS2 will have quite the customiser that APB had.

Easy solution is to have Outfit ranks, and you have to have a certain rank, providing a filter for less dedicated clans, and have a CSR approval system, providing a filter for the childish.

Not too hard really.

For the longest time, I was against all this cosmetic fluff. Now, I'm totally for it. Why not ? If some guy wants custom shades - let him buy them. Capes ? I don't get it, but put 'em up for sale in the CA$H Shop. Why not ?

I'd love to see "Capes" restricted to upper CR, or Uber-High BR. Then, I know who I want to shoot at first.

....a lot of good ideas here. Most I don't relate to, but that's why I'm changing my opinion. I could not care less if someone made their Outfit Logo a Penisaurus. They could be the Crimson Crowbars Outfit....or the Foaming Beef Probes,....or an even more juvenile name (preferably).

....kinda funny actually (IMO). I'm twacked, so I tend to like political incorrectness. No Neo-Nazi or any "hate" type crap. But goobers, idiots, or guys with brains from outer space or the cartoon network are welcome in my PS2 World. Humor is a good thing - even if it's not your style or preference.

Give 'em all a buttload of customization choices - and let the general population judge them.

Something they could do is sell faction coloured gear. Example: Change your thermal so that instead of white,red,yellow,green.blue.black it could go white,light purple, purple, cyan,darker cyan,black. Not sure of some colour names so dark and light are the replacers.

Also faction smoke example: Red Purple Blue

That is if none of this is in beta

Customization is cool and all, but you don't want to get too far away from being able to identify just what you are looking at. You give too much customization and you just get a big blah blah of multicolored enemies, which really makes them less customized and not identifiable.

I am more than willing to pay if it means I can remove the bright yellow and blue from my impending NC infantry.

I love my NC, but even I have to admit that no army in their right mind would use our color scheme. Unless Esamir has been redesigned as a planet consisting wholly of oceans and sunflowers, blue and yellow infantry uniforms defy rationality.

I also reject the notion that Ikea provides our armor.

I'll admit, the Space Marines of WH40K stand for the proposition that bright colors= intimidation and lack of fear. And that makes a bit of sense in the NC context--as rebels, being highly visible is an act of defiance in and of itself.

But truth be told, I'd rather be inconspicuous and let my rifle do the talking.

I'd pay to change the colour of the "explosion" thingy at the end of your weapon when you fire. Instead of the standard yellow/orange colour, maybe blue, red or something...

For the most part this would be how I feel about it. This leaves me with two concerns...
1. Recognition Issues - This was already brought up but reiterating
2. Immaturity - While I'm all for a laugh and the "to each their own" idea, there does need to be some moderation if players are given the freedom to create their own logos and such. As an art student, I LOVE the idea of being able to design our own outfit logo, but I would expect some kind of approval system if they let customization go that far.

when i say slots for medals and ribbons i dont mean there should slots from your neck to your ass :D
how about 4 ribbons on the arm and 2 medals on your chest, so you would have to chose wich ones you are most proud of
