Was said private artist making money from these pictures?
They'd probably be fine without the NC/TR/VS graphic logos, but with them you might be in dangerous territory.

If you sell an image with SOMEONE ELSE'S FUCKING INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, namely SOE property in the form of stuff that THEY created, YOU ARE STEALING. It doesn't matter WHO drew it - private artist or not - IT IS NOT THEIR CREATION AND IT IS NOT THEIR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY.
I fucking hate thieving cunts like you, you're the reason why individual start-ups and good, honest hard workers don't get paid. Because you're a fucking THIEF.

I really believe i am geving people something, not stealing from them.

the posterpics might be ok. but the logos are property of SOE, so i would be very very careful.
spreadshirts legal notes demand that you only upload pics you have the copyright for, so you should cancel these shirts immediately. sony doesn´t really like violators of copyright and they are not afraid to take action.
to be on the safe side, write to SOE and ask for permission to setup those spreadshirts. if they grant permission go ahead, but if not... pull out as fast as you can
and you know who made the posters, so pm them to ask for permission as well. they may not take legal action like sony would, but you know... it doesn´t hurt to ask politely, and it should be done prior to selling things.

I REALLY dont think its a good idea for you guys to be putting these on T-Shirt websites and trying to sell them. I had my fun creating my art in the art thread, but I wont be trying to sell it or use it for anything other then looking at.
You could get in some serious trouble from SOE for copyrighting this stuff. Mainly because its there IP and its there images that we have just altered and meshed together. Almost none of it is original artwork that has nothing to do with PS. If it has there IP on it, id probably remove it from the site and what not.
Otherwise SOE could hem you up good for it.

You are engaging in theft and re-marketing of intellectual property which does not belong to you. You may be giving shirts to people, but you're doing it in exchange for money. You aren't stealing from people, you're stealing from SOE and the Planetside developers past and present, all of whom worked their asses off to provide something to us. You can pretend to be Jesus On The Cross, Our Martyr all you fucking want, but you are stealing - plain and simple. When you steal shit from someone else, stuff that YOU DID NOT CREATE, and sell it to people, and NONE of that money goes back to SOE, you are stealing. And for every nickel of sales that you take from some company, that's a nickle that doesn't go into their coffers. And whilst SOE might be the Big Bad Evil Man who gave us shitty games and BFRs, at the end of that pipeline is some poor schlub developer who gets shit on by cocksuckers like you and faces a layoff because of flagging revenue.
Which is one less dev lending his talent to bring us Planetside 2. Which is one less dev who can't afford to feed his family because he got laid off from his job.
Good job. What a fucking saint you are, bringing t-shirts of stolen IP to the masses.

I must say that I like the idea too, and even people like Higby might like the idea, but as said, you are trying to sell SOEs intellectual properties for money and their lawyers might not care how much of a fan are you.
Not to mention I seriously doubt you've asked all the artists in question whether you can use these pictures to begin with. Although even if they gave you the permission it wouldnt be legal.
One can make these kinda t-shirts for themselves. I doubt it would be even against the law in any shape or form cos you arnt selling them, but even if it technically would, it would go under fair use, this one most likely wont.

Doubtful he would get the permission, selling merchandise like this is one form of business too for the company in question. Other thing is that it would most likely have to be a written agreement, not just some "sure its ok" kinda deal in the emails.
Not to mention the lawyers would probably have to do fairly much work to get the agreement into the shape where it couldnt be exploited in any shape or form, overall resulting in fairly many manhours, which probably isnt worth the effort on their end.
Hell, they gain more from it by hosting a competition to submit this kinda pictures with the disclaimer that all submissions end up as SOEs property and making and selling the shirts themselves :D

KoGoO,
I'm sorry but you appear to have misunderstood, even if "made" by the artists in the thread, and even with logos removed, those images contain intellectual property of SOE. The IP that remains are the designs of the Vanu soldier, Scythe and the NC soldier.
With that in mind you cannot sell that IP without the explicit permission of SOE, whilst I'd hesitate to say illegal (as copyright infringement is a civil issue not criminal, afaik) you must absolutely not sell those designs.
Besides, if I wanted them on a t-shirt, I'd go print them myself at a fraction of the cost.
EDIT: Actually the general concept of the TR poster may be covered as being under the IP of gearbox as it is the Crimson Lance poster from Borderlands, right?

in some cases it is even against the copyright, if you make a pic that doesn´t contain any soe ip, but use the name "planetside" to sell them.
try to buy a stormtrooper armor on the net! you can get them, but nobody calls them stormtrooper armor because that would violate cr. they are sold as "white armor" and are tolerated because lucas arts doesn´t sell them by theirselfs.
but soe might want to sell shirts, so any form of competition will most likely not be tolerated.
copyrights are really complicated and have many gray zones, but i would not dare to try how far i can go... because i am sure soe has better lawyers than i could ever afford.

Still illegal. (As in, breaking the law. "Illegal" can apply to both criminal and civil law breaking.) Or, maybe that's just what I've been 'feared' into believing? The man keeping a brother down?

If you have anything that is a representation of Planetside, you cannot sell it. This includes, but not limited to logos, characters, weapons, vehicles, slogans, or colors. The only way SOE won't care if you posses a shirt is if you make the shirt yourself, and you do not use any professional means to create it. In almost all cases, online shirt making companies have it in their agreement that you are not pressing copywrited materials. Believe or not, you're not allowed to buy a custom cake with copyrighted images. Licensing is a bitch legally and costs lots of money. If you want to make a deal with SOE, go for it, but personally, I would leave the shirt printing to them.
Colors are copyrighted? To put it simply, yes. You are taking SOE's idea and are clearly taking it from the game. I'm sure they won't throw a fit if you do a shirt that is blue and yellow, but thats about as far as you can go for professionally made shirts. If you start adding more, that is when you will face trouble. I'm not saying that one company owns the color 'blue', but colors are a part of the intellectual property of the specific assets.
-----
Anyway, if charges were pressed (don't worry about it) it would be both civil and criminal. Civil for damages and criminal for selling counterfeit goods. There would be more criminal charges related to counterfeit as well.
Also this:
U can't sell sony copy written assets
-TRay via Twitter
Now, why doesn't PSU get charged with using SOE materials?
1. They probably have permission.
---If they don't have written permission, it is certainly implied.
2. They aren't fully monetizing/making a profit. PSU is run by donations.
---Google apparently owes Hamma a fat wad of cash from ads, but then decided nope. No ad money for you. Ask Hamma about it.
3. PSU does way more good than harm.
---By selling a shirt, you are making a profit. Period. SOE would be losing money to you, even if you call it a 'promotional tool for Planetside'.
---PSU is a promotional tool for Planetside, but it doesn't make a profit.
4. There's more, but I'm done typing.
-----
Keep in mind, this is all assuming you are not licensing anything from SOE.
Edit: I should add, I'm not entirely sure what the law says about personal use nor am I a legal expert. Its a really sticky area. My guess is that SOE won't care too much if you are able to get a hold of a professional press to do a single shirt without paying anyone for doing the work and you have no intention to sell this one shirt. This would probably apply only if they do not have any plans on merchandising.
SOE: Maybe you could have fan submissions for merchandise designs?
