When will Beta invitations by email be sent? [Archive]

Hey, im just going mad with anticipation. I know no one can really say a date, but im new to beta and i was just wondering how long before beta starts are the invites likely to be sent out? A Day? A week? Two?

Short answer ... we don't know and the DEVS haven't said.

Speculation: they wouldn't have given keys to readers of PC Gamer if it was a long time to go .... sooo .... 3-4 weeks?

**Edit ... also beta will start off fairly small so not everyone will receive an invitation at the same time.

They'll probably go out sometime in the summer or fall. I wouldn't worry about the beta. Plenty of great games just around the corner to keep you entertained until they get this one sorted.

PCGamer wouldn't have given beta keys out if beta wasn't near. We were told beta would be Q1 of this year. How could you possibly think that beta won't be till fall?

I reckon beta will be announced at GDC - invites to come out mid-month for an end of March beta.

GW2 is going to go into a wider closed beta soon, and will be coming out soon after. They really need to get their shizzle together because GW2 will be taking ALOT of MMO players off the market.

At the moment, people are bored of WoW and Star Wars is just WoW with a skin over it. GW2 will do REALLY well. PS2 beta needs to be soon :(

Theres not a single title coming up short from PS2 that is even remotely interesting or me. That said, I doubt the beta will start as late as you expect.

I honestly am expecting beta to be fairly soon... It just feels like they are pretty much done with designing content and are now working on what they are going to keep and what not. Granted we havent seen any continents besides the one we see in all the screen shots.

But maybe my expectations for beta being soon is driven by the fact I want to test out the game before I start school in mid May.

Well if it is March then Smed and have stuck to his original word he gave us all in 2011. But like ive said before, i really thinks PS1's anniversary would be the absolutely latest.

We don't know - we also dont know how PS1 players will be invited. It's total speculation and there's no solid info out there right now.

Usually, USUALLY, when EMAIL beta invites go out beta has begun or will be in a day or so. Thats a usually thing, not for sure with Planetside 2 or SOE.

PC Gamer people already have there keys, and I figured once those started showing up beta would begin, but apparently I was wrong on that one too.

I think it is done by account not by key input. maybe the PCG keys only flag your account, used in the normal beta sign-up from the web site, as priority when it was actually not a priority account. like an upgrade.

last beta i did with SOE, they just sent me an Email with a link to the beta patcher download. of course needed to log into account to access it. =p

but this is all spec. until a dev drops the news so...:groovy:

I've been thinking .. (dangerous I know)

Of us all, who will get access first .. well, if I was Higby, I'd send the first invitations out to those I thought would be sure to participate.

Which means that, if the initial beta sessions are run at a convenient time for San Diego devs the people most likely able to play would be those who had free time at that time, ie not at work or school.

Sooooo, that would mean East Coast US.

Afternoon play tests in SD would be evening play time in NY, so they get the first 'nod'.

that is my theory and I'm sticking to it, until I change it :p

You were told beta Q1 this year a long time ago. Beta dates are quite often pushed back. Sometimes they're pushed back an entire year. The fact that they aren't even alluding to a forthcoming beta announcement says quite a bit. I suspect if Higby had knowledge of actual beta start date info he wouldn't have said they have absolutely nothing to say about beta in that recent PC magazine interview. Them not even throwing out a "sometime this Spring" or whatever means you ought not to get your hopes up for a beta anytime soon.

Offtopic real quick: I HATE it when someone clearly younger then me calls me "bud"... Just got off the phone with dominos and the kid was CLEARLY younger then me but because my voice isnt super deep he called me "bud". I want to kill him right now... I am 23... he was probably 16 or 17.

Too be honest I hope everything works out when it comes to the vets, I know higby said that if you were a PS player you get priority access. Unfortunately I've been desperate to get my hands on a magazine but its sold out left and right. I haven't subbed to Planetside for years and due to various activities and because of that money is tight- I'm basically using my 45 days given by SOE to play Planetside, since it will be my very last time playing ever.

I'm very anxious and paranoid about beta; Questions like "Do I have to subscribe to get in early? Does it matter if I do or not? What qualifies as a veteran?" these questions plague my mind. I want to get into beta because this is the dream game I waited for most of my life:Mass battles,airship drops, tanks,interior battles,unique factions- Planetside 2 has it all, I could go on. Another minor reason I want to get into beta is to reserve my In-game tag I used for years (or attempted to get) it would be glorious to to play PS2 for years with the name you chose and not settle with.

But I digress,its late I'm going to sleep.
