Hamma, I know this is slightly offtopic, but I felt it had to be said.
This community is fantastic.
Its been years and years since I have seen a good gaming community that isn't full of haters and trolls.
For an example see the Diablo 3 general forums...
I just wanted to let you all know i've been following these forums for years and it just hit me just how good this little community is. Its so good in fact that the developers are cool with coming in here to fill us in on information, which rarely happens.
So kudos to all of us, the Planetside gamers.

I worry that its because its a small community; once you get the masses rolling in as PS2 draws closer things may well change.

Hopefully by then there will be official forums for that and they wont find our niche community here on PSU... So we can remain our own little community, but then again Hamma in all his wisdom will probably be trying to get more flow through here as we get more and more info to bring new people in. *shrug* Either way WE know who we are. I can name off at least 30 people on here that I personally wont forget. *shrug* Hopefully when PS2 hits most of us will be using the same names and rolling with the same outfits, so we can still be able to say whats up in game and show some recognition of our PSU Peers.

If things go well, forumside will resume on the official SOE PS forums instead of PSU.

Right, but then we are subject to having to listen to the whining and crying of the masses of new PS people coming in. =) I like having a smaller more constructive community.
Even if not all of us get along, there is a respect there.
And the sad part is, I bet its going to become a PSU vs the rest deal on the forums because most people on the official forums for games are bitching they don't like something in the game and want it changed.
Where as those of us that have helped push the direction for PS2 to what the true PS1 gamers want will be doing everything we can to fight against those threads calling for action against a current mechanic we all like. *shrug*
Just a thought. I like to believe we have a good thing going here on PSU. I dont check any forum as much as this one, not now and not ever in the past.

I have yet to see an official game forum where there is no whining, crying, trolling, etc... All that stuff was a sport and ForumSide was the stadium.
:D
I agree with you, it's great to have a constructive community to discuss ideas and opinions.
I do have a perverted fetish about going on SOE forums once in a while and reading all the golden threads over there.
^^
Lasher snake, troll development suggestions, never-ending debates, e-peen warfare, etc... It's worse than TV and almost as toxic for the brain but great entertainment nonetheless. I'm deviant just like that.

Not my thing. I get my fill of forum nastiness from Diablo 3 general forums. Its FILLED with trolling and hatred. Its almost hard to read sometimes because I ALSO want to see Diablo 3 go far. I just have to keep reminding myself that the people on those forums are only a FRACTION of the amount of people that will be playing.

I think this forum is well enough policed that if some tool comes along that they won't last long. See my sig.

Someone will come in here flapping his or her gums like a duck's ass in whippoorwill season and will walk right into my three-metre killzone. I'm all for productive and engaging conversation, even if it's homoerotic banter. But I can't stand Stupid.

Your posts are always fun to read Firefly =)
Just saying. To the PSU community I think you are like the big rough tough guy we don't $(#^ with, always watching us but rarely speaking up and when you do you tend to be putting your foot up someones rear end. Hahaha, its kind of hilarious. <3 I think when I had a much older account back in the day I made a post and you basically came in swinging at me for something I had said =P That was a looonnng time ago.
Infact at some point I know that a "Remember when Firefly did/said X" is going to start...
EDIT: And I believe FF just called my post Homoerotic =P Just because I am showing some love to my fellow community of PSU.

I think it's great that this forum is so positive, even within the range of opinion that exists.
However, there will be baiters and trolls. Again, as beta commences and progresses there will no doubt be a lot of venting going on and crying and appeals for nerfs and buff.
Hopefully, the people acting crazy will be confined to the official forums while this one retains a modicum of sanity.

change is always good as are new opinions and new blood.
Some people will be idiots others will be trolls, they will come and they go, same as it ever was.

I too am really impressed with these boards.
I really haven't seen any trolling, flaming, etc.
I've seen plenty of whining and bitching threads, but most are very constructive and well thought out arguments (for the most parts).
I'm sure Hamma and PSU co. want this site to grow and grow even more popular as PS2 is released, but on the other hand I hope it doesn't get too out of control. The more mainstream something get the more it's general quality deteriorates (spoken like a true hipster).
You weigh having a huge popular community, full of idiots and a smaller tighter community full of (for the most part) intelligent and coherent individuals that can actually discuss the game hand in hand.

Thanks All!
We have always had a pretty lax moderation style here as well so we don't delete to many threads or ban to many folks. Even with that the community is still pretty solid. :)
There will always be an us vs them mentality with PSU and Official Forums - that stuff is just the nature of online communities. I don't foresee that PSU will become like Official Forums at all.
Actually PS did attract older than average players , probable the cooperation needed , and the cr@p gfx kept any sprogs away .
PS2 will attract the kids , and the forums will see few of them too , but us vets have the advantage that our outfits are still around , and thus we can minimise the pain .
So yes , here's to the community :)
DeeTwoEh , is that you ? Have you been ill ?
Not being a tw@t , I am trying to be polite before I offer advice .

I was referring to the "Diversity or Deception" thread (http://www.planetside-universe.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39128) that Warborn and I derailed with our talk of pork-sword fights.
I like to think that I engage in conversation in topics where I find an interest for whatever reason. But I don't suffer fools lightly and as a result when someone steps into my three-metre kill zone I tend to go off. I think the world would be a better place if we all just stopped and stared at the people making a big fuss about stupid shit, and then interrupted them with a "STFU" to the face. So much turmoil with talking heads running their mouth... case in point, Rush Limbaugh and the Slut/Prostitute controversy - someone tell that fucker to shut up, lately? There are a number of times where I've hovered over the reply button but ultimately refrained. Getting soft in my old age. I will never be a politician-type poster or the guy cut out for civil discourse at a dinner table with idiots. You can always rely on me to fan the flames by jumping in with both boots aimed squarely at some shit-talking cocksucker's jaw. I try not to be the guy starting it, just the guy returning fire. Which doesn't make it any better, mind you. Just as complicit as the rest.

Planetside was a great game only played by a hand full of people and wasn't well known. I guess PS was more likely to reach the eye of the people who were more grown up, and not the immature.

yeah, this community is great! such an amazing amount of constructive ideas that pop up here on a daily basis.
no wonder higby mentioned that the best part of developing ps2 is the interaction with us!
there sure is a lot of whining and strong emotions like in any other community, but unlike some other forums you can brainfilter the insults and there is still a lot of stuff left!
the kids will most likely go to official forums to troll there.
if they try it here, they will lose interest very fast due to no answers at all, or even due to stepping into fireflys killradius ;)
i will stick to this forums and ignore the official forums (except for the beta of course). everything we need to know will pop up here very fast. so i see no reason to go to the officials.

I've been trying to leave these forums ever since I first posted in the Betakey thread. I've been lurking for years and I really enjoy this community, however I am not looking forward to the inevitable influx of children and idiots that will come here when release is here. I think when that happens I will return to lurking so at the moment I am just enjoying the calm before the storm.
I think firefly will pop a brain vessel when he see what he will deal with in the near future.
The picture? God no.
Haha , thank the lord for that mate :)
Sorry for the unintended slur sir .
Double post alert ....
Does anyone have a rough idea of how many PS1 outfits are represented on this forum ?
Might seem unrelated , but it gives some measure of coherency .

Simply put: the community is what made planetside 1 as good as it was. PSU has been around since the beginning and even when the game slowed down they didn't. You have to give them credit.

<3 psu and it has always been a good solid forum.
I'm a very opinionated person and used to be a very large forum whore/troll, I've found that getting older has caused me to sometimes pause before replying to certain people/threads generally mutter to myself that i have better things to do with my time.
Also my outfit leader asked me 5 years ago to wind it in, so i did.
I think that even with the initial mass take up of PS2 these forums will generally resist immature youth and major stupidity pretty quickly.
