Does bullet attack power drop at longer ranges affect Vanu weapons more than other factions?

I don't think so. It would be stupid and unbalanced to implement that.
From the PCG article VS weapons will be balanced by having high recoil but they are immensely accurate in single shot and no need to compensate for bullet drop.

My understanding is that the Vanu will have the best weapons for long range combat. As for degredation, we will have to wait for Beta to see.

I didn't understand that bit well. Read the article but I'm not entirely certain how to read the chart they had in regards to recoil and such.

I'd bet all the factions will have equal distance to damage ratios.
But I doubt they will bother with bullet velocity to distance.

It took me a minute or two to figure out but going from outside to middle the rings mean:
-Ammo Type
-Damage Per Shot
-Recoil
-Accuracy
With the wider/redder the line the higher the value.

Yup. So of the three factions, they have the highest accuracy and worst recoil.

Didn't the middle guy in the weapons webcast say they had the lowest damage degradation at range?

yup. good single shots, probably good indoors too.

That'd be pretty awesome.
If they have the highest accuracy but highest recoil, we need a semi-automatic sidegrade ASAP.

The individual modes will most likely just be sidegrades to assault rifles.

I don't think that's quite right. I'm pretty sure that having a "high recoil" means the VS get a value rating of "High," not that the recoil itself is high. And based on past comments I'm also fairly certain that VS weapons will suffer from damage degradation over distance more than the NC/TR will. This is supported by this Planetside2.com article on the VS (http://www.planetside2.com/news/nov22empirebriefVS), where they state:
The Beamer is extremely accurate and produces little to no recoil. All V.S. weapons benefit from the lack of a concussive round. The draw back to having this high accuracy is the degradation of potency over distance. While conventional weapons have bullet drop, V.S. weapons suffer from a reduction in power over distance traveled.
I would really like to get some sort of confirmation on that, though.
I posted this elsewhere but it merits repeating. I think the High/Medium/Low stats on that PC Gamer graph are values that signify quality/desirability ratings. So to make it a little more clear, let's replace the color codes with grades A/B/C (I added degradation as well based on what we know):
VS
Accuracy = A
Recoil (Burst Fire) = A
Recoil (Sustained/continuous fire) = A
Rate of Fire = B
Damage Per Shot = B
Damage over Range (Degradation) = C
TR
Accuracy = B
Recoil (Burst Fire) = A
Recoil (Sustained/continuous fire) = C
Rate of Fire = A
Damage Per Shot = C
Damage over Range (Degradation) = B
NC
Accuracy = B
Recoil (Burst Fire) = C
Recoil (Sustained/continuous fire) = A
Rate of Fire = C
Damage Per Shot = A
Damage over Range (Degradation) = B

^^^^^awesome post Erendil
I have the mag and saw the chart and your post above breaks it down really nice.

@erendil your breakdown of the weapon systems might just be better than the one in the mag. Good job.

What's confusing is how it is described in the PC gamer article:
"I could rack up an easy kill at medium range by stamping Mouse 1 with my New Conglomerate Gauss Rifle, but after about two seconds my ironsights would hiccup 45 degrees and I'd be completely off-target."
Maybe this effect is more profound on TR? Maybe he got it mixed up?

If this has even a slightly tenuous relationship with in-game reality, then based on my personal preferences and my personal playstyle, VS FOR ME!!!
It makes sense that Vanu weapons would degrade worst over distance. Their "thing" is straight line firing so how do you balance that? Lasers don't drop... they disperse.
Should they have very very weak aoes at 2km range???

Thanks guys! I'm glad to hear my attempt at presenting the data from that cryptic PCG graph in a somewhat more readable form was successful! :cool:

I think the NC weapons will be more accurate than TR equivalents when firing single shots, but their large recoil means they quickly lose control even after a short burst (2-4 rounds). However, maybe their slower RoF means that after the first few rounds the recoil doesn't get too much worse so it's collective effects during continuous fire slowly tapers off.
OTOH, the TR's lighter rounds mean that a short burst isn't much worse than single shots, but the high RoF means the recoil gets collectively worse over time the more bullets that are continuously fired, to the point that they're less accurate than the NC couterparts as you get closer to emptying your clip.
At least, that's one possible explanation anyway... :p

sound all sounds reminiscent of current ps1 ... ofc balance is all and beta for that.

Yeah, they fire plasma. But still....
