Bioluminescence (please!)

Seeing some of the new shots of the interesting looking trees, and considering some of the nighttime footage of how stations are lit we have seen so far have got me thinking.

I started thinking how amazing it would be if there were certain areas or continents that were lit up with bioluminescence, not unlike the scenes in Avatar at night. Some areas maybe just a lone tree with glowing fruit, some others maybe almost as bright as the daytime. I'm trying to think of some tactical reasons to put it in there but to be honest I just think it would look amazing. Perhaps this is something we may see in the future? :)

I think it would be great if there was a few alien landscapes on Auraxis. What if this glowing continent was always dark? Like permanent cloud cover or something, which is why all these glowing plants exist. I think perpetual night fighting would be great. :D

I think perpetual night fighting would be great. :DA continent with heavy cloud cover with occasional clear skies the way that most would be clear skies with occasional storms, plus lots of bioluminescent flora. That would definately nail the "alien landscape" vibe.

This thing just went too far over the top. As long as they dont go overboard, glowing flora would be awesome at night.

I was playing Skyrim just 5 minutes ago, and I was exploring a huge cave named Blackreach for the first time, which is lit by giant luminescent mushrooms, and it just looks fantastic.

As seen in the skyrim post, bioluminescence is awesome. Higby mentioned creating more planets, and I'm pretty sure a jungle planet idea was thrown out.

actually I really like this idea too, I do cave scuba diving sometimes which is great fun but what really makes it amazing is when you're in the cave at night we wave the under water flash lights around for awhile then switch them all off and watch all the bio luminescence plants light up the place. They don't give off bright light just a gentle back glow

At regular intervals (after an appropriate amount of You can't beat me! and Not likely! from both sides) rave music would start playing. Everyone would equip their glowsticks and start /em cabbagepatching, the winner is the side that cabbagepatches the hardest! But instead of winning resources or territory the victors would win the ability to use the FABULOUS!! voice macro.

the trees we saw on the first gdc screenshots could easily sport bioluminescence! they got that avatar-like genitalia hanging down. and if a soldier does too much cabbagepatching underneath with glowsticks he is in danger of getting raped by the tree because the trees just don´t know that a "v" is not a "p".

it would look amazing if those hanging blossoms in some trees would emitt some light at night!

maybe even give it some influence on gameplay like the crystals in the caves in ps1. a tree with green light projects a healingfield, a tree with red light projects a painfield. would even give some new aspects to approach-tactics. i´m just talking about some trees, not about every single plant in the forest. just a few "mature" trees that stand in full blossom. or even a dynamic situation where some random trees start to bloom for just one night.
