It looks like the game has been sped up in a lot of ways. The TTK on some of those tanks seemed really quick.

Also, the inside of the biolab looks like a biodome. Very cool.

Some of the things that I notice.
-The First Kill on that Magrider seemed very quick.Not sure if it was a bunch of reavers spamming it or not.
-Night time looks perfect.
-Took longer to kill other Magriders
-It looks like the Killcam shows where you are.
-The effects on explosions look really great.
-Don't know if they are still hiding the UI or not.It was lacking when Matt was Infantry
-Doesn't appear to be a start up time for entering vehicles.
-The map is just a solid blue no more colors really.(Just a demo still though it can be changed hopefully)
-Appears to be Rocks in the Biolab?
-Nice demonstration of hover left and right and of the afterburners.
EDIT:Did not watch part 2 yet.

So its looking like were going to get a crosshair confirmation on hits on target. Cool, I like this concept.

It looks like reaver/mossys/ and the sycthe are going to have an easier time getting kills now, thank god.

It looks like day/night cycle is going to be AWESOME

It looks like they did away with the aircraft sliding left and right mechanic, thank you PLANETSIDE GODS!

Reaver rockets and explosions look SICK.

I can ALREADY tell mag secondary gunners are going to have a blast.

The bases look FANTASTIC.

I am impressed so far. Hope we get the rest of the parts some time tonight, or maybe the full version so I can just download it to show it to people.

Part 2
-Magrides can float really high.Unless that one jumped off a hill.
-You might take fall damage.Not sure if Matt was shot or hit during his bail out.
-TTK on infantry seems very short.
-Still can run over people =D
-Jetpacks seem to go as high as the VS max from PS1
-Vanguard had the same camo as a TR soldier had in a picture.
-Looking over it again there is alot of blue in the game.A whole lot.Menus sky backgrouds,VS weapon fire etc.

The night time fighting looks absolutely astounding.

From what I have seen so far. I feel like they have completely nailed it. This is the game we all want for nearly all points of interest.

I liked the apparent infantry TTK from the little snip in the second part. But the gauss, at least, seems a bit floaty. The recoil looked less recoil-based and more cof/spread based, which I don't particularly like...but I can live with it.

Errr... Mag gone all UFO on us. Personally, in lieu of my vanu max, I'll take a jumpjet magrider. Not OP in the least.:D

This all looks pretty great, the only thing I don't like is how much dust appears to be everywhere; I hope this is just because this is Indar, and they had a dust storm going, but that really detracted from the beauty of everything else IMHO...

Its not a bug, you can CLEARLY see that its intentionally lifted as there is heat waves coming from under it.

Urm, I guess you didn't play PS1, but Mag's always float (as you can see from the other mag in the shot), and they always have that wave distortion under them; the question is whether or not that mag is intentionally floating that high...

I'd guess it must be intentional; because I'd think if it wasn't they wouldn't have driven directly in front of higby's toon while bugged... Or maybe that was the cause of the 'technical difficulties' which abruptly followed; conspiracies abound!

Was watching part 1 just now and when he is in the reaver at the end (6:59) He catches a single round from a magrider and lost about 1/3 of his armor. Good indication of damage values there.

This was not intended, remember we're still in Alpha. The Magrider is a hover vehicle, not an aircraft. :P

crap now i have to wait again. Looks great sofar. Loved the little moment in part 3 where a mosquito is chasing a reaver and fires his AA missiles, hitting the reaver. All while higby was fighting on the ground. It's moments like that that made ps1 memorable. Epic :)

part 3 is effing amazing.

The base fight is freaking crazy. It has that exact planetside feel but is so much more better and firing on every piston.

Pushing along the side route, opening up a new vantage point. When higby jumped onto the roof I freakin was yelling at him to watch the flank and hit them from the high ground.

I honestly felt like I was in a PS 1 battle....but so much more so. And I was just watching.

COD and MW can go suck it

The only slight worry the videos give me so far is the telltale signs of lag - jerky physics, flickering etc - but to be fair I'm doing so much fapping perhaps the effects are exaggerated.

I'll admit, I had my worries. But when this hits.. they could make Battlefield 4 and give it away for free and I prolly wouldn't even bother. I'm very impressed with the work they've done so far. Just gotta wait til beta and see how it scales with all the players. :cool:

all I know is the ground combat looks amazing. I love how TR had to be signaled to let them move up & cap ha ha My TR boyz already are beast (jk)

I love the mobile spawn vehicles and spawn on SL function if he specs it etc.. brings so much immersion and teamplay to this game.

This beta cannot start soon enough seriously.

Watch the arch-way of the door as he says "i got teamkilled again". The reviving medic, pinkypoo, comes in there.

Also... hex grid map shot seems to indicate there are ~60 outposts / facilities to cap per cont.

Everything ive seen so far i am crying 20 dollar bills straight out of my eyes.

im loving it!

the only two things so far that i wont miss at all if they remove would be:

the kill cam - it takes away from the tempo of the game, again its alpha i know, but PS2 can do without one, its a complicated crutch, not a feature of necessity

the xp point in middle of screen - anyway that can be disabled?

Mr. Higby, I think you underestimate what you've showed us. Me in particular because I've never been exposed to an MMOFPS before and seeing a tank line marching up and storming an enemy base that is completely unscripted is just breathtaking to someone like me.

I had to show this to more people.

Looking good. Sounds like he said the physx engine was used for vehicle mechanics. Still wondering about that GPU vs CPU based and whether or not to go with ATI/AMD or Nvidia. This game is going to rock sox.

Playing beta is going to actually better then playing the final game for many of us. That's because we get to help create the game as well as play it. So how about a long beta with lots of feedback.

Poor Higby, probably had everything orchestrated so beautifully in his mind, then a few technical difficulties, some bugs, and generally a few things not going quite right got in the way. For example the base capture progress. Just remember Higby, WE LOVE YOU ANYWAY AND WE ALL THOUGHT IT WAS AWESOME REGARDLESS! Keep up the good work, keep dreaming those dreams =D

Kinda disappointed there was not shown hacking. I understand it wasnt appropriate for press demo, but it felt that base was taken abruptly.

And light assault with ammo recharger? I hoped for something different for restocking ammo.

Its nice to finally have some recorded gameplay. If we had a direct screen recording, I think this would have been even more impressive.

Some of the player movement animations looked clunky but for an alpha this looks outstanding. This answered so many questions about the map, player progression, and the store.

The website showing player stats looks nice but I never really cared about that in BF3. Having the PS2 website showing the current state of the game map should be quite useful. I like that XML feeds will be available. PS2 related phone apps!

It would also help if you had stuff related to clans on the PS2 website. Anything to help organize and get clan members moving in the same direction.

Awesome demonstration! Seeing the 4 Vanguards roll made me really giddy, now imagine 20...

Infantry combat looks ace, back in my short time in PS1 it was one of the weak parts of the game imho, now it looks like it could actually be one of the coolest parts. In Video 3, when Highby was firing out of that building, along his mates, i thought "Damn, right there is a perfect situation for a leaning mechanism!" It would have allowed him to shoot next to his mate, without having to strafe into the center of the doorframe, exposing too much of his body to enemy fire.

All the little bugs, and the obviously WIP netcode make me think beta is further ahead than many here were speculating. But damn, it will be worth the wait! :D

my hunch: After seeing these videos I think we'll have to wait for beta a bit longer. Seems to me there are still to many bugs in the physics/engine/animation and so on. Dont get me wrong, i absolutely like what i'm seeing. But i did notice shaky/floating vehicles/soldiers and some pop-ups etc.

The risk with these kind of bugs in open beta is that they might scare people off. Because most people that play an MMO-beta forget that they're actually playing an unfinished, w.i.p. game. And thus they are less forgiving than a more open-minded ps1-vet.

Also it seems like sidegrades can actually be purchased using station cash. I hope it's not like Tribes: Ascend where it takes forfuckingever to unlock even one class. Then again I haven't played since closed beta so they may have adjusted the rates to be somewhat more reasonable.

I was a little curious about the customization options for the clans and also voice communication options. No mention of any sand box features.

Certainly the presentation more then exceeded my expectations which were sky high anyway.

Must study the store a bit more. What can we buy exactly?? I hope our clan can get its own base. We would pay for that.

Finally done watching (and rewatching)! I think the thing that impressed me the most is the PlanetSide 'feel' that it has. The tank column at the end reminded me of a classic PS1 battle. Only now everything seems bigger and more real. o.O

Can you even select certain loadouts if you don't have appropriate resources to "purchase" the loadout when you spawn?

Do you spawn with inferior versions of the guns if you can't afford the resources?

Are resources shared between your entire empire? Or do you gain resources personally?

Once you buy gun X, do you own it forever to use in your loadouts, or do you have to rebuy it after an amount of time?

If your empire owns no territory/resources, how are you supposed to purchase the guns? Are you forced to buy them with real cash your empire has 0 resources left?

Once you buy a gun, you can always get it. That is not related to the 'resource' pool that he's referring to when talking about capturing hexes. You get guns (and side-grades) by buying them or using XP to unlock them, and once you do, they are yours whenever you want them...

You have access to every gun, armor type, and vehicle right from the start. And the notion of an "inferior" weapon is something the dev team is trying hard to stay away from. Also, once you unlock a sidegrade, you have it forever. You pay for it once, and every time after that it's free.

As to the resources, I'm unsure about empire vs. individual but I noticed in some of the stats screens that the characters had some amount of 4 different types of resources.

I really just think that while higs was hiding and talking, and then getting ammo that they took it. He DID tell them to let them push up and take it, so I am guessing someone got in there long enough to capture it.

im loving it!

the only two things so far that i wont miss at all if they remove would be:

the kill cam - it takes away from the tempo of the game, again its alpha i know, but PS2 can do without one, its a complicated crutch, not a feature of necessity

the xp point in middle of screen - anyway that can be disabled?

Agreed, the kill cam was distracting to me. Especially when the medic revived higby while the cam followed the team killer. Hope it can be disabled if it stays.

It is looking incredible! All of the combat looks gorgeous. I feel I'm being pulled to play for NC this time around though. The vanguard and Reaver are hot.

Did anyone catch how the base was captured? Was there a hack or was it having a lot more NC in the area than TR kind of like BF capture points? If you watch the "bonus footage" video above, in the upper right corner there is a circle that fills up with red and then it says "facility lost." That is what made me wonder if capturing a base is similar to a BF conquest capture point.

All of it's pretty great. The flying Mag reminded me of some old Planetside 1 beta footage or something very early with a floating Harasser. So pumped.

Edit: Also, the tech plant at the beginning is called Hvar. I like familiar names.

after seeing this, i am blown away... what amazed me the most is how smooth the aircraft took off instead of how it was in the original where it had the clunky take off. Higby and the planetside 2 team, you guys rock seriously. I could not begin to imagine how the final game is going to look when this is just an alpha phase. Also on a side note after seeing the game play, im even more against quick knifing because I could see several opportunities that it could have been abused. Other then that the game looks f***ing amazing.

2. No specific vehicle entry points or startup timer. Jumping out of a plane with no real penalty.
3. Using the worst possible killcam.

1. The rest of it. Seriously pretty much everything looks awesome. Hell night is probably the thing that dissapointed me the most and that looks freaking fantastic, I just wish it was a little darker.

I noticed one thing in the first video, when Higby's aircraft took damage after a little while the vehicle health seemed to regenerate. Was wondering if that was just his dev powers or a part of the game. I don't really like it in BF3 since it encourages running away constantly like a wuss. Not sure how others feel about this.

Yea, the night definitely wasn't dark enough in my opinion. It was too blue and they need to make it so it gets a lot harder to see people and vehicles, I did like the way the gunfire and explosions lit up what darkness there was though.

With the kill cam you kind of miss your own death. Camera should show your own death BUT the camera has to snap to the direction of the killer. I really hate it when there is no way to know who killed you.

Should have the name of the killer on the screen for sure.

Very disappointed with the videos. They showed some of the minor things I was interested in, but glossed over the major issues I have. The big changes you've made. Namely infantry combat.



Nothing about how rezing works. How much a player can rez, how quick it is.

How does this 'resupply' thing work? Does it just sit on the ground giving tons of ammo for a set period of time?

Why was he able to respawn on the squad leader INSIDE the base? I thought (And I hope to hell) they were unspawnable on within a bases SOI. I'm guessing (And hoping) that you just haven't gotten in the drop pod's for spawning yet.



The impression I got from this footage is infantry combat is BF2-3 copy pasted, and that is NOT a good thing. I'm hoping that by the time beta comes around it isn't... if nothing else, spawning on a squad leader MUST not be viable inside a base, or in it's courtyard, or it's just going to be BF3 all over again.

I don't know why the game needs a kill cam. In the original PS you had to figure it out yourself and guess the probable place the enemy was. If you could easily figure that out with a little playtime in the first game why does that info need to be spoon fed to people who couldnt be bothered with situational awareness. The only other reason I can think of for that to add it is to get rid of the whiny 8 year olds who cry hacker every time they die.

I liked the original death cam. The spinning view of your corpse after you died.

nothing can be perfect, but what we saw was quite enough to get people talking about the game, and to have other companies to step their game up if they want to run the MMOFPS gauntlet.

you guys, as far as exposure and acknowledgement goes, are the reigning champs. and your showing what it takes to be called a MMOFPS.

The major issues, you say? These are fairly nitpicky concerns - important, sure, but not fundamental. If you're giving a game its first public airing you're not going to foreground the finer details of gameplay, you're going to want to give the big picture.

going to agree. either use the PS1 death cam or one where you get shown your killers name, outfit, battle rank, empire, maybe class, and a picture of his/her head after you respawn. only other one i'd agree too

other than that besides seeing some quirky graphic issues and so forth, i found the footage to be pretty good. game wise like above fix the kill cam or remove and game needs more ground vehicle variety still. also would like to see more about the prowler and vanguard's secondary weapons.. unless i missed them

The only thing which irked me a bit was that kill-cam(6~7 seconds), but from what I saw they shouldn't be of much concern as you guys talked about.
Do I want it to be removed? Yes.
Do I think it will affect my performance and gameplay that badly? No. Well, maybe noobz would say Yes to this question....who knows..

I hope we have an option to customize the UI. I can easily see the screen getting clutter up with names and all the markers above people with hundreds of people. I'd like the choice to only see other player names when they are a certain radius around the center target mark. The option to hide who killed who on the left should be hide-able too hopefully.

Don't forget weather. What we saw in the footage was a clear night, clear nights give tonnes of illumination from the moon and stars. I expect an overcast or wet night to be much, much darker.

Not sure about the dust though, seems like there is fog or dust everywhere unless it was a storm of some kind.. think that would take away from the overall beauty of detail in the game.

Lag looks like a bit of an issue, but again this is still alpha and I’m really happy with what I see, can’t wait to play it!

I think the fog is to make it look less stupid when your view is cut off beyond 1000m or whatever. Gradual fade to opacity looks more immersive than sudden cutoff of view, like a curtain fall in the distance.

As a plus, I noticed the ADAD speed of the lightest assault guys was not entirely stupid. I imagine that it will be even slower and MORE realistic for the heavier classes.

Man, I just had a flashback to almost 10 years ago when Knightwyvern ran into my room and told me that he'd just played some game his friend had gotten that was like Halo but also an MMO.

Years of awesome gaming began, followed by PSUMA where I got to meet Hamma and co and the PlanetSide devs.

Looking forward to playing Round 2!

How is it any different then any other modern shooter? Its about the same as BF3 which is perfect.

I would think that the bubbles are only shown over the heads of enemies that have been spotted via some command function. So cloakers won't have too much of an issue with that seeing as how if they're spotted they're dead anyways. Moreover I'm sure the marker only lasts for a few seconds before it disappears.

The game does look great guys and I'm extremely proud of you.

If I had to make any suggestions I'd recommend taking out the Killcam.
Increasing the TTK(this isn't like MW3/BF3).
Elaborate more on how squad spawning works.

Really coming along and I just HOPE.... HOPE! Beta is right around the corner. It'd be awesome to see people start getting in soon.

PS: Oh, and make sure the heavy assault class still wrecks these silly light assault people at close range. That'll quell the anti-BF3 combat folks.

All of Higby's sudden deaths appeared to be down to Heavy Assault enemies, so I'm guessing yes. They were much faster TTKs than the other guys where he was taking quite a bit of fire without problem.

I'll be honest, part 3 made me cry with joy. The vanguards were beautiful, the combat was beautiful, speed wise and visually. I love the clouds of dust that get kicked up when you fire.:drools::drools::drools::drools::drools:

Onto the main points, things that I saw that bothered me:
1) Other faction weapons in the shop?
2) Kill cam; it feels bandwagon-eey and the implementation is clunky (excusable in alpha)

The things that I saw that filled me with joy:
1) Flight
2) Rockets
3) epic landscape
4) Plasma cannon
5) Clouds casting shadows
6) all of the dynamic lights are wonderful
7) all of the little cap's
8) MY PRECIOUS MAGRIDER!
9) the speed of combat seems pleasing and modern
10) and did I mention the landscape?
11) Most importantly the look of combined ops
12) Projectiles looking like projectiles (speed and movement) , rather than the flaming pigeons of PS1

I am very happy right now. BTW during part 2 at 1:05 and the right side of the screen a foot soldier fires an AV weapon. Is that the fission???

Only things I did see I didn't like was.
1.The Killcam is BF3.Not good.
2.Too much Blue.Ie Menu,Map,UI,Vanu Weapons,Moonlight Night etc.
3.No Startup timer.Just a hop on in when a guy shoots you down to 1 hp.


Other than that I am pleased with everything else.I didn't expect a perfect game this early.Tank battles are gonna be epic along with infantry battles.The battlefield looks awesome.Just pure Planetside Porn.

All great..the only think i dont like so far is the kill cam and daily stats or whatever in the vehicle UI.

Get rid of K/D Info..remember back in PS-1 when stats where introduced, nobody wanted to rush a backdoor anymore because it could hurt their K/D.

Precisely, without killcam how will they know I wiped my boots on their corpse after I killed them? Or with this taunt tab... Whatever the devs have in mind. As much as I hate having to look at someone abuse my corpse I thoroughly enjoy using killcam to abuse my enemy's corpses too. Let's all be honest here, some of the funniest moments we've all had in gaming have come because of killcams.

In fact, I just reminded myself of a video I have over on Bungie from a loong time ago now. If it weren't for killcams this kind of thing wouldn't happen!

AMAZING. Even wit the temporary Alpha particle effects & sound, it was still awesome. When it was nighttime and you saw VS tanks shooting plasma across the battle and it splashing down on his enemies it was seriously ultra epic.

Most of the objections people are having are nitpicky type stuff that will most likely be changed or altered in the future. Instead of jumping to conclusions, remember it's ALPHA.

TTK In this build is pretty good. It's higher than BF3/COD is right now but not too long that you feel you are versing a boss in some RPG game. Perhaps it could be slightly increased very slightly. If it's too high it would take away from the realism of fighting a person on a battlefield.

I played PS1 for about a month during a free trial (I was like 13 at the time on my dads comptuer), and one thing that pissed me off was the generic look and feel of every base and landscape. Just from these short videos the landscape looks very handcrafted and the bases look absolutely amazing both inside and out.

I suggested on the forums a few weeks ago about having different type of outposts that make your side change strategies a bit like one that's in water so you must focus heavily on air power to drop troops. It appears from Higbys commentary that they are doing similar things.

I am an extremely jaded gamer and am usually one to recognize the signs of a game not meeting my fundamental expectations. I focus mainly on fundamental gameplay mechanics, not fluff or "storytelling" or graphics. After all if the main gameplay isn't there, everything else is irrelevant. PS2 pleasantly surprised me today :).

Since I was 12 years old Ive been developing an MMO idea in my mind that is exactly like PS2. Except in my case not only is there land, infantry and air combat but there is space fleets that players can pilot and instead of taking over continents there would be like 12 planets and the fleet of one faction would have to jump in, duke it out with the enemy fleet and then land down on the planet etc. Anyways I'm ranting.

Need new underwear.. And computer.

First off love what I am seeing! Just to see it in motion finally is great, even in Alpha with all the noticeable bugs. The only bug that obviously has to be dealt with is the jerky motion, tank driving footage being the best example. I expect it is on the list.

I am just really happy to see video of PS2. I always loved tactics in PS1. Which makes the light assault look like a lot of fun with jump packs. Was very sad to hear about VS max losing this ability, but seeing it on infantry dulls that pain a little.

I think it should be gone though, Planetside is/was a tactical game. If you don't know where you got hit from, that is your fault. Don't punish me for killing someone by giving away my position with Killcam. Not to mention how does that work with cloakers and or mines.

Killcam showing your corpse is fine, or even a quick replay of how you died. The later seems like a little much though. If it shows your corpse and then you get information on the screen of who/what killed you that is the way to go IMO.

I also somewhat against showing in chat of who kills who with whatever weapon. This was in PS1 and gives you a tactical advantage if you know what to watch for. Certain weapons would give cloakers away and the like. I lived with it in PS1 and used it, so it certainly is no game breaker.

I can tell from the video that it is certainly further off than I'd like, but just happy to see how good it looks in Alpha.

Night, I agree that I hope there are nights and/or areas where it is darker so night scopes and the like are more useful. Other than that I loved seeing the lighting during the night battles.

I could go on forever...

Keep up the good work. As of now, even after footage (this is a good thing), it still looks like you have a great chance to make the game you have been talking about! A game that we all desperately want.

Oh man! Tears of joy in my eyes watching the air/land fighting in the first part. Imagine this with hundreds of us playing, just mind-blowing. The base fighting is light years ahead of PS1 and looks easily a match for CoD/BF.

And so, so very gorgeous. T-Ray is truly a master of his craft and his team has produced one of the most beautiful games you will ever see, bar none!

I am a little worried about the Herky Jerky movements. I mean they said they only had 50 players on. IS it going to compound when there are 500? 1000? I saw thesesame movements in PS1 and it REALLY kills immersion. I hated this in ARMA (though they ahve now fixed it there).

I was hoping to have some kind of cockpit view in the air craft. Thats always immersive. I hope Higby and team support track IR as well.

The GFX LOOKED AMAZING.

Overall it looks like they are copying a lot of UI from BF3. Which isnt really a bad thing. I just hope they excell where BF3 sucks. Looks like they are on track for late year 2012, or early 2013.

Yeah. There were clear signs of lagging, pop-ups, jerky movements. But bear in mind that they said they're in very early phase of optimization.

First time poster here, had to post after seeing those videos.

The game is looking spectacular so far! Better than a fair number of betas do. Love the air combat, Love the art and scenery, everything is gorgeous. The biosphere is the first video started to ooohhing and aaahhhing and it didn't stop for the rest of the time. The tightly packed courtyards looked amazing and made for excellent contrast to the much more open outdoors areas. And the verticality needs some major recognition. I think I saw troops fighting on 4 separate levels during the videos, ON THE SAME SCREEN!! The inner courtyards looks like they will be some incredibly fun clusterfucks in a major assault.

The tank section looked like a cutscene. Completely blew my mind. The top of the canyon walls looked like the perfect place for infantry to fight and to rain fire down on the vehicles below from the edges. I love the lethality of the weapons too. The ttk is perfect in my opinion. And it looked like there was a noticeable difference between a Heavy assault's and a Light assault's survivability. I also like how many of the enemy don't have markers floating above their heads. It seemed like those that did had been spotted. I also loved how they dissapeared when behind walls so you don't have telepathy like in BC2

Some things that I think should be changed, removed, or made optional are the following

-NO KILL CAM!
-make nighttime darker, it seemed far too light. It looks gorgeous but needs to have a greater difference from the day time.
-PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make it an option to hide the +10s and +75s that pop up in the middle of the screen. Its one thing that I despise about recent shooters.
-make the red enemy/blue friendly indicator smaller and a little less intrusive. -make the red enemy dissapear when they die. Its a little hard to see the enemy
-The spawn time has to be longer. Make killing a little more meaningful than 5 seconds down. 15-25 I feel is more appropriate, especially with a galaxy turned ams 10 meters away from the base. I am, however, assuming that the respawn timer was altered to give more gameplay footage.

To finish it off, here are a couple ideas of things to add.
-give the galaxy a more visual indicator when its deployed. Give it a couple claws or legs like seen on the biosphere that anchor it to the ground. maybe retract the wheels too when this happens.
-maybe adjust the indicators. Friendlies have names and status' like we saw in the videos only. When a friendly dies, but is still revive-able they get the blue indicator seen in the video.

Well, that is just simply amazing. I mean, the game would be a hit even if they put it available just as it is now in alpha state lol.

My only real concern was the jerky movements, but I have no doubts that can/will still be worked on. Not liking killcam or quick knife (especially when 90% of PSU voted against both :D), but lets QQ hard enough in beta to at least make both features manageable :D

I got a bit worried when the first Magrider blew up to a single salvo, but the others seemed stronger, so I suppose it just wasnt full health. Flight + tank + infantry combat all looked really nice. I was just wondering why was everyone using the carbines and not the full size rifles? Higgles was normal Light Assault (as in not engi or medic) and even he was using the carbine? The ammo box was a bit meh, would hope for perhaps something more like the.. Aegis Shield Generator kind of thing.

Overall the game looked stunningly good and now I need a new monitor cos my monitor didnt like me throwing money at it :D

As for the TTK, it seemed suitable for a game like this. I come from "1 shot and goner" damage model shooters mostly, but I realize it won't really work here.

Also seemed the Vanguard finally got the secondary gunners weapon on top of it finally?

Felt like the game didn't give you enough feedback to why you died, it just felt very instant and like what the hell happened? Would love to see how you died like COD.

As a PS1 Vet I can say I without a doubt I liked what I saw in today's demo. For me it put to rest the majority of my concerns about the "game's feel" and using sights/shoulder fired rifles. I have evidence that the Dev team is on the right track now and I'm happy.

What still bothers me is resource collecting/spending. I saw the 4 types in the demo, which are give or take are:

blue spiral (only one we saw in use, for buying weapons)
green pill
red circle
yellow "screwattack"
What are their real name BTW?

In the PSU version/clips of the demo, in video 4 at the start, you see what I'm assuming are the income amounts ie. +36 +360 +360 +672 respectively for the colors. What I am wondering is how will these be divided up in terms of gameplay? Will the low income blue spiral be for buying store items only, or does another resource get used in other categories (ie maybe green buys armor skins rather then blue)? As a follow up to that question, which resource is used to buy grenades or spawn vehicles with advanced loadouts, because I don't think it would be fun to feel like throwing a grenade impacts my saving, or not saving for an unlockable item. I feel like having resources be important is a good thing and will add to the game in the long run, but making the income and costs reasonable for said resources will be critical. I know that if they are overly restricted or limiting I am likely to just default to the mindset of "I can't use grenades (or insert X) because I need to save it for a 'better' time", ie Too Awesome To Use (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TooAwesomeToUse)(warning tvTropes ahead) and that would be a shame in Planetside 2.

PS1 came out before its time in many ways. Its biggest downfall was coming out when the internet was underdeveloped and not just in the way of bandwidth and server technology.

The power that was given to the word of mouth through the internet wasn't fully developed yet. Now we live in an age of facebook, networks of friends, youtube, etc. If something is good, we will generally know about it.

Let's just say that now, being a hipster is hard.

I don't see why there couldn't be a Cert/upgrade in the 'talent tree' for infiltrators that would block killcam from showing their details like weapon used, and on top of it just make it game wide that any infiltrator kill just shows the player's dead body rather then the cloaker? Solved the issue. If you are a skilled cloaker they don't get to know your BR rank or weapon etc, and if you are a cloaker period they don't get to see you, just themselves dead. Also Mines and Combat Engy stuff just shows the mine/boomer/etc that killed you, why would it show the player the used them? Seems like an easy change even if that was the case.

For every other battle I like the idea of seeing that those bullets that took my head off came of the BR 25 Heavy that was flanking me, or a cool shot of the aircraft flying away after they just blew me up etc.

Killcams can and are a good thing I'd say. They just need to be balanced and restricted in a FEW small cases.

but i think ppl dont really understand the purpose of the killcam they chose to use, i'm not a big fan of it but im not against it either.
the frontal cam of the enemy means that you wont allways know where the enemy actually is as opposed to the first person kill cam(cod style) wich tells you exactly where the enemy is.
for ex: you get shot by a sniper from the forest and you see the frontal view of him sitting next to a tree. you would need to know what every tree looks like or get lucky and see a landmark, otherwise you will still not know where he is. and if you can tell where he is then he is most likely where everyone can see him(on a base wall) or not hidden well enough(on crest of a mountain).

also: the ttk was mostly on light assault toons wich i think should die rather quickly ( not cod quick ) because well its a light assault class its not supposed to be able to take 5 clips and live. the heavyer classes will live longer, i'm sure of it.

and i dont understand the bf3 hating, i dont want ps2 to be bf3 but you cant deny that its a great game ( alltough limited compared to planetside ) but ps2 taking a few cue's from bf3 is not a horrendous thing imho. ( and i really like the knife system in bf3 < HINT HINT*)

the market screen makes me think they will have a similar F2P setup to tribes ascend ( ie. no paying = lvling VERY slowly, paying= normal progression) wich is ok in my book. and a F2P model will most likely make sure that the better, more invested player will allways have some low lvl cannon fodder to shoot at, and whats a warzone without some cannon fodder right? :D

in conclusion : they have to refresh what planetside is and what it stands for, cause if they just copy paste ps1 then this game WILL fail. and i think they are finding a reasonable balance between "out with some of the old, in with some of the new"
