Ok, I stands all I can stands and I cant stands no mores!!

Im sick of those dam windows instant messages, they pop up when Im in the middle of games and force my comp to minimize!

They arent part of MSN or any other chat service, nearest I can figure its some part of Windows XP.

Anyone got a solution to rid myself of them?

I tried running Ad-aware 6 but that didnt help.

Well first of all it is not a instant messaging system, it is called windows messaging system. It was designed for network admins, so that they could send out a message to users.

It is also called net send. *syntax* from a command prompt:

net send *ip address* *message*

ok know that we all know the history and how to piss each other off with it lets turn it off.

In windows xp or 2k right click on my comptuer and go to manage. When the system manager comes up, double click on services and applications. Next double click services in the right hand windows.

Now scroll down until you see Messenger. (NOT MSN) It will just say messenger. Now right click on it and go to properties, you will see Startup Type, in the drop down menu choose disabled.

Now you are good to go. No more bs..

If you still need more help you can see a screen shot of the windows I just described here. http://www.loboslanstation.com/temp/messengeroff.gif

umm... just take it off auto start up in the options, and then dont run it :p I mean if you dont like chat programs, why did you use it?
It does come with win xp, but dosnt install itself, somewhere along the road, you must have installed it (if you use the im explorer *the prety one* then yes it runs the msg prog as part of the browser.
And you can take the box pop up of in the options

Get trillian, it works wonders :D

MrVulcan, he's not talking about MSN Messenger I don't think. Like Cynicalscope said, I think he's talking about netsend. Some jackoff advertisers have started using it to send their ads with, They pop up just like an alert box.

As misled said it comes built into windows xp. (Once again I shall describe it) It is a system service that is used by network admins to send out messages to users of the network.

I suggest that you all turn it off, it is nothing but a pain in the ass.
