Should paying monthly subscribers should get priority in server & continent queues and why? From what I remember, PS1 did give priority to paying players when PS Reserves went active.

At a glance it sounds unfair, but hey, life isn't fair. It would be something that subscribers, or "premium" players should probably have.

Remember that "free" players could have spend more money in shop than subscribers. You need to put queue priority (higher) to shop too, to make it fair. Subscribers should have small bonus to it.
So in the end priority to get on continent:
Subscribers with shop priority
Shop priority
Subscribers
Others
With thousands of players per continent, I would hope we don't see queues too often.

While i appreciate what you're trying to say, i think that only subs should get queue priority.
More money for SoE for something that 'serious' players will probably use anyway.
I'm all for benefits for paid players, as long as it doesn't effect in game power.

If we want to have poplocked continents there will be queues as not all would want to go to another one.
Wasnt there reserves lower priority for vehicle terminals too?

Hopefully there won't be queue's but if there are I believe that subs should get priority. Right now based on the interviews I have seen Higby doesn't really know what he wants to have for the subscribers

reservist = scrub
How else would you get them to subscribe
Subscriber = baseline ensured revenue, which is a nice thing to have if your running a business. It makes a lot of sense to get as many people subscribed as possible

You have to make a premium account worth it if a person will pay as much as a standard p2p game for a game they can play just as well, for free. Priority in a queue would be just 1 of many things premium will need if it will be worth $15 a month.

Assuming there are queues, yes I think that's a great incentive to get people to subscribe for the game, while not totally fucking them over.

If you look at what SOE did when DCUO went f2p and had a huge bump in players, the paying players got pissed since they couldn't log into the game that they paid for while somebody else was able to get in for free. That makes sense. So I believe SOE arranged it so the subscribers were moved to the front of the line. I have a feeling PS2 will benefit from that lesson.

Indeed.
I intend to pay the sub (assuming the game deserves it, few hackers etc) because i want to support development of things that aren't WoW clones.

Yeah i to intend to sub but i definately want to see hardware bans for hackers and some sort of priority for pay to play customers.

I mentioned this somewhere else, it's REALLY needed.

Makes sense, but honestly they really, really need to avoid queues.

This makes sense but at the same time it almost defeats the purpose of free to play.

that´s something every f2p game with optional subscription does. so ps2 will feature it as well for sure.
if ps2 meets our expectations, it may happen that we get overrun by players and some servers may totally fill up. no matter how big the servers are! i think it´s possible to fill a server with 2000 or even 3000 players. and in this case paying customers will always have priority.

I'm not so sure about this. At first glance I thought it would be fine, but then again I'm most likely going to sub for PS2. But from a free player's view it would piss me off having to wait. Especially if the queue is bad you'd never into a big fight, which is what PS2 is aiming at. It could drive some new players away.

but wouldn´t it piss you off even more when you subscribed for the game and have to wait, while the freeplayers are having fun?
that would cause subscription cancelations

I support queue priority. However, I hope they are sane about servers and don't let say 10,000+ people register for a single server. What I'm imagining and hoping will happen is they lock the servers after 10000 registrations then they do statistics to let in a certain number of accounts over time onto the server so that such scenarios of everyone joining one server with massive queues never happens. I just don't want to join a server and get really good just to have it 100% full all the time and have to start from scratch on another server.
Hmm, wait are characters binded to server still? I'll have to tweet Higby about that.

It would, so that's why I'm not sure what is better. If they do give subscriptions priority, maybe make it so that if you're a free player and you've been in the queue for x minutes it puts you equal with the subscription players? That would be somewhere in between the two.

I kind of like this idea. Maybe they could do a "zipper" mix. 2 Paid, then 1 free as slots open up. Then both the premium and free "lines" will still move along.

I'm thinking some compromise would be a good idea. I could see new players getting really frustrated waiting forever in a queue to see a massive battle as they will see in advertising or hear about word of mouth.

You can't get players to actually want to pay to play if there's a possibility that they will still wait in queue or they never played the game yet because they have always been in queue.

Even if you pay $15 a month theres no guarantee there wont be a long queue of other people who paid.
And when I said after waiting x minutes, free players get their priority higher, I didnt mean like 5, I meant like 30 or something really bad. That way there's still good incentive to pay for a sub.

I vote for no servers Qs at all. But if you're talking about continental Qs, in that case must they have no "priority via cash". IMexclusiveO

Well, I guess it does make sense to allow only monthly subs to have queue priority. I was starting to think along the lines that if you at least spent $15 on the cash shop without a sub then you should get same queue priority. But I then thought, well, if you are going to spend $15 on the cash shop might as well sub to the game. However, I do say this thinking that you won't have to spend anything on the cash shop if subbed. So I don't know.
