View Full Version : Question about 4xx line
Goku, any idea when NVIDIA's resellers stop producing a certain line of cards? I understand the 6xx series is coming out soon, so the 4xx series is like 2 generations behind. I figure unless something amazing happens pricewise or PS2 for some reason doesn't scale with SLI, my best price/performance boost will be to get a second 460 GTX for ~$150, but I don't want to find that they are only available on EBAY or craiglist when I eventually go to look. (and yes, my mobo has 2x pcie 16 slots and my PSU is 750 w with 2 extra 6 pin connectors).
Thanks.

If you're going to SLI I'd just get one right now. They're super cheap on newegg ($140 ea.) I don't think they'll stop selling them anytime soon either.

The 460 has been out this whole time due to being in a pricing bracket that Nvidia hasn't brought anything in new with. I would expect it to stay on until a 600 series GPU is made to replace it. That maybe next week to even July. I haven't heard much about any release date replacement for that card yet is all. You probably won't see the price dip below $100 unless its after MIR though, but you should have plenty of time to get one before they clear off the shelves.

Well that's the thing, I don't want to buy too soon and then it turns out that PS2 has shit SLI scaling. Plus, the one you linked is 192 bit instead of 256 bit, those wouldn't work together, yeah? Both cards have to be 256 bit if the first one's memory is, right?
Also, do they have to be the same clock speed? I read somewhere they do, and somewhere that they will downclock to the slower card...
To be honest, I am not sure about the limitation of the ram/bus, but you shouldn't be pairing a 1GB/256-bit with a 768MB/192-bit anyway. You will hit ram bottlenecks and there is less Cuda cores on the 768MB version.
If you have to buy a slower/faster one you can just equalize the clocks yourself if need be with MSI Afterburner.
Wasn't planning on pairing a 1gb with a 768mb :P
anyhow, will probably get this down the line if I go this route: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130752
Hey, any way to find the clock speeds on this? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133402
Or would it be wise to avoid refurb'd and pay $30 more?
I'm wicked iffy about refurb stuff. I have no problem buying used from a tech forum, but who knows what that refurb unit went through. Especially with only a 90 day warranty. How much is the 460 going for that you have right now Bags? If its still available.

It was going for $150. I was leaning towards the new one regardless, but I also had a friend interested who brought the refurb to my attention.
Anyway, he went ahead and just got the $150 new one, so it doesn't matter any more.
Thanks.
