does it strike anyone as odd that we're in the last month of quarter 1 of 2003 and the no one even knows the release dat:mad: that's kinda weird I think. I'm guessing now its early quarter 2 of 2003

We'll they don't like to give dates unless they are absolutly sure, and Beta is too unpredictable.

We don't know, right now it is still End of Q1, which ends in 22 days so I can see why your skeptical.

they will tell us once we are into open beta. I saw two weeks in open before release, maybe more.

Meh, as long as i'm in open beta i don't mind it getting pushed back. :p

I'm thinking it will only be released around first week of next month.

If it goes gold by Friday, it will be released Q1, if not, it is unlikely.

Don't sweat it though, they will have enough people in beta soon enough.

As long as I get to play in any stage of beta that will hold me until release.

I think they will go gold at the same time as open is started. Mass produce the CDs, then on release day put out a patch to bring everybody up to the results of Open.

How long between Gold and release you think? 2 weeks between starting production and release sounds too soon between production time and transport. Figure a week for destribution, 2 weeks production of the initial shipment to stores... needs to go gold tomorrow. I doubt that will happen.

In other news SB went gold a couple days ago, so I can see it being a April first release :) Now I just need 3 paychecks to get new monitor, 2 for the graphics card, and to pay for them Im gonna have to empty my wallet. :(

Don't lose hope yet guys, they never said it's notgoing to make it on time. I have faith in the dev team that they'll get it out by the end of March.

How long exactly would it take to produce say 20,000 copys of the game? I have mine reserved so if the number is limited i will probably still get a copy on release day. I can see release as April 4th-10th.

We don't know if the beta is a low level beta, or a fine tuning beta, really, for all we know, it could be nearly finished...

I really don't see an conceiveable way for the game to hit the 31st date.

Doesn't it take a few days in itself to create the boxes/manuals/cds? They can only make the cds after the beta is finished and the game is finalized.

I personally prefer a better game later than an incomplete game now, however.

Agree. The boxes are most likely already made - indeed, since the advertising features the box, the art for it is finalized. They may not quite be done - needing the final requirements, for instance - but are near ready to go.

The manual might get finalized after the boxes. But it also is done before the game is. That's why they include read me files, for last minute changes.

The CDs are last to get done - work on testing them will happen right up to, and even after they go gold. It's unlikely, but not unheard of, to pull a golden master - that is, final - CD if a big enough problem is found.

I'm not sure what the turnaround time is from GM to in-store. Say it gets done late monday. Probably the CD gets to the production facility on Tuesday morning. Duplication can start right away, and the product can begin being stuffed into boxes right then.

But, it takes some time to generate the stock - and get that stock to stores in any kind of quantity. I'm not sure how long that part takes - a week or so?

I'd guess it will hit shelves a week or two after it goes gold.

i think i'm gonna come down with a bad case of iwannaplayplanetsidoconosis once the game is released, and won't be able to stay in school for more than three classes the day after release... cause if i go on during the weekday hours, bases will have skeletal defenses! i may be solely responsible for capping three or more bases if their guards are few enough...
