My assumption is that there has been no plans for an SDK / mods for this game. Has there been any word?

Your assumption is correct. Closest thing to a dev kit or mod you will see is the ability for outfits to have a "sandbox" to make their own tower or base.

Dude, this is an MMO...

YOu may see UI mods and stuff, but nothing that would need an SDK...

There have been threads asking if we'll have customizable UIs akin to WoWs where people can design their own layouts of information. Was talking to a person in IRC earlier that wanted that for adding time/timers for coordinating things.

Honestly I doubt such things are high on their priorities since they haven't mentioned anything even remotely close this. What we will have is a nice API for building out of game applications.

I imagine that the cash shop might have a hundred or so different UIs you could buy. To me this is a little moneymaker for soe.

They will provide app support though. Like in WoT, it is possible they'd allow you to customize markers and the UI.

If I were SOE though, I'd get mods on board to create custom AIs that can be dispensed through the e-store and create the sentiment of official (quality, safe and tested!) vs illegal mods. If it were possible to submit these to SOE to verify they're not cheats, then SOE could help players install them. This would be an excellent service IMO to both the community and modders alike.
