We'll find out in 24 hours....ish.

Hope whatever they are doing is worth it since everything is down for the day and night.

We will perform maintenance on Monday, April 23, 2012, that will affect all games, account management, and commerce transactions and forums beginning at 12:01AM Pacific* on 4/23/12. These services will be unavailable for approximately 24 hours.

This can only mean that the huge graphic that said "Beta has started" was too large for them to upload onto the website without taking it down first. It's the only logical conclusion.

I wouldn't get your hopes up.

They could easily be moving a server for anopther game to SD and it necessitates taking the whole infrastructure down for a period.

When they say 24 hours they're being pessimistic, it could be much less especially if they encounter no problems.

Just wait imho

I think it is more likely they are being optimistic ;)

Na, when you take down servers you estimate how long the work will take then double it and add a bit for luck and never give out an underestimate.

Of course, lightning might strike and the worst will happen, but I bet SoE doesn't really think it will take that long.

Ah.. If it was only the PS2 site, then I would be all like: A WILD BETA IS ABOUT TO APPEAR!!!

But since it is the whole SOE game forum system, it is probably a big change to their back end system. That could be PS2 related, but I don't see how it would be required in order for them to kick off the PS2 Beta.

IMO: Perhaps a sign we are getting closer, almost certainly not a sign we are there.

Edit: After random trolling I found the following post by a random non-SOE person, it makes sense though, so thought I would share:

I heard the new server farm SoE moved to a while back with the last 24 hour down time was too HOT. They were reported to have portable AC units and fans on the servers to keep them cool. Well this move is so the servers can be place in an area that has the proper AC and will fix the down time problems they have been having.

Sadly, this is often seen as a sign of good things to come in this industry. It's a unfortunate thing and I've seen this happen time and time again and rarely does it ever hide even the slightest of tidbits behind the curtains.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if this'll give us something but I'm doubtful at this very moment.

They have already announced that all SOE games and services will be down for 24 hours if I remember correctly.

I'm so freaking pathetic. This kind of crap gets my hope up for something cool even though I know it is just routine.

Probably primary reason is moving/splitting infrastructure fore the Pro7 stuff - they wouldn't take the financial stuff down otherwise (no company wants to stop accepting payments unless there's a really important reason for it).

But as a side effect, we may see a beta announcement soon.

But the Pro7 stuff will be based in Europe.

I think the point is that, presumably, Pro7 doesn't want beta to begin until they've set up whatever system they'll have going forward to divide Pro7 and SOE's first party infrastructures.

Because otherwise, you get everybody playing beta on SOE's servers, making friends, and then the game releases and nobody wants to switch to Pro7's servers and breaking off the connections they'd made in beta.

Also, you want to get Pro7 in on the patching and support process in beta, too.

So, yeah. Pro7 will be based in Europe, but you want to have them set up before you do beta at all.

Yeah, that's why they need to bring down the transaction servers so they can set it up in Europe.

Hmm, first of all they need to create the infrastructure in Europland. I haven't heard whether they've even chosen the location.

The rest is just a data export amd import.

Just wanted to pop in and help set expectations. Unfortunately this is just SOE wide network maintenance to improve our infrastructure. The website is down along with our forums, logins, etc...

So this week's theme is Maintenance week! They're putting up profiles of all the network and facility techs each day, but unfortunately we can't see them because the site is under maintenance.

Maybe while you're at it you can fix the bug in the PS2 website that crashes the website and causes my browser to freeze until I deal with it.

If I leave the PS2 website open in a tab, after about 4-5+ hours it goes HNNNNGGGG and I have to close it down :p

I am cautiously optimistic that we will at least have some new news (MAX, maybe?) when the site comes back up. We had no official news last week and today is the beginning of another week which will hopefully be full of news. I would be ecstatic if the big one is announced though ;)

Well, that was a week ago so we've already had the cool stuff, and tbh we did, thinks about the base tweets from TRay.

I'm expecting it to come out very VERY VERY soon!!!!!!

This confirms i've been lurking around here every day for more than 4 months waiting for the beta, then waiting some more to actually get in.

I need to go reconsider my life.
