Looks like the gal got a bit of a reworking.

..and who ever sprayed that primer coat should be fired, they got it all over the windows. :p

I'm liking the Osprey style engines. Me hopes to put in a lot of hours behind the cockpit of one of these bad boys.

My main interest is if those engines have guns mounted on them.

From the looks of it, they can flip 180 degrees after all.

I like the look of it, I'm kinda sad there's no vehicle cargo bay though.

Unless they only give the engines 90 degrees of range for forward and upward thrust only.

Wheels on the bottom are gone, replaced by jets. Looks like it's VTOL enabled now.

Where are the guns?

I like this simpler style though. Suits in a bit better with the futuristic theme, too.

Honestly though, as expected, it looks good. It'll be nice to see it with a faction paintjob! :)

Here is a comparison of the old and the new:

http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/9297/galhcopy.png

Some of the changes I noticed at first glance:

- Intake vents added on top of tail and on sides of undercarriage
- New engine pods that can pivot
- Slightly longer flatter wings, possibly with the ability to fold or pivot up or down
- Wheels replaced with rockets

You know, if they have time to Re-model, Re-UV and Re-texture. They could take the time to put in some working doors and Enter/exit animation support.

It's time for you to give up on that.

Enter/exit animations won't be in release. Period. No ifs/and/or/buts. They haven't ruled out their addition later in the game, but for now you have to deal with it and move on already.

is there any indication that this is a new gal model?

could also be an older version.

(and it´s never time to quit asking for vehicle enter animations. especially for the galaxy and sunderer)

Amazing. I love that they can take feedback and totally redo things to make them look cooler. These changes really give the vehicle that sleak look. Especially the engine in the back of the wings. Those look amazing.

I approve of the new version. Looks sleeker. I think also that the elevators may rotate now? They have what looks like a rotating disc at their base. That would make the whole thing look much better balanced when hovering.

If you look at the comparison shot I did on the previous page, that textured Galaxy is actually the Planetside: Next picture that we got a long while back. It's just that all of the more recent shots of the Galaxy have looked largely the same shape, so I figured it would still be a fair comparison.

This new model is sleeker and more refined. I never minded the wheels in the PS:Next version, but I do like that this version removes them.

Yeah that's possible. Here's a better shot of the old underside for comparison, with the retracted landing gear. Still looks kind of different to me though.

Are you planning on revisiting the Liberator? :) The changes to the Gal make it look pretty freaking spectacular, and I think the Liberator could use a little more TLC imho. Currently, I'm not confident the Liberator can even take to the air with that double-decker-bus-syndrome.

Haha I can't really say anything on what is/has/ or will be adjusted. :/ I usually just wait until Higby or Tramell shows off what i've been working on before I comment on it.

On that note, however, this redesign. Does anybody notice anything slightly... feminine about the design here?

Seeing how that's basically third-person view while flying it. I'm thinking the cockpit may not be right term for the pilot's seat on this baby. Maybe the internet has just turned me into a perv, I dunno.

I dunno. I think the engines should be bigger. Those small things don't look like they'd let a giant heap of metal like the Galaxy get off the ground. Kind of prefer the old version TBH.

Well, if/when you may/may not have done a pass on the Liberator I'm sure your new design is/will be pretty sweet based on the new Gal. If/when they decide to show us the new design that may/may not be coming down the line I may/may not be super thrilled.

P.S. I can't wait to see your redesign of the Liberator announced. :)

I should get back into 3d modeling. I aspire to be you Redrum.

Seems like the dev team is very on the ball about making sure all of the assets in the game are up to a certain standard.

Don't anybody worry about it taking away from potential vehicle entry animation time either. Modeling and texturing are almost completely different skill sets from rigging and animating. Think of how much progress the animations have made from the old trailer to the GDC footage, and how much progress there is still to go. We just don't ordinarily get to see the progress rate of animations in the still image screen shots we normally get.

Old one. You can compare the two designs. People linked both side by side earlier in this thread.

Same. I hate "useful" or "practical" designs. Much prefer cool designs even if they might be unrealistic.

Redrum check this out please. Having an aircraft that lands on its wings would be awesome. (http://www.planetside-universe.com/showthread.php?t=40617)

I think the wheels are gone for good, because they aren't needed. Higby's reaver in the GDC demo was VTOL, we saw that. And I seriously doubt that the galaxy will require a runway for landing, if it's supposed to be able to be landed in the wild and used as a forward base.

So I think all air vehicles will be VTOL. Has anybody seen an airstrip yet? :P I do hope that the flight mechanics are really that much better than PS1 (flying camera attack).

PS dev team of excellence. I know you are burning the candle at both ends. Your hard work is appreciated! But please please pretty please vehicle enter / exit animations.

Loving the new look. I never really liked the "old" design, it looked too unwieldy, too fat and too...fat.

Maybe this new one doesn't look a whole lot different, but from those few angles, it looks much sleeker, and more inline with the original Galaxy.

As already mentioned, would love to see a little revision on the Liberator. The Liberator from PS1 was such a beautiful aircraft. It had just the right proportions, not too tall (like the new lib) not too short, not too fat but not too thin not too long, but not too short. It was just gorgeous. This new Liberator just looks wrong.
