Earlier today TRay tweeted that there will be a fully playable demo of Planetside 2 at E3 2012! That means only a month away! Time for the beta soon!?

*Edit* just saw this was brought up already in the Beta thread =)

My theory of beta during/before e3 for a massive experience for E3 players could be true then.

I feel like I'm going to die of a heart attack when beta is anounced.

Dear SOE, for the safety of my own life. Please send me an early under the table invite very quietly, ease me into it so I don't die and can live on for however long I can survive without leaving a computer and playing Planetside 2 non-stop.

Unless they have a ton of computers set up there or a ton of people back at the studio playing, I don't see how they'll be able to provide a real picture of the scale of combat. Basically I'm just trying to justify to myself that they'll have beta started before E3 ;)

I would bet they will be doing both of the things above. Im sure most of SOE will be in game to provide a good demo along with a bunch of people at E3.

WHAT?! Heart attack yes, but an under the table quiet invite? That'd make the heart attack even worse! Not only is it a beta invite to PS2 but it's practically hand delivered from a PS dev instead of just the mass email that everyone else will get.

I'm going to E3 this year, so I'll probably bring my crappy digital camera and try to record gameplay (possibly focusing on recording specific things that haven't gotten a lot of footage yet).

With a Gauss Rifle, amirite?

I initially tried "Jackhammer," but it came out sounding way too creepy.

Nah, with my Vanguard. It's a lot less stealthy, but it gets the job done. As long as it's the Vanguard she sees when she turns around and not actually me she'll never know who it is.

E3 this year will DEFINITELY be the best E3 (for me) ever.

Agreed. My Twitter feed just quadrupled in the last hour since following :)

Still, if SOE peeps have time to Twitter and post as much on the forums as today, then some big milestone has been passed and we are that much closer to the promised land.

I fixed it, because I know that's why most people are going to E3. (Excluding Planetside 2 of course, that would be like cheating. Of course PS2 is at the top of the list)

Make sure you say hi!

I certainly will, I'm really looking forward to meeting the PS2 team at E3!

I was gonna say hi to you and TRay at the unofficial GDC mixer, but you'd already left before I realized that you were headed back to SD right after. I'd been chatting with the community team for most of the mixer though, and that was quite a pleasure!

By the way, do you know if the photo booth is going to be set up with PS2 themed images this year?

That's crazy awesome news. I wonder if "fully playable" implies that things like MAXes, female models, hacking, and engineering will be available?

It's a shame that I'll be away during this year's E3, but I can't wait to see what footage and announcements are released!

I can't complain too much, I go to comic-con every year and get to play a lot of games before anyone else does.

Well, fully playable doesn't neccessarily mean fully featured. Got to save some things to keep the hype machine flowing ;)

Yep exactly, that's what I was thinking too. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure we'll see some awesome stuff at E3, but I don't know if everything will be ready.

I certainly don't expect to see Esamir, and I don't think we've had conclusive proof of whether the screens we've seen so far have been on Indar, Amerish, or both.

It's funny how it always end up like this. Fans riling up themselves, hyped-up to a degree that is more often than not ever met with the actual content provided. I'd like to think that I've learned from past experiences to just let things "run its course", and I've been doing so quite well the last couple of years too. Though I gotta admit, PS2 just takes my lessons learnt and throw them out of the window like garbage.

I'm excited, and there is nothing I can do to prevent that any longer. Hopefully soon means soon and not Soon.

Edit: I must also mention though, if soon does indeed happens to be Soon I'll still be happy with some epic footage that I'm sure that E3 will generate. More than happy actually. :)

Same here. I'm "meh" about most games pre-release, and will get them if my friends have recommended them.

Then there are some titles that I actually look forward to playing; usually franchises that mean I know somethings going to be good and its safe to preorder (Skyrim, new Total War games etc).

I can't remember the last time I was actually excited about a new release, pre-this. And I am... :)

I don't think fully playable means necessarily that they are going to have computers set up for people to sit down and play it at the show. Hopping on a computer and playing the game for 10 minutes wouldn't come close to what the real experience will be like anyways. Sure for a PS fanatic it would be worth it but to a skeptic or someone just hearing about the game it might not be the best way to show it off.

I'm just hoping fully playable means we are close to BETA!

I'm so curious to what E3 will bring us ahhh

It will be equally important for them to be able to simply show off the game in a working state. The scope, the assets, the functionality. The gameplay is something that can't be replicated until the game is in full swing, don't ever expect that before beta. Doesn't mean the game's not going to be in a complete, fully playable state.

It does not work like that at all.

Go in there, shut your mouth, score High on PT tests and when You know without a shadow of a doubt it is the right thing to do. Do it.

Volunteer to lead PT, Volunteer to do/lead PM's on HMVS (hummers) and any other shit detail and most of all, keep a politically correct bearing at all time. That is the true way to fast rank in the US Army.

Good stuff CTheRain, congrats on joining. Trust me, you'll have a good time.

Duke is right about promotion speed not being based on the length of your contract. However, there are some other factors to consider. I just finished a 7-year contract in the Army a few months ago, so the regulations and promotion system is fairly fresh in my head.

The first few ranks in either the officer or enlisted route are "gimmes" and you'll get promoted automatically after a set amount of time. As long as you don't mess up in a significant way, you'll go from E-1 to E-4 within 1-2 years, which is a nice bump in pay, at least relative to the bottom of the enlisted pay scale.

Once you hit E-4 (Specialist/Corporal, depending on your MOS), the most significant thing that affects promotion speed is your MOS's current promotion point cutoff. This number fluctuates depending on how many other people are current doing the same job, and what ranks they're current at. So if there are a ton of people current at the rank you're trying to earn, it will be much harder to get there (and require more points). Therefore if you choose a job that's less popular (or more dangerous), the points cutoff will be lower and you'll generally get promoted faster than your peers.

As Duke said, PT score is a big part of how many promotion points you'll end up with, so keep hitting the gym whenever you can, and do sprints and endurance running often. The rest of it is stuff you'll pick up as you go, like extra college credits, various Army schools, weapons training, and stuff like that.

This post has already gone way beyond the TL;DR limit, so PM me if you need any more info or tips.

TL;DR - PM me for more info.
