I am having an issue with the identity of a particular VS weapon and would like your help:
This gun has been announced as the Pulsar according to a screenshot on PSU:

So what then is this weapon?

Which so clearly resembles the current PlanetSide Pulsar:

Perhaps one was an older model of the Pulsar that has since been improved upon? If that is the case then why are they both in this screenshot?

Thoughts?

Yeah I'm sort of confused too on something here.
Does customization involve the ability to actually change the mesh of a weapon? Because I'm fairly certain I've heard something about weapon silhouettes being too important and only the skin being customizable.

They redid the model as far as I understand. The second screenshot is very old unless I'm mistaken. I do know they have a Pulsar and a Phasar (I think thats the name) that looks somewhat similar.

It's still a Pulsar. It's an earlier model that most likely either was scrapped or is available as a "classic model" in the cash shop. I suppose it's possible it might also be used for a carbine varient or even an SMG tho.

Yea I wondered if it might be what they are using for the SMG

Around the 18:25 minute mark T_Ray (VS4LIFE!) talks about them updating the Pulsar visually. He said they still have the original assets and we might be able to purchase the Pulsar in the second pic at some point.

Notice the first gun is held by a Light Assault, and the second by a Heavy Assault. Perhaps one is the Pulsar and the other is the "Heavy" Pulsar.
Edit: Also, after double checking the second picture, the LA standing behind the HA seems to be holding the same model as the LA in the first picture.

My guess is that they have gone ahead with the idea of having the older version available as a cash shop customization item, with it's presence in that recent screenshot alongside the new model being an indication that they are currently using it as such. We have already seen them making prolific use of customizations in other screen shots, so it seems to be par for the course.
TRay already mentioned wanting to have the classic VS Rexo armor available in the cash shop as well. This may end up being a trend with a lot of weapons and armor.
I doubt it will apply to vehicles though, since that would drastically change their hit boxes.
I just want to customize all of my VS light armor to have the neck covered up. That and an orange tinted visor like in the first game.

Spekaing of vehicle skins... they do seem to be inspiered by BF3, and I'm just going to say this once... if I see a single forklift driving around... I can't be held responisble for my coming actions.

Yea, that is why I was confused about it being simply an older version of the gun, because both versions of the Pulsar are in that shot. The Heavy is armed the new one and the LA is armed the old one.

I sure hope they have the original pulsar available in the cash shop, I would definitely buy it. Love that look.

I still think the "Old" version is better. Way more aesthetically pleasing than that fat version we have now and it pays tribute to the original game. As others have said, I hope they put that version up on the Cash shop.

Based on the video Dullard posted, the new version was created to allow for more customization options (IE: Scopes, Underslung weapons, Stocks)

If the Pulsar was changed from the original model to the new one to facilitate customizations, does that mean that the original, if for sale, will be unable to make use of customizations?

Good point. IDK
Better be in the cash shop either way!
Or better yet, give it to PS1 Vets! :p
The old one looks a bit too "crude" and "fat". I really like the new one, much more "efficient" look.

As a counter point, I much prefer the old one.
The new one looks pretty bland and uninteresting. Like a cheap Nerf gun made out of plastic. The older one has a lot more character.

I think they are both pretty awesome.

I would imagine so. Maybe it would have some slightly different stats than the normal PS2 Pulsar, so it would be an uncustomizable sidegrade to the standard Pulsar.
I'd probably pay for it. May not always use it, since I like the look of the new one a lot as well and the classic model may be lacking a lot of abilities if it doesn't end up being customizable, but I'm sure I'd get a fair amount of use out of it.

I won't see much of them, so I don't care. I tend not to look at my feet much.

If the old one is available in the shop I'd definitely think of purchasing it to use even if the stats are different from the current redesigned model. Same with the old style VS rexo. Might not always wear it but I'd appreciate the ability to whip it out once in a while.
