Just wondering how many ppl like the mini map they have designed. Personally i'm not a fan of it.

In today's screenshots it shows the base outline well and I'm sure red dots will stand out clearly on the pale blue background. Hopefully we can choose different colours to suit different environments/daylight levels.

I like it.

I'd much rather have a full color map. And I'll bet if you give people the choice between the blue one or the full color one, the vast majority would pick the latter. So unless there's some good design reason to keep it monochrome...

I like this minimap, the one with color: http://www.planetside-universe.com/media/album/mp52rz6sp6/20120416_4f8c59b738296.jpg

I'm assuming (hoping) that is what the final minimap will look like. The blue one is too bland!

They already have a full color one implemented.

I'd prefer a greyscale or b&w one.

I prefer full color with distinct base designs and layouts like we had in PS1. Probably one of the best maps I've seen in a game.

I imagine the deluxe full color map will cost some money.

I see no reason to make it ugly, solid blue.

It needs to be slightly bigger but the current design isn't too bad.

However- it reminds me of Battlefailed 3's minimap. The design appearance isn't bad, but BF3's minimap zooms poorly and has other problems, such as the icons for people who need revived blots out the whole minimap. The design as I say is OK but they must be sure not to do it like BF3 in the bad ways.

I see no reason to make it ugly, solid blue.

They would if they were trying to make it match the rest of the GUI. I hope they don't though.

I'd also like a color minimap, although it's more important to me where my enemies are. As long as they are easily represented on the minimap, I'll be fine.

Could also use an adjustable zoom setting though.

I want the colored map we saw earlier. In the latest screenshots it looks horrible again.

As long as it shows walls, contours, player positions, my position, and where I'm facing.

It works for me.

I'd like a full colour mini-map with the current map as a translucent overlay. Style + usability.

I think the blue one is for Vanu and the TR/NC get the colored one.

I like both mini-maps personally. While one looks "prettier" than the other they both seem good. As long as I can see what I need to see that's all that matters. I don't need a super stylized mini-map that is going to do nothing other than distract me. Keep it simple and keep it functional.

Found this: Be careful which BF minimap you copy.

You got it backwards. Higher tech color minimap goes to VS.

TR get the monochrome.

NC get a 3x3 grid of vacuum tubes that light up based on the cardinal/intermediate direction of nearby enemies, with the center bulb showing ground zero.

I saw that in another thread which is why i decided to make this pole. After seeing it in many screenshots I can't help but think of BF3 & the way things are aligned slightly at an angle to create depth reminds of Crysis 2 UI. I like the 1942 the most since you can disticntly tell tanks apart from troops and looks like i'm looking at a map instead of a blue print.

Am I a fan of it, no. Will I tolerate it, yeah... but I really would prefer a color map.

It's really hard to comment on the clarity and functionalty without actually using it in game. I'll reserve my judgement for beta...

What i do love about it is how well it seems to represent an actual, in helmet HUD! If there is a little movement like the setup Crysis 2 has, then i'm definitely sold in that regard!

needs to have a compass rose not the idiotic bar, and needs to be in color. The BF3 one was terribad and this, like many things in ps2, is sadly copied from that.

If we have the Mini map - let it be similar to the old PS1 map and work in a similar way. Voted NO. Actually if there was no mini map it would add to the realism. If you do have the mini map, make some areas where the mini map will NOT work. Like wormholes in Eve Online where you can't see who is in system with you - or Special PVP areas on Planet Entropia, where the mini map is completly blank, or in a base when a virus was put in by a cloaker in PS1. When you don't know where the enemy is, or if there even is an enemy, you would be surprised at how immersive the game becomes. How fast the adrenaline {SP} flows. Of course even with the mini map it was always funny to see people jump when they were not expecting you in ps1.

And if you have No mini map, you give an added role to recon to find and detect them, which is really the job of recon anyhow. More things for that role to cert, giving them a true place in a team or squad for the value of their Intel.

The blue one reminds me of BF3's, and theirs is pathetic.

Full color with high detail on expand.

Pretty much what this man said. Right now I can make due with it but I do think there could easily be a better one.

Full color map pls. Otherwise I think it's great.

Personally I hope that there is a full color map that is basically a satellite view and a monochrome map that is the blue prints to a base. So if you've got the color one on you see everything outside, but you only see buildings as buildings and the monochrome one is used for taking over the actual base so you can get a better idea to the layout of whatever facility you're battling over.

Color based on empire controlled space.

Although I might not agree with the above statement, have they ruled out entirely that each empires UI might be different?

Makes sense to have three distinct empires be as distinct as possible.

Bit too small, not a fan of the blue monochrome, and I don't like how everything is 'realistically' slanted like its projected onto something. Its a GUI. We all know what it is. It doesn't need to be made less functional as a result of a failed attempt to RP it in by pretending a bad engineer designed the projection but was too incompetent to get it to project straight.

It's fine how it is, looks way better then a color map

Having it flat makes it more immersion breaking for me. Having chat text slanted tho would drive me crazy. Like in Nuclear Dawn. I love the HUD, absolutely hate the text being included.

Otherwise yeah I'd really like to have the mini zoomed out a little more and the size of the box increased a bit too, like 20% each.

I find it to be an annoying attempt to introduce immersion where none has ever been needed before. We survived countless games before where the stuff on the GUI wasn't stylishly slanted so it could look like a poorly engineered visor. All the sudden its become an OMG SO REAL fad with new FPSs(hilariously, even FPSs without the requisite technology to make such a projection possible).

I really hope its toggleable.

Coreldan

It's not immersive in the first place, so might as make it good.

As long as it performs its core functionality of telling me where I am and where other things are that are near me at a glance, I'm cool with it :)

I like the fact that it's meant to be images projected onto a visor display. That's cool and right up to date with what tech people are trying to achieve now with augmented reality.

In the vehicles, the maps and other data look to be off the visor and onto MFDs, so you get a sense of things being different depending on what you're riding in and what information it needs to convey.

Also, it opens it up for UI customization options too - basic free stuff like moving shit around, and maybe bought stuff like new themes. Obviously anything that actually gave you more info/advantage would need to be purchasable for in-game resources, same as anything else. Cash for cosmetics.

Customizable would be good.

Half of these features I wouldn't mind even if they were the default option, as long as there was a (free) option to change them to something better.

- projected mini map - /on/off/
- mini map style - /monochrome/color/

And all will be right with the world.

I like the mini-map. I'm sure that is going to be just fine. The BF map examples are awful.

I think we'll see higher resolution maps with greater detail made available to squad leaders.

i'd really prefer if it was colored to match the terrain. It is in the future should't be hard to imagine satellite tracking. It'd even be cooler if it got darker during the nights. GTA SA Detailled Radar Mod mini-map - YouTube good exp of colored detailed minimap
