Nanite Systems presents our modular outpost tower system. Great for respawns and vehicle creation. Built to last
I think it looks pretty neat. Just needs TR Banners :)

So even towers will have multiple capture points? Interesting.
Wonder what those little floating icons are for. I see 4 aircraft and 2 gun icons midway up and 2 unidentifiable ones at the ground level. The tower is modular, so maybe those are where you can switch up different attachment/gun emplacements.

I'm gonna say not spawned - I'm guessing the towers are in fixed locations because to have them just plonked down in the world could lead to all manner of weirdness. Either that or there are specific 'plots' in which a tower can go, rather than just freely placed anywhere.
I assume empires just get to upgrade them; presumably with resources - and when you capture one, it loses some or all of its upgrades...?

Those icons are clearly terminals. The gun ones are equip terms, the tank ones are vehicles terms, and the plane ones are air terms.
Actually, even though it could be considered "dumbed down" I really like that they have icons for seeing where terminals are. In PS1 a new player could easily get discouraged just trying to find where the heck to get their guns and wheels.

Upgradeable is what I'm hoping for. Fixed locations are okay, so long as empires can sink resources into strategically important ones to improve them in custom ways.

I see ya, but. Would have thought they'd apply the "trade-off" logic here too - you can have some, but nit all upgrades? If you go ani air, you lose anti vehicle? Etc?
Who gets to decide what goes on and where? Anyone with enough resource? Outfit leaders?

I hope we can turn those icons off in the options. They'd get annoying after a while. Didn't really care for them in Tribes Ascend tbh.
On the other hand, that tower looks AMAZING.

Very interested in the player spawned tower system...
Looks very different to their original designed tower with feet.
Perhaps the tower is alway there, and the modular parts are the player owned (additions). I.E. capd the tower, additional enemy modules dissapear and must be repurchased by the new owners using resources.

Why they said modular ?
Is these towers can be expanded ? Or is these tower can be build on the fly anywhere ? thats my question Dont care about the banner yet until beta ;)

The games is looking great. Its been awhile since I last looked at the site and to see the progress from day 1 pictures to now is simply stunning. SOE is doing a solid job. I can't wait to get in beta and explore everything.

Looking fantastic. Tower fights in PS2 are going to be a whole new ballgame.
Icons for things like spawn terminals is a good idea for new players, and will hopefully be one of many features that will keep population numbers high. Hopefully there will be a way to turn them off for players who don't need/want them though.

If these towers are indeed modular (upgradable) or deployable I hope they cost a lot of resources. It would suck if all of the towers in the game are upgraded/deployed everywhere on week 2 of the game's launch.

Wow great job!
A few thoughts:
I can forsee epic battles around these.
BFR's are back (when I saw this it made me giggle and no no alcohol involved)
At Christmas can we have it festooned in fairy lights?
Main thought is that the towers and bases are a 'real' upgrade to Planetside as opposed to 'other stuff' which I won't mention.

I think the most practical explanation for the modular design would be that they all start out as a basic outpost and are upgraded by the their controlling faction for resources. Perhaps the upgrade process is controlled by high ranking individuals, or maybe there's a voting system that the entire faction can take part in, and a timer by which the votes must be submitted before the upgrade goes through.

If I had designed it, I'd have a console that listed every upgrade you could do and a 'donate' button, that's democratic. If you resource-rich and really want something built, you can build it entirely out of your own funds, or if you're an outfit with less individual resources - you can just say - "hey, lets upgrade this tower, everyone good to donate x resources to upgrade y?"
Probably some weakness with that but it was a quick idea.
I don't think all towers will be fully upgraded within 2 weeks, someone will have thought of that early on, I'm betting everything is destructible - either when the base changes hands, or in real time. It would be kind of cool if you knew you were going to lose a tower so the last thing you did before getting the hell out was C4 the entire thing back to its most basic level, just to piss off the enemy :)

Speaking of which, I can't wait to have 100+ VS shooting off "fireworks" every time we cap a base again. It looked pretty awesome back in the original game, it's going to look amazing on Forgelight.

So a single tower is the same size as a PS facility, has 4 air terminals, 2 equipment terminals, 2 ground vehicle terminals and 3 capture points.

Don't forget that this "tower" is the size of a base in PS1. Bases are that much larger.
For all we know, there may be spawn points in some small bunkers and other structures, making them PS2's equivalent of PS1's towers.
So as long as they are well spaced and well thought out, I doubt this will be too large a change. The much larger bases will be a bigger change.
I kind of doubt that we'll have one of these towers sitting right near every base either. My guess is that structures such as these towers will be what controls some of those smaller hex clusters that aren't dominated by a base.

Nah... that's the whole point with the hex system. So battles are fought across all terrain, not just at towers and bases. What the actuall cappable point of those small, desolate hexes are... well, they said bunkers or small camps or whatever.. maybe just a hill or something. Point is, structures like that are not located on every hex.

Modular clearly means that towers are built out of multiple, transforming/nanite-reconfigurable Sunderers. Drive near a Tower foundation, and you get the option to deploy it as a Vehicle Pad, Air Pad, or Equipment Terminal...

In the latest dev interview, they confirmed that the more girls you invite to the party, the bigger the tower's smile gets. Interesting tidbit of info.

As far as faces go, this one is pretty obvious. But on many of the screen shots I have seen a lot of the buildings have faces.

I'm really disappointed that nobody has even commented (favorably or in horror) on my Voltron Sunderer Tower theory.

Have they touched on the idea of outfits owning/placing towers at all recently? That was something that REALLY got me excited when I first heard Higby talking about it.
I'm sure most of you have seen/read it before as it is quite old but for those that haven't:
Planetside 2 what we are moving towards is the idea of a sandbox game, so as an outfit I MIGHT be able to create a tower and actually place that where I actually want a tower to be
