View Full Version : Why Total Biscuit and not Hamma?

I fail to see any reason why Total Biscuit should be going to SOE and Hamma should not be going to SOE????
Except 1!!
Yea Hamma doesn't have 500,000 followers.
Thats a bit fucked up if you ask me.
If it wasn't for Hamma keeping this site alive for all this time. Then im sure a lot less people would know about Planetside 2.
And now TB is going to come and walk all over it.

I have no idea what this is about; however, if Total Biscuit is going to SOE to check out PS2 we're going to have a tidal wave of his eight year old followers in the game.
We get a lot from the devs here. We really couldn't ask for more.

Because Hamma doesn't have a huge following. And he doesn't report on gaming media like TB does.
Not saying Hamma isn't a cool guy who shouldn't get to hang out with the devs at SOE. I'm just saying that he isn't exactly the guy for that specific kind of purpose (reporting game media) that you're leaning towards.

:bang:
I have no words.
Edit: I swear you have this multiple personality thing going on Morto. One of you is a regular person, and the other is fatally dumb.
Do you think SOE is asking TB to visit out of the goodness of their hearts?

What would SOE get out of having Hamma visit? He's not a journalist and his audience is already well aware of Planetside 2 and it's development, direction and progress.

If you're serious about embracing new media and community, which we obviously are, there's not a lot of difference between getting popular youtube casters & bloggers into the studio to get an early look at the game than there is letting normal "press" in.

I was just remarking today that it's interesting that the PS2 hype train really hadn't shifted into high gear...and now, it seems it is about to!

I'm not against the TB move Higby. And I know why you guys are doing it, its a good move.
Its more the, why couldn't Hamma come and take a look. He's been carrying the PS name for far longer on the internet, than even SOE has.
Come on Higby. You know what this would of meant to Hamma. He's put a lot of effort into PS and PS2. Way more than TB or the press. He has a news page that gets all the PS attention, but still he has had no early look at the game.
I'm fairly new round here and even I can see it. And I'm quite surprised that more are not agreeing with me.
Maybe I am the only one who sees this.
And maybe I should just shut the fuck up.

I'm thinking you could be doing the equivalent of yelling at everyone for not buying him a present just before the surprise party is unveiled.
Now, maybe there isn't a party, but I'm fairly confident Hamma's gotten a few benefits from being in the position he's in.
Edit: And again, what does SOE get out of having Hamma visit? You seem to be viewing this more as a "thank you"/reward/treat than what it is, which is advertising.

Dude, Morto. Hamma gets devs coming to his / this site all the time. And as Higby mentioned, TB is practically press, so it's the same as when PC Gamer went down there. It's about getting the word out, not about a reward.
EDIT: Damn, I must be a slow typer.

Oh hey, Mr.Dyson.
TotalBiscuit's ability to reach out and spread the news of PS2 on the Internet is quite amazing. There's no one as "e-famous" in the Planetside 2 community to be honest.

Folks I have nothing against TB at all (apart for the fact he is a fat Geordie - I'm a Mackem BTW). This is not what this thread was about. The title was a bit shit.
And I know I know its over. I said my bit. Ill be quiet now.

Wow. You really hung it all out there.
This thread should never be locked. It should be mandatory to read the OP every time you click the post button. It will serve as a reminder to take the time to think about what you're going to say.

So, nobody remembers how active a member of the PS1 community TotalBiscut was? I believe he had more posts than anyone on the PS forums, and he wasn't spamming. He put together insanely detailed documents of game statistics like vehicle and weapon stats.

And I know I know its over.
Actually, the PS2 media storm is just about to start ! More coverage, more potential players, etc... Go TB !

I'm a bit surprised that The Yogscast isn't in on this as well, Simon and Lewis sounded very excited about it last time they mentioned it in their review of the teaser trailer.

There's a difference between getting some publicity out to a whole bunch of new people and rewarding a community that is already going to support your game. This is obviously the former.
It shouldn't be taken as an insult, but if it can be arranged and Hamma wanted to go, it would be nice of SOE to arrange a visit or a day at E3 or whatever.
Don't underestimate the fact that the team take the time to visit the forums, take questions on twitter and send us screenshots - that's very much something for the existing community that they don't really have to do.... And if they read stuff here then who is to say they don't take some things under consideration?
So one guy gets to SEE the game a bit early (we've had GDC stuff anyway, and E3 soon) - this community has probably helped SHAPE the game. It probably even helped it to get made.

In terms of who liked the original PlanetSide there are a lot more people singing it's praises in the various media than you might expect.
For example, PCGamer UK, as well as being one of the biggest gaming magazines in the UK, wrote long descriptive pieces of PlanetSide's epic battles (the salient part) back when it was out. I had basically not heard of PlanetSide before that but their description of a last minute ANT refuelling operation sounded so heroically all-out that it made me try it out. It was my first FPS too so they did a good job.
My point is that all these various journalists do great work, and while they may not have Hamma's stamina, they do also make recognisable contributions to the cause of strengthening PlanetSide's community.

I'm going to close this just because it has no good end. ;)
By the way those of you saying SOE gets nothing out of having a Community Fansite visit and preview a game.. you guys do realize that the large scale press covers what we do here right? ;)
Thanks for the support Morto. ;)
