As long as they sort out the animations and the generic character faces that look dead behind the eyes, I'm really loving how this game looks. The new towers and bases just look EPIC, I could imagine massive fights for them taking my breath away. The best thing is there seems to be lots that are off the ground which just adds a new dynamic.
I never thought I'd be saying this about an SOE game again but I'm really looking forward to Planetside 2, just hope they don't force changes on to the players that they don't want like all the last games I've played of theirs lol.
Just gotta get the yogscast involved for advertising really, crazy how much wide appeal they have right now.

The longer I wait the more certain I am that this game will be largely sub-par.

I don't think slow release time means it will be a bad game.

I think the game will be awesome. I dont think that the PCGamer Beta key (then no beta for a few months) was the best idea though. Noone likes to get excited and then have the thing they were excited for not show up.
Either way I plan on playing the hell outta it.

Eh, maybe they thought that beta would have been ready sooner. Either way, if it's not ready then I'd rather them take their time getting it all ready than dropping a beta that is buggy to the point that it's unplayable. I missed the boat on the PCGamer beta key, but i signed up for it on the official site on the first day it was possible. Hopefully I get lucky, I also plan on playing the living crap out of the game as soon as I'm able.

^ Every word is the same for me.
Good thing a buddy of mine bought 10 PCGamer Mags.

I don't mean that the longer they take the worse the game will be. I just mean that the more I'm exposed to various tidbits about the game the less enthusiastic I am, and in fact I feel like I've crossed the line down into expecting failure.
I suppose it's just a case of the longer you queue the more anxious you feel.
So far I'm rather disappointed in how the VS look. The armor needs to be brighter, shinier, have more plating to it, and have a greener darker teal, like in the original. That icky cyan is so gaudy.

Wait...what?
On subject, I too am really loving how the game looks. Graphics are quite appealing and I'm more and more excited by the day. Bring on Auraxis!

Interesting. I actually thought they designed some really convincing human faces. You'll see no complaints from me! They're hands-down some of the best in any MMO:

I think the armour looks great - it's like a mini crysis suit. However, I'm not so big a fan of their FS vehicles, as the scythe is just a little too crazy and the magrider just feels a bit weird now. This was particularly noticeable after seeing someone's picture on this forum, where they did a mockup of what it would look like if the main gun was turret mounted again instead of hull-mounted, and that look just felt more fitting for the Magrider.
Generally this game's graphics look very impressive. The recent screenshot of that tower at night was beautiful and there have been some great pictures of the environment too. The one where the camera was perched on top of a ridge overlooking a base in the morning light left the best impression on me so far.

Where did pick up that quote from Warchimp? Is that the original Warchimp from planetside or someone else? Haven't heard from him in a couple of years, used to be an Archangel back in the day.

I'm very happy with the look of the game so far, especially the 'time of day' effects and nighttime look of the place. Although the look of any game is secondary to the people i know who are playing it. And last i checked... everyone i know is going to at least try it.

Yeah they could be worse and will mostly have helmets on anyways, I just think they look dead behind the eyes and are rather generic. Though this depends on how in depth the character creation will be, if it's all sliders and loads of options then it explains it. However if it's picking from templates then I hope they give them facial animations like BF3 or TF2. Right now they look the same in every picture like they're dead behind the eyes.

But....they ARE dead behind the eyes.... Aren't they?
Seriously though, while things are improving in this respect - its still a big thing that animators have yet to fully understand. I believe the leading theories are that artists produce things that look perfect, wheras humans are ever so slightly imperfect, and artists produce movements that we all know and see (like pupils of the eyes, and blinking) but humans make many other tiny movements that are barely perceptible - you don't notice them happening, but you notice when they don't.

Probably. I picked it up from here at PSU back when PlanetSide 2 was still PlanetSide Next, but to be honest I never really knew him. I felt he summed up my level of interest in the new game better than anything else could ;) .

Mass Effect did pretty well at this, but apparently they had a team solely working on the eyes (don't quote me on that).
In terms of tiny movements, I agree, although I think it's things that are easily perceptible, but are too mundane for most people to think about them, that make character models seem lifeless. Things like the way people tend to look around a lot and actually move their eyebrows are generally missed, usually due to the fact that coding the AI that would have to control the contexts in which these happen would be too time-consuming for something most people won't ever know is not happening.
If you like having realistic character models, watch (or re-watch) the frostbite 2 trailers for Battlefield 3, as they have some brilliant dynamic stuff there. My favourite parts were the actually convincing recoil action, the context-sensitive shouts from the soldiers and the (more tangential) individual-wheel suspension animation for the tracked vehicles.

I don't think it's beyond animators - I've seen some convincing stuff in HD into sequences and the like, but do you really need that level of detail in a fast paced shooter?

We hope! Just forget about the decade long vapour-ware piece of shit that was Duke Nukem Forever
